FrostSnap sounds like it is close:

Hopefully that proves out, at least a very exciting project

Your laptop is owned. Thinking otherwise unless you’re a very sophisticated person who has perfect execution is laughable.

I love the Block team and they’re making reasonable trade offs on the Bitkey for a totally noob user with small funds. However for anyone who has a decent sized stack and is not a noob I believe it’s the wrong set of trade offs. In the Bitkey model effectively you have two hot keys (phone and key server) which is a big trade off even if it’s source viewable (it is not FOSS), and your hardware wallet has no screen so you could easily approve a transfer to an address other than you intended if someone has hijacked your phone and what appears on its screen. The Bitkey is a $150 glorified yubikey. This is fine for noobs and small amounts, I would not trust with large amounts. It’s great for mitigating some basic theft and loss of key scenarios, but beyond that is quite limited. Hopefully in future iterations we get FROST and other enhancements.

Who is insane enough to loan the US government money for 10 years at only 3.7%?

GM! I feel like there's an alternate reality where our American election process isn't openly corrupt and a decade apart we had Ron Paul and Tulsi Gabbard as presidents and America and the world are in a wildly better position. Instead we have corrupt morons running. Kamala and Trump both suck big time!

Overall economy (not just the government, but especially the government) has waaaaaay too much debt

GM! I’m pretty sure late at night my IQ drops by 30+ points(and I don’t have that to spare). When I’m tired I feel like I can barely function. Getting to middle age means you just have to aggressively prioritize sleep. Before it was the smart choice,

Now it’s the mandatory choice.

I’m thinking free options are needed for noobs as an on-ramp to Nostr but with significant write limits, and then long term offer up more subscriptions to various paid relays to create long term financial sustainability and as spam prevention. I like the idea of paid relays for specific topics or communities.

100% same. I think people are so stuck in the “free” by selling your personal data model, that we do need Nostr noob options that are free with limits and serve as on-ramps to paid relays and subscriptions. If you have to pay to even get in started then it feels like nostr won’t scale until people are aggressively burned by current mainstream options.

For sure. I’m not trying to “come at you”, just explain my own personal mental model. Appreciate all Damus subscribers. I assume Purple subscribers will eventually have no or very high limits.

Yeah I mean ultimately the flip side is how much bandwidth and storage do you expect Will to pay out of pocket, not even counting his time and headache dealing with these spammers. I’d just flip the framing and ask why do you expect him to work for you for free? Fundamentally folks have to be okay with some sort of fees in nostr if we don’t want to fall down the creepy tracking and selling your data ad model path. If you don’t want to pay a fee to help support the platform and mitigate spam then limits are just a reality.

Nostr is open and everyone can do what they want. Personally I think it’s fine to have rate limited public relays for noobs. For folks who have been around a while and want to use Nostr regularly I’m guessing paid relays will be the primary way forward. It’s just not sustainable or a good UX to accept limitless spam from anyone.
