#zapathon zaping real value

His only follow is David Marcus. David is also connected to Obama with Obama mentioning Lightspark.

Why do 99% of boosts happen within 5 min of the original post? I usually see the same post 3 or 4 times in a row with the original post. Is there an etiquette I'm missing?

I used to follow over 2400 accounts, but since signing into a different client I only have <500 on #Amethyst, but still have the full amount on #Nostrgram Any idea why? Any ideas how to restore the accounts I was following? #plebchain #help

To pay for university and my travels, I spent ten years working in the bush. We were a roving band of gypsies. We would move camp every few weeks. A cook would make us meals from a kitchen trailer and we pulled a shower shack. Most would sleep in tents and the rich folk would have vans or truck campers.

There were usually about 60 people in camp. 60% male and 40% female. We would wake up at 5:30 to a truck horn, to frozen ground, and the smell of bacon.

The work attracted many different types of people, because you could make a lot of money in a short period of time and then head back to your “real” life. There were some like me who loved it so much that they extended the season and worked for 6 months.

There were musicians, photographers, ski bums, Canadian national ski racers, students, African migrants, travellers and even a few criminals. Evenings were spent around a fire dancing, singing, and exploring the world without any inhibitions or expectations. Days off were spent by a river, a dugout sauna on the beach, and naked frolics through the forests. Sometimes on beds of moss.

We were free. The locations of the places we went provided us with freedom, but it was also the people. It was the lack of apprehensions, expectations, and the willingness to coexist with people I would have never been exposed to otherwise.

I’ve never been able to recreate this feeling or experience. I’ve been searching for something like it for the past 15 years.

I’ve always lived my life in the “real” world and have always sought to feel and experience as much as I could.

Bitcoin brought me here, but it’s not why I stay. I stay because I’m back in the bush. I’m with my band of gypsies, around the campfire making music. I didn’t think I would find it again but here we are.

The best

That sounds like gnosticism. Man is both soul and flesh. It's an error to down play the importance of the body.

Ultimately they are relying on other people respecting the connection between the transaction and the jpg. To achieve this they need a third party agent to enforce it. Why go to the trouble of running a blockchain? Why not just have the third party run a simple database of ownership?

Decentralised ledgers are meant to remove the trusted third party. Why would an authority enforce a standard that is meant to undermine their rule?

What about 100k today or 1M in 5 years? Or to put it another way, 3 BTC today or 3 BTC in 5 years.

It's like the zapathon stress testing lightning but costs more than zaps.

Ultimately it highlights the need to put more corn on lightning to ride out high fee scenarios.

Twitter be like:

"your least favourite accounts have tweeted"

I need to get a credit card for travel. I thought I'd get one that had Bitcoin rewards. I can't find any that offer services in Australia because everyone I have found are no longer available because they went bankrupt 🤣 #AUStrich #plebchain

I was more thinking of a fiat subscription that gives paid relays and filter, but also included sats.

I think a barrier to zaps is getting Bitcoin that you are prepared to use. It is also a barrier to paying for relays. 10,000 sats seems a lot more than $3. If the Bitcoin on an exchange is traded their may be tax implications with disposing it, which is another barrier to mixing use.

If there were a $6 per month subscription that signed you up to paid relays and filter and gave you 10,000 sats per month for example, it would be a familiar feeling, like Spotify or Netflix. People might be willing to pay for a spam free add free experience.

Though paying for social media may be a barrier for most

Exactly, not monetising content directly leads to a Pied Piper or Jim Crammer effect. Someone else pays for the content and you become the product.

I’m not sure if we’ve considered all of the implications of mixing money with social, but it’s a fun experiment regardless.

The people that say zaps are the new likes… I like your adventurous spirit, but feel maybe there’s more to money and social than meets the eye.

When you introduce money into an app which doesn’t have a primary goal of sending money, it can get weird in terms of social dynamics and perception.

For example, content may become tailored towards getting zaps, drowning out other types of interactions and possibly eroding trust and cooperation between people.

There’s also the weird dynamic of comparison. Even if you don’t try to, your mind may drift into “oh, they are making more than me on their notes”. I know likes elicit a similar feeling of envy (even if you are not actively envious), but I am curious how money changes things. I don’t have all the answer and suspect there are deep psychological implications.

There may be misalignment of goals as well. This is already evident now where we have some people who are solely focused on stacking. We have automated accounts who post AI generated work that wasn’t created by them — presumably for the sake of stacking sats (otherwise why not credit?) And this is just the start. I don’t know how many of you are familiar with Steemit, but it’s basically a shitcoin website that monetizes content. If you go to the site now, it’s a steaming pile of shit. I doubt anyone actually reads anything. Maybe a few.. but you don’t see this website in the headlines or popping up on any meaningful channels online. As far as the world is concerned it’s invisible. Not saying zap-powered content will end up in the same boat, but there are probably lessons to be learned there and things we can observe.

Social serves a larger goal than just weeding out signal in noise. Not everything needs to provide value all the time. People come to be heard, to feel part of a group, to laugh, to hate… and none of those things involve money. I’m not saying they couldn’t, but we don’t know the full consequence of introducing money into these types of interactions.

I’m not advocating for something being right or wrong or how to do this or that, but more generally curious about the intersection of social and money. I’m here for the ride to see how things play out and how the world reacts to it.

If you have any knowledge on this subject (psychology of money in social interactions), I’d love to hear your thoughts and perspective.

Interesting, I think zaps will decline in use for general social interaction. I think I can already see that apart from attempts to make only zaps happen. Zaps will allow nostr to become a bit of a town square with zaps replacing coins you might have given a begger or busker prepaid for goods and services, but hanging with friends won't typically involve monetary exchange.

I wonder if the ability to zap will improve the honesty of influencers or media. Currently media outlets get paid in aggregate and only have to produce enough good content to get people to buy a subscription. The rest they can make up with content that others pay to promote. The ability to pay for each piece of content could change their incentive structure.
