i'm about to add a feature to my relay that keeps the history and i have already filed an issue on the nips repo to the same effect

let's do this, this is a change the protocol needs desperately

no more replaceable events, just a category where it sends the newest version, and an option to request the history

the simple fact is that deleting old events is inherently a racy business, who knows when that gets updated and who sees it and when they get the memo

better to show the new version but DON'T DELETE THE OLD VERSIONS

it's very easy because they all have different timestamps, at least, and at minimum, different IDs

6ksat is not expensive

i may have some more conversations with you in the future

skiff.com just gypped me and all the other annual subscribers, and my boss wants to try and organise a legit btc/ln based paid fork of skiff's codebase

to explain - i have a muscle cramping disorder for about 3 or 4 years now, never had this before

i read about things that cause it and i see that rheumatoid arthritis is one cause

this is a general autoimmune disease that my sister suffers from, one that never really affected me much

i have had arthritic pain on and off over the years but i found it was associated with several other things

my sister is obsessively vegan, and i think that contributes to part of the problem, and actually, i think she would be receptive to the idea of adding especially goat, milk to her diet

i am not vegan, and i personally don't like meat very much either, but i love milk, and this has done me a big service recently

yohimbe bark, legit actual yohimbe bark, definitely seems to be helping

the tea i got has damiana and other shit in it, but so long as it has legit yohimbe bark it's doing the job

and it seems that it is doing the job, and my suspicion that this cramping disorder is caused by amyloid plaques on motor neurons is being vindicated

will see in the next few days how much difference this makes but i feel already so much more human...

experimental shit. stick to ubuntu 20, and if you use amd, kernel 5

this is hard won advice, experiment at your own peril, and i'm an experimentoor, so i did the hard yards, not my problem if you try, go fuck yourself

i run ubuntu 20.04

it's the best for desktop

maybe for servers on a laptop i run manjaro

there's a few quirks with ssh and git and i forget what else but

don't fuck with kernel 6 if you have AMD graphics, it's a fucking minefield

kernel 5 is solid, fuck them all

i keep to gnome but 4 is shite... and i've discovered that ubuntu 20 lets me stay on a decent version that supports my preferred gtk3 themes and apps

ubuntu 20 is the thing... don't change from it until 2025, when it stops being LTS

everything else is unstable, especially for AMD

i run ubuntu on my daily driver but i have been running arch or manjaro for some time

the most critical system is the kernel, the rest doesn't matter nearly as much

ubuntu has been bad, for it's whole history, at keeping the kernel stable, i have it disabled as an update to stop it stomping on my setup

it matters even more now with amd support, kernel 6 is shockingly patchy for amd GPU/APU support, i am just running kernel 5 for now, and refuse to move until there is a solid security reason to

#nostr is the best

i'm not only having conversations with people, i'm interacting with the development of the protocol

as a programmer this is optimal

i shouldn't have to be hired by some company to have an impact on chat, blogging and forum protocols, this is unprecedented, you all don't realise how groundbreaking this is

or maybe you do... but as a dev, it's something else

i can't explain why i feel different about FLAC vs MP3/AAC

but it feels softer, smoother and more faithful

i have blue eyes

lack of melanin in the eye genetics doesn't impact any other part of the genome, please explain

(technically it's a defect like albinism and lactose tolerance)

oh i see your update now, back to the old

no, i only use what i pay for, it's a moral thing with me

the replaceable events thing in my current project the implementation is nasty and imo, racy (as in, changes can fail to propagate properly) because it isn't built as a "newest version" instead of "replace when changed" model

i'm gonna go hard on this one, really grateful to you to trigger me to think about it and realise the model that exists is wrong

keep all versions, return teh newest unless you request old...

much better model than "replaceable" because that is such a temporally nebulous concept

it didn't restore your profile very well, i can't see it on my relays currently (nostr.wine nostr.land)

yes, this "replaceable events" thing in the protocol needs some work IMO

the hamster wheels will tick over duly thinking about this because i'm not happy with this part of the protocol, i think that "replaceable" should mean that the old versions are retained and there needs to be a way to request old versions

yeah, funny thing... in the code i work from it's horribly written, i've fixed most of it but finding a solution for this versioning issue would be cool af

i'm paying for my nostr.wine and nostr.land relays, i dumped a 10ksat on nostr:nprofile1qyt8wumn8ghj7etyv4hzumn0wd68ytnvv9hxgtcpzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumt0wd68ytnsw43z7qgwwaehxw309ahx7uewd3hkctcqyqewrqnkx4zsaweutf739s0cu7et29zrntqs5elw70vlm8zudr3y2tpctmc for his demo of damus on everything, least i could do... i pay for my nostr.build hosting, wish it was better integrated but i try to use it as much as possible

i'm in the midst of planning a possible business collab toolset, email/files/docs/calendar with nostr IM integration, i think it will work, and thanks to alby, bless them but i wish there was more competition, but it will come, this is a really good option for especially crypto natives, anyone who understands bitcoin, shitcoiner or no... i'm working with a good team and i think we are going to bring some noise to the fiat party pretty soon
