Having your own posts rephrased by AI as a way to obfuscate your writing style makes sense if you really want to stay anonymous.

The Fediverse is a good middle ground between all of that, in my opinion. That's because I use Lemmy a lot (and also Mastodon, because no shot).

Personally I expect it to get out of hand once the platform gets more real users, but since its so decentralized the solutions for that will also be decentral.

So what the exact solutions will look like is to be seen, but I assume a mix of verified relays, Web of trust (Nostrudel has this where you only see content from people you follow, who they follow, and who the people they follow follow) and just general anti spam detection. I wrote a basic anti spam detection for a prototype I made to, and it actually caught a surprising amount just by monitoring how quickly accounts post and how similar their messages are.

The design of this platform is currently sided the other way, its going to be extremely hard to censor this platform. On the other side, its also hard to keep bots out as there is no central authority. Some use paid relays for example that have built in filters, others like me want to see everything and then decide to just block things they don't wanna see on the client.

One massive tip though, there is a reason you don't have a global timeline on other platforms its going to be a massive spamfest. So if you want to discover things try the DVM's such as primals popular list, hashtags, that kinda thing. Follow people that people you follow follow, etc.

Yes, ideally if your client is capable of reporting you can contribute by reporting them.

How it works and if anything is done with reports depends on what your using, for example some clients may block things that are reported by people you follow but not followed by people you follow. Its a bit of a self police in that regard at the moment.

I have been pleading for a ban list feature where we can subscribe to blocklists that are maintained by people we trust (Think adblock style), but I am not a dev so I haven't been very succesfull in my advocacy for that feature.

It is quieter but that’s why I like it. The concept of zaps is truly revolutionary but it needs much more ppl here to monetise it. Even if you have to leave, and I completely understand it’s very difficult to monetise if it’s your primary source of income, always keep a presence here because I’m confident it will take off when all the others get sanitised (and they will).

Lots of cypherpunks here so anonymity is definitely encouraged. I would say the ethos is more about quality of engagement. Most of us are a bunch of random nyms who met here in cyberspace because we enjoyed the content and discussions being had in this space. I feel like that is a pretty healthy way to grow a community from ground up.

We’ve already seen how they’re buying out social media platforms, and paying influencers millions to shift the narrative their way.

That’s why media is so important. Probably the most important of all in shaping hearts and minds (propaganda and manipulation)

AI and tech is shaping societies (surveillance state, digital prisons).

However these are all just tools.

Tools that can be used by anyone.

You have the power to create your own media empire with things you use (most likely waste time on) every day.

Switch doom scrolling to content creation.

Similarly, AI, software and tech is now more accessible than it’s ever been.

It just requires time, energy and effort to learn and create.

If you’re going to start a side hustle or build a business, but have no idea what to do or where to start, centre it around these 2 industries.

Even if you have started already, whatever your industry is, both of these need to be implemented.

Social media was the antidote against traditional media in democratising free speech, and blocking against propaganda manipulation.

They’re now at a stage where they’re way more dangerous than mainstream media - but you’re at the whims of nefarious private organisations and shadow agencies.

The protection against this is a decentralised protocol for social networking and communication like Nostr.

That doesn’t mean forgoing the current social media platforms, as lots of work needs to be done on them.

It does mean building on something where you can’t be banned, restricted or censored because someone decides they don’t like what you say.

I’ve downloaded Primal and Damus on iPhone. Primal appears to have the better user interface thus far.
