Permaculture and Psychology: Well-being is Capital

Announcing the second monthly permaculture nest! Wednesday February 7th at 8pm eastern time on nostr nests.
Tune in and chill out while I talk with Liv (the homesteading bitcoin psychologist) and nostr:npub1n04sq6fgwp38wehyhqfngk3q90y658m5qtk8z5t3vrvkzwmu2q2sc0qlga (a bitcoining permie of high craftsmanship) about psychology as seen through the lens of permaculture and how it relates to well-being.
To me well-being is vital capital, the capital accrued when time is spent improving and maintaining physical and mental health. Vital capital is a form of capital often discounted when building resilience in one's wealth. However, without well-being many other forms of capital cease to have value.
What are some ways living a life harmoniously with nature builds vital capital and how does psychology play a roll in that?
Join us as we explore this deep and thought provoking topic.
Zaps are split with the nostr:npub1luwkteu2eq2e97n7hw0tlj03vvgguzl0srm3vkxz2jt75wpaf9tspt9cqr for the badass flier design. Thanks for the time and effort!!

Oohwee!! That looks nice!! I have my fingers crossed, it's shipped for the Permaculture Psychology discussion on February 7th.
I can agree on the difference in spam... Not to mention every other tweet seems like an add now. Maybe the experience is better if you kyc and pay. However here, I get almost zero spam, no adds, and much better engagement. Not to mention, I get mad props with zaps.
nostr:npub1tr4dstaptd2sp98h7hlysp8qle6mw7wmauhfkgz3rmxdd8ndprusnw2y5g your overall mission sounds different than mine, trying to find those who seek better privacy and lead the way. I'm trying to find all the Bitcoiners and create a unified and resilient culture around Bitcoin. Nostr is definitely the place to be investing time in building cultural capital because it is free and open. A true commons for free exchange of information.
Yeah totally, normally I would have these bales up on pallets. They won't be here long. The hay for the horses over the summer is what ends up sitting getting moldy.
Trying out new hay tarps to preserve the hay without storage in a building.

Thanks to nostr:npub1szlawrnh4kzvq9yfuegvpz0ws8h5zywea4n2d4zf3kdd3g9tenwqnqn3du for the tip on using pallet covers as hay tarps for 4x4 round bales. Putting this new hay taping method to the test. In the past, we've used large used billboard tarps to cover many bales of hay at once all stacked together. Managing the large tarps proved to be too difficult to maintain its longevity and we found ourselves replacing them ever couple years. With plenty of moldy hay in the meantime as the tarp degraded. I'm now trying to cover each individual bale of hay with a $20 pallet tarp. It's perfectly sized to fit over a 4x4 round bale of hay. The idea is that we will tarp individual bales with the pallet covers then tarp over the whole group of bales with the degraded billboard tarp to better protect the pallet cover tarps. Then when we use a bale we can easily fold up and properly store the pallet covers. Hopefully this method ends up lasting until we finally build a proper barn for hay storage.

What is it that you don't love?
I find it hard to search for old notes and tag users in notes.
I feel like I miss a lot of stuff because notes are boosted enough but at the same time, notes are often boosted in clusters close to the time of publishing rather than spread out.
It's almost overwhelming all the different potential with all the clients. I have pretty much stuck with just amethyst for now so maybe there are solutions to my problems that just aren't available in amethyst.
Amazing that you were able to collect so many bills with the stamp on it. Must be a lot of Bitcoiners in your local economy!!
Here's the chestnut tree thread from the homestead in 2023. Click back through all the chestnut goings on from the homestead last year.
Recently shared this chestnut tree thread with some folks and thought the nostriches might like to puruse it too.
This article should give you a good idea of size and design. We only keep 3 breeding does and one buck in our colony. Our colony is much larger than the example in the article, though I'm not exactly sure how large.

There is 1ft of chicken wire on the ground all the way around the inside of the fence which makes is difficult to dig out. That, and the large amount of space plus the mound for burrows means they don't try to escape.
Typically they would all be harvested right now and we wouldn't start harvesting again until May.
The rabbits in the rabbit colony cannabis garden are thriving.
https://v.nostr.build/KaWv.mp4
It seems that everything project on the homestead is providing a huge meal for the rabbits in the cannabis garden lately.

We have been experimenting with waiting longer to harvest. Before we were worried about over population but the cannabis garden is so large it can support more rabbits than we thought. However, with winter coming, it's going to be time to harvest all that are good size soon.

Since we have been feeding them so much, there hasn't been as much fighting amongst the males. Maybe they are fighting less because they have made more burrows which are more well spread out in the colony too. This system has performed very well for us this year so far. I can't wait to tally up the total amount of cannabis and rabbits meat it produced.

A rabbit harvest is way overdue
https://v.nostr.build/6MWR.mp4
We have way too many rabbits that we've been feeding only because we haven't prioritized harvesting them. We usually catch them as part of the morning chores but with the winter chores it has fallen out of routine. We just ate three from the crock pot, have one resting in the fridge and one in a cage that I'll process tomorrow. I hope to have the rest harvested over the next week or so. We are still undecided whether to get new breeding stock in the spring or keep what we have. We are are looking for slightly larger rabbits.

Elderberry cuttings have now been added to the apothecary store, 8 cuttings for $29.99 free shipping. Revhodl.com

Adams elderberry is a vigorous and prolific variety. It produces flowers and ripening berry clusters successively throughout the summer. Make powerful medicine and alcohol from the berries, and use the flowers to make bubbly summer sodas or desert fritters. The enchanting aroma from the flowers will fill the air while in bloom, an underappreciated benefit of the plant. Stack functions by planting as a privacy hedge while harvesting the yields. Elderberry is one of the easiest plants to root from cuttings so it's a great plant for starting to learn propagation. Each order includes 8 unrooted cuttings, rooting instructions, and free shipping for $29.99 (one day sats will be the unit of account).

I've been in need of a similar solution. I haven't had time to work on it but the rails feature on Lincoin pool might enable that functionality.
From my experience, people do end up finding the meetup through meetup. Com... If you start a meetup and get some regulars then they will inevitably bring locals they know who are interested too. No of the meetup groups are using orange pill all that I'm aware of but I've heard that's a good way to find some initial attendees. Good to have a diversity of Bitcoiners with different expertise. Node runners, miners, privacy ect
What are you working on with the home mining?
Probably because he's a shitcoiner.
No, it's decent waterproof vinyl plank flooring. It's been so long but I think I was taking weight into consideration. The walls are 3/8 plywood and the counter tops are thin solid surface. So I think I was thinking I could save weight on the floor by using vinyl instead of wood.
It's osb sub floor. Haven't put the finished floor in yet.
I'm really liking the vibe of all the contrasting wood tones in the tiny house.

Pine, cherry, oak, ash... A little bit of everything has made its way into this tiny house but the hodgepodge is adding up to something that feels good and unique. I can see the finish line in this project now and the excitement is brewing.
