I followed the instructions on this page. Go yell at nostr:npub1aghreq2dpz3h3799hrawev5gf5zc2kt4ch9ykhp9utt0jd3gdu2qtlmhct if their documentation is inaccurate:
โConnect your Nostr client (e.g., Damus, Amethyst) to your private relay for seamless backup of all Nostr activity. In Damus, add your Relay URL via Menu > Relays.โ
In a totally unrelated note to your conversation, the private relay on umbrel automatically syncs your notes from some main relays, so no need to connect the client at all ๐ค
Don't get me wrong, I don't think that's the solution, nor the problem. Im trying to identify what causes the app to crash.
My observation now is that I have less relays it's trying to connect to. This could mean a) less relays work better or b) one or more of the relays I was connecting to earlier caused the app to crash. As I'm refollowing people slowly, the amount of relays goes up again, but so far it's stable and smooth. I try to identify if it's a single relay that for some reason crashes amethyst, as chance is higher to hit it with more relays, or of its the pure amount.
I fixed mine by unfollowing a bunch of people. Works like a charm now. (I think some relays are borked)

If I unfollowed you last night, please don't take offense. I was experimenting with making my follow list smaller so that Amethyst doesn't crash (I think either it was too many relays or some relays are borked). It actually worked, I will slowly refollow all of you until it starts crashing again, to nail down the issue.
