In honor of the new Bitcoin all time high, let's remember this epic piece of technical analysis from nostr:nprofile1qqsp4lsvwn3aw7zwh2f6tcl6249xa6cpj2x3yuu6azaysvncdqywxmgprpmhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuumwdae8gtnnda3kjctvq9n8wumn8ghj7enfd36x2u3wdehhxarj9emkjmn99ah8qatzx9e8gmr3vdsnsu3kv96hjcthx4hr26pnds6ngv3jv3kngumj0y6kg7nxv4jngd3exen8zefcwvm8zem4v34hxdmydf6xvuelvfex7ctyvdshxapaw3e82egpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejs5mzk3a about 10 months ago

Agreed. But I did enjoy your Sauna article too ๐
I just finished reading "The Mandibles", after nostr:nprofile1qqsqfjg4mth7uwp307nng3z2em3ep2pxnljczzezg8j7dhf58ha7ejgpz4mhxue69uhkummnw3ex2mrfw3jhxtn0wfnszynhwden5te0wahhgtn4w3ux7tn0dejszxthwden5te0wdjkuerfwshxummnvekxzun99e3k7mgrcp7e2 recommended it on one of his podcasts about a year ago. Absolutely brilliant book. And I agree with Odell's characterization of it: it's from 2016, but it's far ahead of it's time, and in a few years it may become a timeless classic.

Yes, I'm using nostr:nprofile1qqs9df4h2deu3aae83fmet5xmrlm4w5l9gdnsy3q2n7dklem7ezmwfcpz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduq5xamn8ghj7dnvv45xs7tywde8g6rpvakkjuekw46nvar4vdhxgan6wumkxatzwpckk6rk0puhjdm2da5k7ce5x4kkkumjx3jkzepwdahxjmmwqyt8wumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnwdaehgu3wd9hxvmckqw0xz and self-hosting a nextcloud client on it. It is super easy. Highly recommend it, Start9 is amazing. So far it works by default over Tor only so it's a bit slow, but the team plans to add other options soon, and I heard that it's possible to connect remotely via Tailscale but I don't know how that works yet
First, my knowledge of this area is very sparse. Second, my response would depend on what you're asking: do you need to know about the issue this is trying to address? I could suggest bitcoin optech on pinning: https://bitcoinops.org/en/topics/transaction-pinning/ (optech is good as a library/reference on these technical concepts in bitcoin, generally; you can also follow links from there). Are you asking how exactly the rules in BIP431 will work? I don't know, but the basic concept is: we have this complicated bunch of rules to decide whether a transaction can be received into our mempool. These rules try to make sure a node can't get DOSed with infinite replacements; try to make it so that what gets into the mempool is "incentive compatible" with mining, i.e. that a rational miner would actually choose these transactions, and try to make it so that pinning as described above is either impossible .. or really hard? (not sure). This TRUC thing will be a new tx type which, if you opt into it, you can't have a chain of unconfirmed txs .. like tx1 is unconfirmed, then you add tx2 which spends from tx1, then tx3 spends from tx2 etc. etc.; TRUC would only allow tx2, not the ones after. That will make some versions of pinning not work, if I understand it correctly. Perhaps someone can expand on that last bit.
My original comment was along the lines of 'trying to understand and reason about whether a transaction can confirm is just getting more and more complex the more we understand it, which just illustrates that relying on penalty mechanisms like in current LN is really painful because of the game theory stuff'. not a criticism of this proposal, as I said, it does at least *try* to *restrict* how complex things can be, but it's arguable whether it achieves that goal, I think (because it's adding another way for txs to work .. but .. if everyone takes up this new ruleset for LN stuff then perhaps not? I don't know).
Thanks for the detailed explanation, appreciate it. I wish I could understand this better. I need to study it in more detail
$MSTR price chart looks absolutely crazy, until you realize what Michael Saylor is doing, and then it makes perfect sense. But then you think "why is no one else doing this?", and suddenly the rabbit hole gets really really deep.
Absolutely incredible. Haven't seen anything like it. For better or worse, I don't own it, just fascinated by it

