Looks like Neutra!

If there were major competing standards for global computer networks outside of TCP/IP, and if I were concerned about the success of those alternative protocols, then yes it would be a meaningful question to ask.

Even the question of "how many DAUs for the internet?" Is meaningful

#asknostr What are the best options for doing something like an all-purpose "digital self-hosting" device, similar to Umbrel, but in the cloud?

I realize that "owning the metal" is the ideal case, but I'm in a situation where this might not work optimally, at least not in the short-term...

Because energy, frequency and vibration, in the context of Wifi refers to specific physical phenomena... Namely electromagnetic waves

But divorced from those contexts, they become just words. Or worse, pseudoscientific "woo."

Self-care is a routine itself!

For instance, I like playing #pinball as a hobby. I find my optimum is ~ every few days. I don't need to play ever day... But every ~3-5 days I think, you know, it'd be fun to play some pinball

So I go, play a ~1 hr session, and I'm pretty much done for a while.

Snow Bros sequel?? 😅

The core question is, in my mind, can a healthy and proposerous society exist that is all or mostly free-market?

I think the progressive answer to this question is basically "no", while libertarians or those on the (center) right would answer generally "yes."

Center-left technocrats might answer "no" as well

He can choose to have both staying where he is.

Ooh I gotta listen to that... Have no idea that he knows Nostr exists!

However "it's interoperable" is quite a big stretch, based on the fact that the #mostr and #momostr bridges are both fundamentally broken...

What if relay moderation looks like a bucket?đŸȘŁ

We are exploring exactly that with Wotrlay, a new WoT relay we are introducing today! It treats moderation as resource allocation, where the web of trust determines your publishing capacity.

Wotrlay gives each public key a 'bucket' of publishing capacity that refills at different rates based on their social graph rank. Low-rank identities can still participate, but at a measured pace. Higher-rank identities gain more capacity organically through network participation, no manual approval needed.

Try the public instance at wss://wotr.relatr.xyz

This proof-of-concept integrates Relatr for dynamic ranking and is built in Go using the great Rely framework from nostr:npub176p7sup477k5738qhxx0hk2n0cty2k5je5uvalzvkvwmw4tltmeqw7vgup. Kudos to him for it and the WoT example that inspired this project.

If you want to dig deeper, we've published an article that walks through the bucket model, progressive rate limiting, newcomer onboarding, and why this approach avoids auth friction while keeping the relay permissionless in practice.

All the code for this project, is open source and is made to be run by anyone 💛

So who's WoT is it based on?

Daemon is a great illustration of the potential for DAOs, that hasn't nearly been realized yet.

Yeah... don't think I agree with the design decision. I think this should just be a "YouTube"-like client for videos that get posted to Nostr. That's what I would personally find valuable.

Nostr users should understand how to filter based on their follows, WoT, by relays, etc.

Censorability, the use of blossom, etc the onus should be on the user posting the video to worry about that. Of course Plebs can make it easy for users to use blossom, but that shouldn't be a requirement to be on the site...

So that being said, some concrete ideas / suggestions:

1. When I just logged on, I saw some "prawn" right on the front page... Would it be better perhaps to default to just videos from the user's social graph on Nostr, rather than just "global"?

2. Would a "quick and dirty" way of bootstrapping content be to just suck in a bunch of stuff from Internet Archive? You know, like what nostr:nprofile1qqs9e40cq5kx0y0ys70sundezdr96ugata07ps9tnyzfccryck3etgsaggnay does?

3. any chances of Smart TV integration (yeah I know, probably too early... but I doubt any of the Youtube competitors have even gotten that far yet...)

IMHO this was never going to be anything more than a simple mesh network tool.

Great for disasters! It's like having a flashlight for when the power goes out.

But you don't use a flashlight to light your home regularly, you have better tools for that....

Yep. Even nostr:nprofile1qqsyk3sjx32e4xs5qj2rtcwapeyrj95yfn4d4h7kkhdgyjc409fmmespr9mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumt0d4hhxarj9ecxjmnt9urzqpjr is on Mastodon.

There's a calculus people make when they stay on X, something like "that's where I have to be to be a part of the conversation"...

But I guess you just have to be willfully ignorant of the fact that what you're seeing is entirely manipulated by an egomaniac who's purged Twitter of anyone who's not his syncophant...?

It absolutely makes sense to at least have some kind of estimate of "how many people are using this every day?"

Nostr at 6,000 DAUs is a whole different thing than Nostr at 10k, 100k, or 1 million.

Yes, this parallels what I've been saying about the #mostr bridge.... If you're not willing to fix it, take it down.

Nostr has too many "zombie projects," abandoned by developers who have long since moved onto the Next Shiny Thing.

But these projects still live on to "haunt" new users and pollute the general UX of this platform.

But then it's like....

Oh, here are the 5 new posts since I last checked...

Done, back to my life!

I think about this sometimes... We could be hit by (say) an errant gamma ray burst that would completely sterilize 1/2 of the planet, with the other half just going on like normal... 💀

Hope you’re well! Habla seems to be not working right now? I can log into my profile by I can’t click into my own or anyone else’s articles.

Looking for a #longform client?

Right now I'd recommend Decent Newsroom, or even Nostra which seems to have recently integrated a long form client
