Super important part of the story.
For one thing we have never had issues with parasites and never treated the flock with medicine. Frequent rotations to new paddocks not only builds the fertility of the soil. It also keeps the animals healthy.
Do try your sous vide gadget.
It is a very nice tool to have in the cupboard.
But you can overdo it. Last weekend I gave a leg of a lamb 6-7 hours on 58 degree C and that was way to much. It was juicy. But way to tender / falling apart completely like a jelly.

Muscovy ducks are indeed great flyers. Remember comming home to 18 ducks roosting on the roof ridge.
And they are even better breeders. According to local folklore they can hatch even stones :-)
Not a bad advice.
One thing to keep in mind: people rarely sell or part with their very best animals. So building a high-quality flock — calm, friendly, healthy, disease-free, easy birthing, great mothers — can take real time and effort.
But it’s absolutely worth it. This is generational wealth.
Just yesterday a friend came to borrow the bolt gun. He had two lambs that were too far gone from heavy intestinal worm loads and needed to be put down.
Livestock come with many joys... and many sorrows.

Harvesting 12 in total this fall. Most lambs. But also our beloved 9 year old ram.

It took me about 4 hours for the three. And then another 2 hours for grinding and packaging and cleaning.
