I'd say email is even more censorship resistant than the others. pgp and self hosting give many options. Email providers are not much different to nostr relay providers. Also I've never heard of anyone having their emails censored (it may happen, but its not something I know about, unlike Twitter/Facebook/reddit/dicord etc
If a business has shareholders it would be illegal to do this. #CapitalismIsAFailure
Why do we need a replacement for signal?
its sad that you think likes from other human have no value.
True. But also it leaves me wondering, why doesn't Elon open source Twitter? Then again does it matter if the service itself is centralised and can't be verified to match the source code?
I setup the laziest possible lightning PoS for this lol. Just uses my http://lnlink.org payment links (no server) and connects directly to my CLN node at home to fetch invoices and show payment success via lightning web sockets.

lightning doesn’t have to be complicated. It should be as easy as running a node and connecting web clients to it. nostr:note16mpec6u6jmu2vc4kwel9jdlmk2lt07pq22cppgjsyslpmmqqrxsqludksp
'lightning doesn’t have to be complicated. It should be as easy as running a node and connecting web clients to it. '
Is that satire? Running a node is EXTREMELY complicated for the average user. In fact I even suspect most users of Bitcoin don't know what a node is. Let alone run one.
If your average mum can't do it. Its not going to be used by many.

Love Iris but like twitter and some other Nostr clients, there is one thing that pains me on desktop: There is no way to open a post or thread in another tab ( even using ctrl+click fails) . And opening within the page then jumps me back to a different position in the timeline when I click back. Firefox and chromium both do it. At least on twitter I could ctrl+click to open in new tab ( I think javascript prevents right click menu posts not simple links). Is there a solution that can be added please?.
Currently, from the nostr clients I've tested so far, these UX issues aren't there. I understand that nostr is still in early stages, I just hope private clients don't soon get ruined with all the issues highlighted. If they do I will be looking for free OS alternatives. I don't see how nostr clients can be profitable without ruining the experience for users. When clients are chasing the money, the UX design becomes driven for those purposes more than for the user. As is the case with every other mainstream social media / video/ image streaming app on the planet. Even substack's once simple and clean UI has slowly deteriorated with endless popups to make the experience so annoying the user is tempted to cough up. You tube is the absolute worse. Almost unwatchable without plugins to strip out all the crap. The donate model is the only one that works for the user. I hope it will work for your client, which is so far very good!
if you are successful all the non custodial platforms will go down the drain. They will not be happy. But bitcoin needs custodial solutions to disappear down a drain. Bitcoins main utility and purpose is to provide digital non custodial control of money. Custodial wallets are the antithesis of everything bitcoin stands for. I really hope you succeed. Good luck.
Couldn't disagree more. Private companies ruin user experience by prioritizing ads , tracking, drm , subscription logins, payment options for blocked features, forced upgrades, walled gardens, spyware, govnt interference. I mean isn't that exactly why Nostr is exists. I believe the non open source clients and elements are going to make it deteriorate.
So few devs on Nostr wants to hear that most people aren't interested in bitcoin, and that quite a lot of people are actively hostile to it. I'd go further than just accepting fiat, the prominence visibility of zaps in in every nostr client, and indeed on every post is going to turn a lot of people off. Bitcoiners don't want to hear it but they need to because a social media platform that can become a digital commons for all must not alienate the majority who want nothing to do with bitcoin.
Displaying the $ monetary value of every post is not a good look IMO. Zaps are already turnoff for would be Nostr users who don't subscribe to the capitalist view of monetising every human relationship and spoken word. Speech should be free and it should be seen to be free. Nostr will fail if it alienates socialist leaning people (which is the vast majority of people under 30 in the US). Young tech millionaires, much as I respect them, don't understand they are not representative of society. Nostr needs to be appealing for everyone.
Well that maybe so, until you say ' you can only do it if you own bitcoin and also you need to set up a lightning node or integrate your bitcoin channels with custodial wallet etc...... ' then their eyes glaze over and the best you can do at that point is send them on their way to do some research. Even bitcoin enthusiasts (myself included) struggle to set up lightning nodes / channels. The principle is sound, the practice is so bad that its a turnoff to anything associated with it.
I don't disagree that Nostr should be seperate form bitcoins/zaps, can be and mostly is. But that just isn't the public perception. And if you want proof of that , just type what is nostr into google: mainstream hacks brings up the integration with bitcoin and Jacks association with it and micropayments etc. The perception matters as much as the reality. And when you try out Nostr for the first time you see zaps button everywhere and perception is confirmed by reality. Now I don't care, bitcoin is great,. but for many people bitcoin IS a turnoff as you yourself said in the original post. The Nostr community needs to consider if it wants to push bitcoin before its got of the ground as a mainstream social media platform it should become.
Zaps button is on every Nostr client i've tested. And its front and central on the UI where one writes posts. You are splitting hairs by implying there is a meaningful difference between suggesting and persuading . But also answer me this: why are there no paypal buttons?
