I like the idea, but as more sites use it it’s going to a duplicate content nightmare.
I’ve been using the beta for a few weeks and haven’t noticed much of a difference. What’s bugging you?
Yeah, I think many countries would consider ML generated CSAM to be the same thing as an actual picture or video taken of a sexualized child.
UK for example: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-65932372
And Australia it can be text, not just images or video: https://www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=be791d54-9165-4233-b55a-4b9dad5d178d
The risk for most relay operators is that people will using nostr for the discovery / connection between people who then go in to other apps / servers to actually exchange the content. Apparently it’s a kind of whackamole with different hashtags people search for this kind of content.
My response when this topic came up on XBiz.net…
Why? No children are harmed... It's the same reason anime with child-like characters is legal most places.
I could understand a mandatory disclaimer that no children where involved in the creation of the content, but more than that is just censorship. Our (porn) industry exists because the law says you need to meet a higher bar to censor.
I feel zero need to understand other people's sexual preferences - just as I don't need other people to understand mine. All I would like is for people to be good to each other. If someone can be sexually gratified without harming someone else - great.
We don't need to know the provenance of every image to fight abuse.
Thanks! That would be super!
Its already on the App Store with zaps, I hope I don’t get unlucky with reviewer roulette. The desktop version on https://nostur.com outside the App Store will always have zaps
Question: You store nsecs in the keychain, right? If my keychain is replicated to my Mac why doesn’t the Mac version see/use those nsecs?
Geez… there’s so much wrong with that reply…
1) Context - the need for a gun in Manhattan is very different than the need for a gun in the Alaska wilderness. I’ve lived in NYC for over 30 years there’s literally zero need for the average person to have a gun for defensive purposes here. If you scream for help someone will hear you and the NYPD will be there moments later. But in places like the Alaska wilderness you’re stupid to wander outdoors without a gun.
2) The type of gun - almost no one wants to outlaw regular shot guns or hunting rifles. The issue is guns that can be concealed and high capacity automatic weapons. Lumping them together muddles the discussion.
3) All sorts of aspects of your life are reasonably regulated already. Take cars - there are mandatory safety features. Speed limits. Seatbelt laws. Etc. The idea that we can’t discuss the equivalent for guns is absurd.
To a point, yes. But it’s complicated… Cars have a place, they have their uses, but too much of modern life requires a car. But cars are harmful in a myriad of ways. It will require restructuring our cities and towns to be more walkable and friendlier to micromobulity options (bikes, etc). And better mass transit is needed.
You may have heard NYC (where) I live will have congestion pricing soon. That’s huge and it’s part of the solution.
Simple answer - places with strict gun laws have far lower gun-related crimes.
Some of us see cars as a huge problem as well.
There are SO many aspects to Nostr where a lawyer’s input would be interesting. That’s just one of them…
Want a wife? Be more liberal...
From the Mormon newspaper...
> If single males highlight their conservative views on dating apps, a growing number of single women won’t swipe right. There’s a political gap growing between young men and women.
>
> ...shifting ideological trends pose real barriers to finding someone to date, impacting future family formation. Their research focused on opposite-sex couples and concluded that if they highly value political sameness as a crucial ingredient for cooking up a relationship, conservative men may not find a lot of conservative women. Liberal women may face the same challenge looking for liberal men.
>
> ...68% of unmarried women voted for Democrats in the last midterm elections, while 52% of unmarried men voted for Republicans.
This aspect of banks was explained really clearly in the classic Christmas movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” (1946, with Jimmy Stewart).
Point being banks, unlike Bitcoin, reinvests dollars deposited back into the community. So the money isn’t all available for withdrawal at a moments notice. That’s a good thing, not a bad thing.
There will be ads on Nostr, but the attention they get will be earned. This WSJ article explains how Duolingo takes this approach on TikTok.
https://apple.news/AWXQrsQSASE65iJw9N0Zxzw
(That will be my approach for ads as well - put out advertising content people like well enough to follow & share).
Isn’t it a “blaster” relay? So it would help with publishing events. No?
I first heard about it during Nostrica
“Woke” is simply trying to see the world through other people’s eyes. It’s totally positive.

Does #[1] have a logout button yet? Last I looked I’m stuck in some read-only mode and can’t login, since I can’t logout of the read-only mode.
I use the Yubico Authenticator and their hardware keys. Nothing is stored on my phone. In some cases I just insert the hardware key or hold it at the top of my iPhone.
Misinformation can cause financial meltdowns…
Freedoms come at a price. The question is how to get the most freedom for the smallest price… (and not just have it be freedom for a few).
Obama used to say he tried to look two steps out at possible consequences… That’s probably a good thing. But it’s a balance - it’s about acknowledging the downside and saying the benefit is worth it.
What’s with the idea around here that experts aren’t important and don’t need to be consulted?
If I wanted Amateur Night I’d walk 2 blocks and go to the Apollo…

The current situation is making economists rethink the causes of inflation. They are seeing inflation being caused by the _expectation_ of inflation. So asking employers to slow down wage growth is to combat that dynamic.
> “Lastly, there is a lot of debate about reports and spam. Yet, no PRs and no bounties were created to elevate these solutions. It seems like people are not that interested in proposing solutions.”
Actually there has been discussion on this (first as an issue, then a PR) for over two months now. There are two pending PRs for content moderation.
#[5] & I proposed “NIP-69” which, after discussion spawned “NIP-68”. My memory is foggy but I remember pointing it out to you and you saying you didn’t like it because it used parameterized replaceable events (which you don’t like). But I’d really love it if you looked at it more closely.
A lot of people have a negative reaction when they first see it, but when they really start understanding it they warm up to it.
