In July last year I recorded a podcast with #[0] on Bitcoin Rapid-fire where I detailed my journey into homesteading. Check it out if you want to hear more about our approach to permaculture and learn what sorts of systems we have going here.
Haven't been saving them but I know I should be. We have plenty of lamb liver so we let the dog eat all the rabbits organs. Liver and hearts are definitely big enough to be worth taking and saving up a bunch.
That's why we have chickens for eggs and lamb for meat too. Soon we will stock our pond with bluegill and bass and well. We get some venison during the winter too. We just found the rabbits to be a better fit for our style than broilers. We have lots of weeds to pull and plants to prune. Much better turning it into meat rather than compost. The feeding them the extra cannabis we grow is an added bonus.
These rabbits are not gamey like wild ones because we control their diet. One of the cool things about feeding them cannabis is that the CBD gets stored in their fat so when we eat then we also get some CBD too.
Started with chickens in 2018. At first it was uncomfortable slaughtering because I wasn't sure if I would do it well and cause the animal to suffer. Now that I have some experience it feels like harvesting anything else. Just another step in the process of growing food. Definitely the lest enjoyable part of the process though.

First rabbit harvest of the season in the rabbit colony cannabis garden. A small one at just over two and a half pounds. Rabbits are quick and easy to process and they turn just about any vegetation into meat. Much easier to be self sufficient with than broiler chickens in my opinion.

We save the pelts of these silver fox rabbits, waiting to find time to make something with them. The fur is so soft and delicate. We have traded them with other homesteaders in the past but for now we store them up in the freezer until we need space. Then we pickle them to preserve them and store them in a big bin.

The dog gets the heads and guts. Such a nutritious meal and saves us on dog food too. She has also developed a taste for rabbit which is helpful because now she really likes hunting wild rabbits. This protects our gardens and fruit trees from the little nibblers.

Had a great time at the Grand Rapids Bitcoin Meetup on Wednesday. I left with some broccoli and cauliflower starts, a lemon tree seedling, moonshine, a hardware wallet, and a copy of Bitcoin Magazine (with a picture of my yurt in it!). I sold some maple syrup, seeds, and a couple pawpaw trees. Saw someone else selling an S9. Great discussion was had and I loved hearing about all the awesome projects people are working on like wallets, chain analytics toolkits, node tinkering and more. Michigan has such a vibrant and dedicated Bitcoin culture. If your close by and not attending the meetups you're missing out! #bitcoin #bitcoinmeetup #circulareconomy #v4v #value4value #localfood #bitcoinculture #grownostr

It is greatly underestimated the power and impact of spending sats. When one spends sats the most true economic signal is transmitted. When a community of people start spending sats together a high volume of truth is emitted amongst their surroundings facilitating prosperity. Spend your sats and earn them back. Build your reputation and maintain it. Express value and receive it. This is the way.

The Katahdin hair sheep are shedding their Winter hair coat and the are looking for back scratchers. Nibbling on the fresh growth of the autumn olive and sapling trees at the same time rubbing and scratching that extra hair off for the summer. #permaculture #permies #homesteading #grownostr #regenag #regenerativeagriculture #rotationalgrazing #pasturemanagement #localfood #sheep #lamb
Love the format of this note. Will be cool to see them end result and will be especially helpful for those who find it after the experiment is complete. Keep it up!
Leftovers for dinner tonight! I'm hungry already.

You could start off with a pair of feeder ram lambs to see how it works out. The trick like you mentioned would be finding them I guess. Mid July is when our ram lambs are weaned and looking to sell as feeders.

Is there a way to preview a note before posting? Sometimes I get my images out of order or I don't know where the show more cutoff will be.

The Katahdin hair sheep are getting very close to having their lambs. So close the practically have to waddle into the next paddock. They will be in this paddock for one day because it's smaller with a third of it in the woods. Not much to eat on the trees and shrubs yet. I topped off their salt and mineral in these diy PVC feeders. They work well enough, gotta keep an eye on them though. Sometimes the salt gets stuck in the pipe and needs a whack to continue flowing down. #permaculture #permies #homesteading #grownostr #regenag #regenerativeagriculture #rotationalgrazing #pasturemanagement #localfood #sheep #lamb

The Katahdin hair sheep are headed towards the camera. There are a few paddocks behind me which aren't ready to graze but there's still a few left in this pasture otherwise. I need to slow them down a bit and let them graze these next few paddocks a little longer without overgrazing. We are trying to time it so the sheep are grazing the paddocks closest to our handling system while they have their lambs. That way if we need to assist in some way we have easy access to all our equipment and supplies. #permaculture #permies #homesteading #grownostr #regenag #regenerativeagriculture #rotationalgrazing #pasturemanagement #localfood #sheep #lamb
Agree on the cardboard. Just don't want the seed batch to die due to trying something I'm unfamiliar with. Will definitely be adding all sort of biomass from around the homestead once it's established.
I guess a pound? That's probably the most common order, right? I won't be ready until June. Gotta get through spring and then I'll have time to get everything set up.

Maple sugaring supplies are all packed up till next season. Lots of downsides to using buckets, one being where to store them. But they are accessible and useful if sugar making doesn't work out. Will probably expand with bags moving forward.

Ended up with about 4 gallons surplus syrup to sell and am nearly sold out already. Thanks to the plebs at the Michigan Bitcoin meetups for the support! Looks like I have to double the number of taps yet again next season.

Got a little discouraged when I let my reverse osmosis system freeze and it was destroyed. It was a good excuse to upgrade to a larger system though. This new filter has 4x more capacity than the previous system and will handle all the possible potential sap flow capacity here on the homestead as more trees get large enough to tap. All in all another successful sugaring season but not without it's failures and setbacks.
