It's actually dumping snow today. It took a while to ramp up but we are up to over 6 inches so far. There will be a break for a bit before another few hours of snow before 7pm. We'll see how much more snow we get but I need to run the snowblower around before it gets dark. The boys are out playing on the creek ice while it is here.

Plain I sear then set on a low rack in roaster, cover roaster with foil and toss in oven. Can go low and slow or norm temp and time but low and slow gets it to fall apart better.
Marinades work well and I have been loving a maple bourbon one for grilling that is super easy to make. Maple syrup, bourbon, soy sauce, salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder. I gallon ziplock the cut and pour marinade in, remove excess air and let it sit for hours, sometimes overnight.
The good thing is more and more people are waking up to that fact and there are numerous "local exchanges" popping up all over. I know of 7 in my area and I know there are a lot more. It's not the final answer but it's a step in the right direction.

The freeze is gone now and the #snow❄ is supposed to be here today. It's trying right now but not doing much as they called for up to 3" by light but we have just over an inch now. I checked on the greenhouse yesterday and found it did get rather cold but the heat tape did the trick on a couple of the rows under the row cover.
I prepped the snowblower for the workout it might get today and got things covered around the farm against the snow. This front side of the storm is really light and dry snow so it's not bad, I'm concerned if the rest ends up wet and heavy. The neurosis of the El Nino is pretty blatant this year. I'll have to decide when will be best to run the snowblower around the farm, depending on the snowfall today.
The boys played on the creek again before the ice begins the rapid melt as the temps rise. It's rare we get the whole thing frozen like this so I wanted them to make sure to enjoy it while they could. Tonight R has his first wrestling practice of the season which he is excited for.

Yesterday was a holiday for the boys so they got to stay home from school. They spent at least 2 hours at the creek in the -10F temperatures playing on the river of ice. Thankfully the creek is so shallow that if they managed to break through the ice the worst they would be is knee deep.
For once a Kraken game was on early but they ended up losing and ended their streak. It was bound to happen sooner or later. I cleaned in the kitchen while it was on then in the afternoon made a new batch of tortillas. I rolled some of these out which makes them a good bit bigger and thinner but allows them to be used for wraps. The next batch will get rolled so we have more than a handful of large ones.
Today is our calm before the winter❄ storm warning takes effect and we are looking at up to 16" of snow by the time it starts raining on Saturday and reaches 40F. Talk about neurotic weather this year... It just can't make up its mind.

The freeze continues but we are nearing the end of the super cold. Yesterday after watching Man Utd try hard to lose the match the boys and I got suited up and headed down to the creek to check out the ice. It has gotten SUPER thick in places and the tunnel is frozen farther inside that I can remember happening before. The boys ended up getting their hockey sticks and some pucks and then played a good hour of creek #hockey. No skates but they were able to smack the pucks back and forth on REAL ice, not just our laminate floors in the house.
-9F this morning but we are headed back up to more normal temps in the teens and 20sF . I expect the boys will spend much of their day off back down on the ice while it is here, though we should have at least a week of it this thick. I have a bunch of house chores to do today and will watch the Kraken play a morning game for once.

Not a horrible match but neither team played the best. Utd tried hard there to throw the game away but surprisingly managed to eek out that tie. It was REALLY good to see Martinez back and it looks like Casemiro should be back soon so they might have a chance at a proper defense again.

It worked well so I can pull them out by hand after a couple years of standing dead. Gradually they are thinning the stands of trees for me.
Yep, mid season purchase and only 25% but it sounds like they want a lot of decision power so there WILL be changes coming for sure.
