Recently I came to the conclusion Tiktok is the only working search engine for videos today.

Imagine you saw a video somewhere, maybe on Instagram, maybe on some Telegram channel, maybe someone shared it with you on some messenger but you don’t remember the source

You remember some keywords from the video, main scenes. You can’t search it on messengers and instagram. Google doesn’t give you any really related results if its not something main-stream or simply a commercial request for a long time already. Youtube search is just a demo of google’s — often times I find myself going from YT to Google to find something on YT

Tiktok is the only place I can consistently fins something like “Arestovich funny compilation”

Just deployed a massive redesign of Snort.

Say hello to Snort V2 design, huge shoutout to nostr:npub1r0rs5q2gk0e3dk3nlc7gnu378ec6cnlenqp8a3cjhyzu6f8k5sgs4sq9ac as usual.

https://void.cat/d/JkpX5fmKyzGwMASB54sLSU.webp

As usual there are a few rough corners but we should get to them very soon, if you notice anything glaring please let me know.

This redesign has been in progress for over 2 months, the PR changed almost every file in the project.

Why this communist ruschist piece of shot?

Lol if it would be named “battle mosquitos research” it would be fun. Now it looks too stupid and makes author another rusia ass sniffer

This topic directly relates to “due to sanctions its difficult to find hardware in rusia”.

Sanctions on hardware exist (in too small amount unfortunately yet, in 9 years) for the reason — it is used in missiles and rockets to kill thousands of Ukrainians on a daily basis.

Mentioning “due to sanctions” without mentioning why they exist in the first place is a manipulation when there is genocide happening right now and sanctions exist right because of this genocide.

This may be well beyond this topic but one can not expect simply celebrating “a rusian guy finding hardware for a cool DIY stuff” until those hardware stops being used for genocide purposes.

Its very unfortunate that its still possible to find ANY western hardware in rusia.

And your claim “because of the sanctions”. rusia is sanctioned for the reason - they commit genocide daily.

My note is related to the text on the picture in rusian you share.

Half way through a comprehensive guide on assembling and using nostr:npub17tyke9lkgxd98ruyeul6wt3pj3s9uxzgp9hxu5tsenjmweue6sqq4y3mgl for the Russian audience. Cold storage solutions are a big problem now with all the sanctions; people need a simple and affordable solution to keep their bitcoin safe. I do not see a better option than SeedSigner.

It is twice as cheap as ordering Trezor One from an unauthorized reseller and is safer than anything you can get in the region. The choice is obvious!

Kudos to the team behind the project 🧡

“Big problem with sanctions” — is their root cause and of course not the difficulties minions are facing buying some hardware

How much time until this becomes a new shakhed?

I’m not giving up hope in that thats why I say that I don’t want to discourage you in trying.

But in case you are happy to not have much exposure to people living under oppressing regimes (btw, I don’t believe in this term, I think people have exactly the govts they want to have) — then I’m sharing my personal experience that it might be useless and those people in fact just like whats going on and 1) is not possible by giving ppl certain freedoms

Maybe.

But 1) is most likely useless, given rusia example

And 2) doesn’t seem like something good, does it?

So what are your expectations/goals? Giving people tools for communication in order to solve the problem of oppressing regimes?

Or do you want to let people living under oppressive regimes a bit of happiness in form of memes and let them chill further sponsoring oppressive regimes which will, sooner or later, start wars with their neighbors because oppressive regimes must have wars at some point?

Talked with nostr:nprofile1qqs25hnvelruklp5x8gjkr4yhql9kd2zwcp9ygyq565xrz2s2flczxcpz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumn0wd68ytnzvuq35amnwvaz7tmwdaehgu3wdaexzmn8v4cxjmrv9ejx2aspz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfdum2d34c about this today. Running a relay under a hostile regime might be impossible (although apparently Tor is very nearly a silver bullet). But there are other options. Scuttlebutt (Manyverse in particular) has some really nice solutions to this problem — because of how pubs are set up, you can still gossip, even without connecting to the internet, by connecting via LAN (and maybe Bluetooth)?

There are tons of other ways client databases could be shared:

- jsonl exports to a flash drive

- animated QR codes

- I'm sure lots more

I'd love to see/build this eventually to help dissidents in hostile regimes communicate with each other. nostr:nprofile1qqs8d3c64cayj8canmky0jap0c3fekjpzwsthdhx4cthd4my8c5u47spz3mhxue69uhhyumn9ehx7uewwdhkx6tpdsq32amnwvaz7tm9v3jkutnwdaehgu3wd3skueqpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucm4wfex2mn59en8j6gvwlazv , you used to work on SSB, do you have any plans to do something like this?

nostr:nevent1qqst9z7wzg3fmxl2cuyg5eadmla2v30najveqzmnrveqlu368qhrgpgpzdmhxue69uhhyetvv9ukzcnvv5hx7un8wgp9se

Do you think there is any lack of communication means or information exposure in rusia for instance?

Not trying to discourage you but “building software to let people communicate under hostile regimes” may become useless. People under hostile regimes always communicate. They just accept doing nothing.

Unless you are talking about giving them opportunity to see the latest memes, say, about the nations their hostile regime is committing genocide to (:

Indeed, didn’t think about it. Then zaps are even worse metric than comments and likes at this point

I’m not sure I’m completely following on what are bad/fake zaps specifically, but when I was thinking about zaps all I was able to see is that when Alice zaps Bob it is impossible to figure out Bob would’t send those bitcoins back to Alice (and that Alice != Bob) in order to push a note higher in some algo. And it can be completely free for them if they have direct lightning channel open . And those zaps are 100% real.

The only thing I can see as possible to build on trust is something like “ok, Jack and Michael are good guys so zaps they receive are real and we can see which their posts perform better”

The more important thing is to first distinguish personalization algos and general lists with different sorting criteria

Then come to the point that even though current media’s algos are annoying with a lot of ads and attention catchers, you don’t really want absence of algos and just seeing your followers — you still want to see new content in order to expand your network, your views, your interests

And only after those steps you have to understand how you want to connect different algos to your feed, who will implement it and how and what is the base cost of such a feature (which I doubt anyone tried to implement earlier in production)
