Agree with all of this. It has potential to be a massive improvement - it already is in many ways. But trust in third parties to some extent seems inevitable.

I think Twitter is ruining him (as it's done to others). He shouldn't have been kicked off the platform, but it honestly was probably better for his mind. He now spends A LOT of time there - despite admitting it isn't good for him.

Have you read The Constitution of Knowledge by Jonathon Rauch? It’s about this very thing.
I just can't figure out who - that is, what group of citizens - wants this. They seem to be wildly unpopular when the public is polled. But there's still a big push for it. Now, I understand big governments are not often responsive to the electorate. But there's not even a good cover story for CBDCs. Usually when they want to push something that citizens don't want they come up with a cover story that at least large parts of corporate media will puppet with a straight face. I don't even see that with this.

If we make it out of the next few decades then I think Bitcoin (and Nostr) will be a big part of it. It’s almost certainly a necessary condition. But I don’t think it’s close to sufficient.
I think I agree with Eric Weinstein - the project we have going on this planet can’t be sustained. It’s like we’re playing Russian roulette and there are fewer and fewer empty barrels.
Given the deep level at which you think about problems I think you’d enjoy this conversation.