I read about it here https://bips.dev/431/ but didn't fully understand it yet. Can you ELI5?
Fascinated by this inspiring 2014 documentary about the early years of Bitcoin. So many interesting things, from speculation on the origin of Satoshi, to the first Bitcoin businesses, to the creep of state regulations and restrictions of freedom.
I was very motivated to share it on Nostr, but the video is 500 MB so it would require a subscription to a storage server like nostr.build. I might do it later, but in the meantime you can access it directly from my relay storage over Tor

Hey Nunya, I've been using Obsidian which uses Zettelkasten and it was one of the best decisions I ever made in my professional career. Highly recommend it. And Nico's channel is great! I learned a lot from him. Hit me up if you need some tips. Cheers

I asked Llama3 about drinking raw milk and it gave the answer below. What do you think about the answer?
------
While it's technically possible to drink milk straight from a cow, there are several reasons why this isn't commonly done:
1. **Sanitation and safety**: Milk from a cow is not sterile, which means it can contain bacteria like E. coli, Salmonella, or Listeria. Drinking raw milk from a cow without proper handling and processing increases the risk of foodborne illnesses.
2. **Milk quality**: Raw milk from a cow may contain mastitis (inflammation of the udder), which can contaminate the milk with bacteria and other substances. Additionally, the milk may not have been properly cleaned or cooled after milking.
3. **Cow health**: A cow's milk production is influenced by factors like nutrition, stress, and health issues. Drinking milk directly from a cow might expose you to potential health risks if the cow has underlying conditions that could be transmitted through its milk.
4. **Bacterial growth**: Raw milk contains bacteria that can multiply quickly in warm temperatures (above 40ยฐF or 4ยฐC). This can lead to the growth of harmful pathogens like Clostridium botulinum, which can cause botulism.
In contrast, pasteurization (heating the milk to a high temperature for a short period) kills off most bacteria and extends the shelf life of the milk. The milk is then cooled, packaged, and distributed to stores or consumed on-site at dairy farms or creameries.
While there are some small-scale, local dairies that sell raw milk directly to consumers, it's essential to ensure that these operations follow proper handling, processing, and sanitation procedures to minimize risks. Even so, many experts recommend against drinking raw milk from a cow due to the potential health risks involved.
Great Video. And the question is, why not make pension contributions optional, as in having multiple modes a user can chose from? No coverage, partial coverage, etc.
Fair enough. Training AI will always require a huge consulting infrastructure. But at least we can solve the server hosting and api issue with open source tools. Running AI privately instead of having a giant corporation collecting prompts data is also a major win
I just experimented with mistral and Llama3 on my start9 and my mind is blown. Lots of false results, always need to double check, but I was particularly impressed by the ability to explain scientific knowledge. Below I asked "why is the sky blue, and give me the underlying physics equations"

It hasnโt yet come to the UK, but very worrying developments happening in the EU, illegal cash and payments from unhosted wallets and the need to kyc your whole stack if you want to spend it (Iโm over simplifying). Making me feel I actually (not joking), need to have a boating accident related conversation with my accountant. If the government knows exactly what I have, with locations confirmed, they could get grabby. Not a conspiracy theorist, but the government is broke and coming sniffing is not something Iโd put past themโฆ.. #bitcoin https://x.com/freddienew/status/1771492593676714091?s=46
Very concerning. It's also interesting how they do it at the EU level, not at the national parlament level

"But in practice such a society could not long remain stable. For if leisure and security were enjoyed by all alike, the great mass of human beings who are normally stupefied by poverty would become literate and would learn to think for themselves; and when once they had done this, they would sooner or later realize that the privileged minority had no function, and they would sweep it away. In the long run, a hierarchical society was only possible on a basis of poverty and ignorance."
1984 (George Orwell)
