agreed - but also i need a house, so i can begin building a family, which requires fiat - and it’s almost impossible to save for a deposit with the current cost of renting
so any extra fiat would be a bonus rn for my life
is there any simple way that a pleb like me can make money betting on the upcoming rate cuts?
so i tried to move my ubuntu server os from the sdcard in the raspi to the ssd instead (using the rpi-clone scripts from the github repo)
buuuut, when i take my sdcard out i just get a black screen with white blinking cursor in top-right
what in the fuck did i do wrong? 😓
i just want ubuntu server running off my ssd instead of the sdcard fk, why is it so hard to do that all over ssh?
yeah, gotcha
didn’t he stop people from blocking or searching for “npub” or mentioning the word “nostr” too?
ahhh so did a certain twitter subgroup get rugged and censored?
interesting - who, and what for do we think?
what’s going on in the twitter-verse? why are people freaking out over censorship and substack shit?
do they know about nostr?
Depending on your comfort level, it doesn’t seem too difficult to pull apart to check the display connector.

ahhhh that seems pretty chill actually, i was watching a youtube video and it looked like they took a lot more apart (made it look way more intimidating)
but yeah i’ll give that a look and try see if it’s just a fucked cable, best case it’s literally just a loose cable
but i think these models of macbook pros have been suffering from like the display cables fraying, so we will see
looks difficult to just replace single ribbon cables that run past the display, because you have to actually take the seal off from around the screen to get to the small cavity behind the actual screen where the ribbon cables run
but i’ll see what i can discover this way, cheers
bump
am i gonna have to get a whole ass new screen?? for what’s probably just one fucked cable??
#[0]
how would i diagnose and fix this?
it’s a 2019 macbook pro 13”
the display was working depending on the tilt of the screen (so i’m guessing it’s a frayed / loose cable somewhere, that’s going from mobo to the display), but now the display isn’t working at any angle
i used to be able to sometimes push near the bottom of the display, put it just at the right angle, and then it worked - but it seems like the cable(s) that are broken must be pretty well fked now
thoughts?
what would be the most privacy preserving way to look at your bitcoin balance, and maybe even interact with it, from your iPhone?
it would probably be tor browser through your own node, right?
australian mortgage delinquency rates are notably higher than the previous decade

#[2] update:
i found this little script that i think might do the trick, haven’t looked into it fully, or tried it yet, but it feels like it should be able to get the job done
will i finally be able to afford a home?
stay tuned

any australian property people here at all? do we think there be a good time to buy a house anytime soon within australia?
renting is very unaffordable, but so is a mortgage - my plan is to wait for company allocated shares to come through and then i’ll sell those for a house deposit (sometime in the next year)
but knowing my luck i’ll do exactly that, and house prices will just fall off a cliff over the next few years
thoughts?
yo, anyone else getting this issue in damus? not a massive issue by any means, but -
when i’m scrolling through damus quite often npubs aren’t resolving into legible names, and the profile pictures are staying as robots, and tagged (@…) npubs are staying as illegible npubs without names
i then click on the profile or the tagged npubs and it usually fixes the issue (return to the feed to now see the correct, resolved, names), but it ruins the experience a bit to have to do this every third or fourth post
is this an issue with me only being connected to private relays? or is it something in damus that’s fixable?
yep already doing that so i should be good on that front!
i saw something the other day around specific nodes were collecting info on all their peers, suspected to be operated by chainalysis type orgs
i think they mentioned some ip blacklist you can use?
any tips around things like that, or just protecting your ip address and staying as private as possible when broadcasting transactions and using the lightning network from your own node?
what key basics should i know about preserving privacy when setting up my own ubuntu bitcoin node?
yeah, i’d need to take the case apart, then power the ssd and get an adaptor to connect it to the computer too (then i could flash it)
but i bet my bottom dollar there’s a way to just like wget and install ubuntu server to the ssd from ubuntu server (on the sd card)
