Homesteading, Permaculture, Bitcoin, Freedom. All one or all none!

Turns out I was wrong, it is infact these strange transactions paying high fees.

What is a PLC miner?

What is the mechanism to push fees higher?

Is it because the hash rate is so centralized that ant pool can comfortably bet that they will mine these transactions basically paying themselves and forcing everyone to pay higher fees?

One of the pillars or forcing mechanisms for cultural development is place, location or proximity. Nostr is a free market digital place, which ultimately creates a resilient place for cultural development.

Yeah, I guess I really only ship inside USA. I don't like dealing with international shipping. One day, with Bitcoin, the world will be connected in a much more frictionless way.

I got lazy, all of it is grown here on the homestead so I don't mind a little waste at the end. Raspberry leaf alone is good too, I just like the flavor of the mullien. The raspberry leaf can be a little heavy if I chain smoke.

Cool, I'll send you some of it all. The cannabis will keep in the freezer for years.

Alpine strawberry would be awesome!

How is the home grown tobacco? I've heard it's much different than anything that can be found at the corner store smoke shop. Was it pretty easy to grow?

I like to pick the mullien before it starts growing the flower stalk, just pull the whole plant roots and all. Hand it to dry for a couple weeks. I strip the fluffy leaf away from the stiff ribs. Makes it easier to crumble everything up together by hand.

Sure! Do you want comfrey, elderberry, or horseradish? I also have cannabis seed, hazelnut and pawpaw.

Smoking a Sunset Jammer

The days are short as winter approaches, and I've been taking a sunset walk and enjoying a mullien, raspberry leaf, cannabis spliffs before I clean up the workshop for the day. The combination of the flavor of the mullien and the smooth even burn of the raspberry leaf make for a great smoke with enough room for just enough cannabis to get me where I want to be.

The cycles are about the same length and it's probably the same as the medium heat setting on the dryer I have.

I haven't figured out a way to measure how much power the dryer was using on each cycle. It seemed like the heating element would turn on and off while the dryer was running. I don't have a meter that can record the total power usage for the cycle, so maybe I could stand at my clamp meter for 40min taking notes while its running to get a rough idea. My best guess is that the miner is pretty much on par with the power usage of the dryer.

There hasn't been a huge spike in the overall monthly power usage since I started using it and it was running a few hours a day in the summer time at least. If the miner was using more or less power than the dryer I didn't notice it in the power bill.

I've not been on their podcast. I would be happy to talk with them though!

The way I understand the inscriptions, they are expensive transactions so they aren't competing for immediate block space, instead the are setting the floor for the fee rate. I'm not sure what is causing the fees to be so high right now but I would be shocked if the inscription transactions were paying fees high enough to get priority in the mempool.

Thankfully, anyone can mine and benefit from high fees. I'm collecting extra mining revenue right now which will help subsidize fees on future payments I make.

Bitcoin Mining Clothes Dryer

Here at the homestead we host guests at our house as well as a 20ft yurt so one of the largest power usages is the electric clothes dryer. In the busy season, the dryer is usually running for several hours a day. It made a lot of sense to use a Bitcoin miner for the heat instead of the heating element in the dryer.

I tried to use what I already had as much as possible to connect the miner to the dryer, so for less than $100 I was able to make it work. Basically needed a 20a 220v breaker and 220v outlet plus some ductwork. I simply cut a hole in the heating duct in the back of the dryer and attached a 6in duct coupling to it. If I need to I can cap off the coupling and continue to use the dryer as normal. Basically if the Bitcoin miner breaks down I won't be stranded without a dryer.

To operate, I set the dryer to timed dry, set the heat to air dry, and turn on the miner. After using it for a dozen loads or so it definitely works well. Next I will be working on how to reduce the noise from the miner fans but to start I wanted to make sure it was capable of drying laundry first. Feels good to get sats back for one one of the largest power usages on the homestead!

With fees being so high, I'm finding myself looking forward to doing laundry. The dryer is getting a 82 percent rebate in sats right now. Drying laundry with this machine has never been cheaper on on the homestead!
