They are making progress! I'm looking forward to seeing if the worms can eat it faster than the comfrey breaks down.
I hope I can give it a try. My fear is that it might be a disappointing yeild for all that time waiting to save them up. They will get eaten in a couple days I'm sure.
Yum! I hope you share a photo next time you make it! Definitely want to imagine eating that.
Last one we made tacos, this one who knows... It's going to be cold and rainy this week so maybe ramen sounds good.
Second rabbit of the season is ready for some seasoning! A little closer to what we're looking for at 3lb.

Cut the belly out to save up a bunch and make jerky with a Bitcoin mining dehydrator. Probably won't have enough for a batch until the end of summer. Low time preference jerky.

This paddock and one more are the only two good ones left in this pasture. They will be done with these two paddocks in about 6 days but I need about 10 more days in this pasture so that the sheep start having their lambs close to our handling system. I skipped a few paddocks because the grass didn't look ready up here. Maybe by the time they graze through these two, the paddocks I skipped will be ready and I can circle back. If not, I will graze the next pasture in reverse of the normal grazing pattern. Honestly, by the look of these sheep they could start having lambs tomorrow and I will have to throw all my plans out the window. #permaculture #permies #homesteading #grownostr #regenag #regenerativeagriculture #rotationalgrazing #pasturemanagement #localfood #sheep #lamb

This is the fastest way to secure the mobile sheep shelter to the tractor when moving it to the next paddock. Pull the loop of the rope though draw bar on the tractor then drop a chain through the loop behind it. I can hook it up and unhook with one hand! #permaculture #permies #homesteading #grownostr #regenag #regenerativeagriculture #rotationalgrazing #pasturemanagement #localfood #sheep #lamb

Got a good deal on a 300w panel to add to the solar array at the yurt. Now on a sunny day the system can produce over 1200w which means I can plug in a second hashboard on the m29 miner and double the hashrate. It's been mostly cloudy with some sun peeking through for a few hours here and there since I installed the new panel. I have to say, I can't wait for a sunny day to see how the system does at double the power; double the hashrate while using the airflow and heat to evaporate the liquids in the composting toilet collection tank at the outhouse. For now, with the extra wattage, the batteries are able to stay charged even with guests using the power for several days in a row. Previously, it was likely that the low voltage disconnect tripped at some point during their stay.

I dream of doing this. One big reason is to reduce the number of 90° turns the pipes have to make. The structure of the water is maintained when the turns in the pipes are more gradual and sweeping.
Yes, screen is stapled.
No plans, I just made it work with the materials I had and based the dimensions roughly on this:
Basically build a box roughly that size, come up with some way to make a door on it that has ability to control airflow, then come up with some trays. Cut a hole so the fan of the miner fits in there.
If you have a more powerful miner then you can make a bigger box and add more trays.

Currently processing elderberry with a S9 set to 980w. I designed the dimensions of the box to be similar popular 1000w consumer dehydrators since that's the wattage at which the S9 is most efficient.

The door of the dehydrator simply presses into the front and I can control the vent gap for more or less airflow which also helps to control the temperature.

Highest temperatures I've been able to measure are around 135°f, which I read is good for fruit. I can get temps as low as 90°f with higher fan speeds and larger vent opening.

I cut a hole in the back of the box so the exhaust fan of the S9 fits snug. That way I can easily remove it and use for a different heating application when I need to.

The energy efficiency of this contraption knocks the socks off any other consumer dehydrator available and it cost next to nothing to build. All I had to buy was the screen for the trays for around $10. I had everything else laying around already.

I can fit a gallon of elderberry or 2 gallons of grapes per load with the 10 trays. Each bach of elderberry takes about 24hr to complete and the raisins take at least a couple days. So far the elderberry and grapes are all I've had a chance to try. Next up is garlic to make garlic powder. #plebminer #bitcoin #bitcoinmining #permaculture #permies #grownostr #homesteading #doublespendenergy #dehydrator #heatreuse
Top left of this one is great!
Cool! The 2 rows of chestnut are planted east/west with ~25ft spacing and ~40ft between rows. I've got some black locust in pots. I've got black alder seedlings sprouting soon hopefully maybe those would work similarly. How close do you think I should plant the locust? Should I just put one halfway in between each chestnut?
8 but I have one more in a pot too that I want to plant in a different area as an experiment. Haven't decided where yet.

The Katahdin hair sheep are shedding their Winter hair coat and the are looking for back scratchers. Nibbling on the fresh growth of the autumn olive and sapling trees at the same time rubbing and scratching that extra hair off for the summer. #permaculture #permies #homesteading #grownostr #regenag #regenerativeagriculture #rotationalgrazing #pasturemanagement #localfood #sheep #lamb

Now I have fomo! Gotta get to the woods pronto. Just rained here today so conditions are perfect. I would love to try dehydrating some morels with my bitcoin mining dehydrator. #permaculture #permies #homesteading #grownostr #foraging #mushroomhunting #morels
The american chestnut was once a dominant species in North American forests. As a tree with excellent timber and calorie dense nut crop it is extremely valuable. Unfortunately it has been mostly wiped out by a persistent blight. Great efforts are being made to find a tree with blight resistant genetics so the american chestnut can once again thrive.

The seedling chestnuts planted last winter are all alive and growing. Now to see if they can handle the summer heat and avoid getting chewed on by any critters.

I took advantage of some warm December weather to plant all the seedling chestnuts I sprouted a few years prior from Akiva Silver at Twisted Tree Farm. I put cages around them to prevent deer browse.
I chose to plant them near where I found a mature wild american chestnut growing on the property (very rare) which has sandy soil. I used swales as a guiding pattern for planting which will also help to passively harvest water and nutrients from our sheep as the graze amongst them.

I only have been able to find a couple handfuls of nuts from the american chestnut tree because I think it's lacking pollination due to so few chestnut trees nearby. Closest ones I know of are a couple miles away.

Hopefully these seedling chestnuts will eventually help pollinate the mature american and I can harvest more nuts to grow more trees with the american chestnut genetics. Long live the american chestnut!

What's your setup for direct DC power for the miners? Looking into doing this. Heard it's the most efficient way.
