Violinist and teacher, building a homestead on raw land in between lessons and concerts. Fascinated by how we can develop resilience in our lives, in our families, in our communities. I'm excited about freedom tech and circular economies, and am deeply grateful for the devs and advocates who are helping build tools for a better future.

I doubt that mortality was actually through the roof until we brought in the "experts." To echo what Sandor already mentioned - look up Semmelweis.

I do think that most areas are lacking in true experts, though. Until relatively recently, there would have been women in the communities who had attended many births and learned from generations of others.

So it's worth finding a really good midwife.

Homebirth was one of the best choices I ever made. We've been having babies for far longer than we've had hospitals! And keep in mind that a lot of the complications that come up in births happen because of the medicalization of birth.

However, it's worth mentioning that in all previous generations, we were outside most of time and were used to a much larger range of movements, including a ton of squatting. Mobility and certainly diet as well - probably factor into how easy it is for different women.

I've heard this from a lot of homesteaders - grass becomes nutrition for everyone. It's the ultimate in solar energy.

We have a heifer (and a young bull) and are hoping for a pregnancy soon and then milk eventually. Right now we're getting milk from a neighbor, and whatever we don't use is put to good use with the chickens and the dogs!

Hello Nostr friends - I fooled around a bit with the PlebAI website yesterday and made a biochar GPT!

You can ask 2 questions before the 100 sats fee kicks in, and by telling it that you like an answer (or don't) I think you can help train it. I gave the agent a ton of resources from which to draw, and I think it might currently also do a general online search (which I may disable - not sure if that's as useful as the specific sites and pdfs which I uploaded).

Anyway - check it out and ask a few questions! Link in the first comment.

I know it's ridiculously specific but it was a fun little project.
