Snort v0.2.0 was tagged.
This release contains a full nostr relay in the browser (the worker relay). It works like any other relay on nostr, and allows us to cache content efficiently.
This also means that all reactions, replies, and posts are cached in your browser and are always available, even when you are offline.
Most of the caching strategies that have been developed thus far have been scrapped and replaced by the worker relay.
Additionally, I've added Negentropy support to allow for really efficient synchronization with the worker relay, meaning that very little data is required to stay in sync.
This opens the door for a lot of really cool things.
As always there are many many many changes so if you're interested in the summarised list you can see them on https://snort.social/about
This March iOS starts allowing 3rd-party AppStores. Still on its own rules and only in Europe but its a shift. As I understand (may be wrong here though) most popular Androids don’t let you chose stores, they just bundle theirs own
What if we make an AppStore client on nostr that works with NIP1 (maybe a couple more simple nips) that allows you to run your own store? You could even make it compatible with android, windows etc if you want. And partner with Strike to allow in-app purchases with bitcoin
Of course, even if our open-source community manages to accomplish this project technically, we won’t be able to run it on our iphones since someone would have to operate the platform and pass Apple’s review which I believe would be near to impossible, at least for the first time
But if we would build some skeleton/prototype, there could appear more companies willing to make business on that and promote nostr as a sideeffect
Googling “open-source app store” gives me zero relevant results

Apple is just larping, and Android has a bunch of open stores. I've been digging deep into the subject, if you're interested: https://zap.store/nostr/
Started dreaming up a social and trustworthy app store with nostr:npub1wf4pufsucer5va8g9p0rj5dnhvfeh6d8w0g6eayaep5dhps6rsgs43dgh9.
But, in apps like these, I cannot overcrowd the profile pages with info nobody came there for (about, website, npub, etc... ). So I came up with this slide out drawer idea. What do you think? #nostrdesign

Btw: nostr:npub1dergggklka99wwrs92yz8wdjs952h2ux2ha2ed598ngwu9w7a6fsh9xzpc you might the App packs 😉
A lot of apps are, easy to get around, right click and open
All apps must be “notarized” by Apple, and distribution through third-party marketplaces is still managed by Apple’s systems. Developers will only be allowed to distribute a single version of their app across different app stores

Does an app really need to be signed for the user to run it? I don't think so, not on Mac at least
You mean accept licenses to produce a binary for Mac/Win, or to distribute them via their appstores?
anything based on piped (not invidious) is better
Nostr Report turned one today! Exactly one year ago we started the Nostr Report with one goal in mind—To be the human algorithm that brings the best news and updates to the users of Nostr. We set out to capture the many changes and developments rapidly occurring on this new censorship-resistant protocol. The protocol was changing daily, with new features such as zaps, communities, and more being added and standardized in new NIPs. New apps, relays, and “other stuff” projects were also emerging at a rapid pace. We saw influential people like Ed Snowden joining, conferences and meetups being planned, and yet there were no algorithms to help capture and share all of this. That’s where we set out to make a difference.
Since then, we have produced a variety of content to make sure you don’t miss anything important. This includes over 350 daily reports which served to keep everyone up to date with the daily pulse on Nostr. We have appeared weekly on nostr:npub14kw5ygpl6fyqagh9cnrytyaqyacg46lzkq42vz7hk8txdk49kzxs04j7y0 📻 in more than 40 episodes to deliver a roundup of each week’s Nostr news. We’ve written articles and welcomed guest writers to publish blogs on various relevant topics. We started a weekly tech newsletter to take a deeper look into Nostr’s tech developments. Our on-the-ground reporter nostr:npub1y67n93njx27lzmg9ua37ce7csvq4awvl6ynfqffzfssvdn7mq9vqlhq62h covered some incredible events, such as the first Nostr “Unconference” at Nostrica, as well as BTC Prague, Baltic Honeybadger, and Nostrasia.
And now we’re working on new formats and methods of keeping you informed about what’s happening on Nostr. As we reflect on an amazing 1st year, we have taken your feedback and suggestions to make some changes to the Nostr Report, which we announced last week and are in the process of developing. While the Daily Report was initially an effective tool, it became clear based on declining engagement, and your helpful feedback, that it was not the best content format moving forward. In addition to new content, we are also exploring new ways to sustain our efforts. We have learned a lot from operating solely on a V4V basis this past year, both in its potential and its current limitations. Our commitment to V4V continues, along with developing additional ways to support the time and efforts of our team members and contributors.
Thank you for an amazing first year! We can’t wait to see what the next 12 months have in store for all of us.
Stay Classy, Nostr.

Thought exactly the same
So they still haven't fixed it? Insane if you think about it
Yes, I like izzy's model better because of that. I know he publishes binary transparency reports which reduce the amount of trust to place in him but he is still a middleman in that sense, it's not just curation
Please do, it's important! Is there anywhere we can follow the progress of feature requests like this one?
Android enforces the Trust on First Use model. You only need to get it right the first time. If you download the APK from the developer and it was good you're set. If you download from third-party repos you're trusting them for first install AND all upgrades
