That's an interesting question. By default, no.

But there is this thing called "Nostr Wallet Connect" which is an order in the form of a nostr note to your node to send a payment.

You should be able to create that note and send it to other devices by using Samiz, IF that note ever reaches the internet and is detected by your node, the Zap should just occur.

Using offline / async LN payments might be a way to go. Just need to connect from time to time with one of your online LN peers: https://github.com/lightning/bolts/pull/989

Nice to see the government education monopoly being broken up in the fine state of TN. I hope other states follow suit and empower parents to choose where and how their kids are educated.

The US federal gov isn't the only one that's made big financial promises it can't keep. If you are thinking about where to put down roots plan accordingly:

"Across all 50 states, there was a collective $6.96 trillion in liabilities for public pensions that were unfunded, meaning the cost disbursed in pensions was higher than the amount collected, averaging almost $21,000 in unfunded liabilities per person, according to ALEC’s Unaccountable and Unaffordable report. California, Hawaii, Illinois and Alaska all exceeded $35,000 in liabilities per capita, while Tennessee and Indiana were the only states below $10,000 per capita."

Amazing! 🤩

Square has millions of terminals out there, I'm pretty sure the problem is more about training than technology. The front line retail works need to be able to handle all the bitcoin lingo and qr codes and different ways payments can fail. How do you handle refunds? what happens if customer says payment went through but it doesn't show up on terminal? Anyway I'm sure it will happen eventually but it's still early days in bitcoin land.

For years now I've had a hard time forgiving nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m for all his Twitter fuck ups...the censorship etc..really made me hate him actually. But I gritted my teeth because even then everything else was worse.

I decided to listen to the latest dispatch with nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx this morning and you know what? I forgive you Jack. You convinced me to give you a second chance. With that said, ALL SQUARE TERMINALS SHOULD BE ABLE TO ACCEOT BTCOIN FROM CUSTOMERS. Let the merchants get it as USD if they want but having it as an option will drive usage. Bitcoin as medium of exchange must be bootstrapped on the merchant side.

Get it done please.

Making businesses use a second tablet on the side to accept bitcoin sucks.

#nostr

I agree it'd be great if customers could pay at square terminal with bitcoin, but at least merchants now have the option to automatically convert some of their sales to bitcoin. I hope this is a first step to future full bitcoin/lightning customer payment support.

#eltor sounds like a really cool project, pay tor relays for bandwith with anonymous LN micropayments. Team is making progress and could use help testing:

That was my thought exactly when I heard the interview from nostr:npub1ahxjq4v0zlvexf7cg8j9stumqp3nrtzqzzqxa7szpmcdgqrcumdq0h5ech . A better product IMO would be whole life insurance where you , the insurance co, and a third key custodian hold what ever btc you put in. At the end your heirs get that btc back. The only reason to do it is the tax savings. Insurer makes money on flat custody fees and from loans they make to you against your btc held.

The fake news is still peddling the same "murder for hire" fiction used to smear Ross during the trial. Best to send anyone interested in learning more to a better source like Reason Mag.

Do you remember when AOL bought Time Warner? I worked for WB studio then and we were forced to get AOL "company" email accounts. Good times, good times.

Biden Commutes Sentences For Nearly 2,500 Americans Convicted Of Non-Violent Drug Offenses

Biden Commutes Sentences For Nearly 2,500 Americans Convicted Of Non-Violent Drug Offenses

President Joe Biden said on Jan. 17 that he is commuting the sentences of nearly 2,500 individuals, marking the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history.

The latest pardons are being granted to people who were convicted of non-violent drug offenses and who are serving “disproportionately long” sentences compared to those they would receive today under current law, policy, and practice, Biden said in a statement published by the White House.

https://www.theepochtimes.com/us/biden-commutes-sentences-for-nearly-2500-americans-convicted-of-non-violent-drug-offenses-5793925?utm_source=partner&utm_campaign=ZeroHedge

, aimed at reducing the size of the federal prison population while promoting rehabilitation.

The previous weight ratio of 100 to 1 meant that 5 grams of crack cocaine, for example, was treated as equivalent to 500 grams of powder cocaine for sentencing purposes.

“Today’s clemency action provides relief for individuals who received lengthy sentences based on discredited distinctions between crack and powder cocaine, as well as outdated sentencing enhancements for drug crimes,” Biden said.

“As Congress recognized through the Fair Sentencing Act and the First Step Act, it is time that we equalize these sentencing disparities,” Biden said.

With this latest action, Biden has now issued more individual pardons and commutations than any president in U.S. history.

“This action is an important step toward righting historic wrongs, correcting sentencing disparities, and providing deserving individuals the opportunity to return to their families and communities after spending far too much time behind bars,” Biden said.

“I am proud of my record on clemency and will continue to review additional commutations and pardons.”

The White House did not immediately release the names of those receiving commutations.

Biden Pardons Hunter, Death Row Inmates

In December 2024, Biden https://www.theepochtimes.com/epochtv/biden-commutes-sentences-for-nearly-1500-americans-and-pardons-39-in-the-largest-single-day-clemency-grant-capitol-report-5775675

he was pardoning 39 people and commuting the sentences of nearly 1,500 others who had been convicted of nonviolent crimes such as drug offenses. The president said at the time that these commutation recipients were placed in home confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic and “have successfully reintegrated into their families and communities and have shown that they deserve a second chance.”

In a separate https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/12/12/fact-sheet-president-biden-announces-clemency-for-nearly-1500-americans/

, the White House said many of those impacted by December’s pardons and commutation were parents, veterans, health care professionals, teachers, advocates, and engaged members of their communities who had “used their experiences in the criminal justice system to inspire and encourage others.”

Also in December, Biden https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/12/23/fact-sheet-president-biden-commutes-the-sentences-of-37-individuals-on-death-row/

he was commuting the sentences of 37 of the 40 individuals on death row, reclassifying their penalty to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Biden has advocated for an end to the death penalty at the federal level in the United States except for limited cases of terrorism and hate-motivated mass murder.

When he first took office, he imposed a https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/attorney-general-merrick-b-garland-imposes-moratorium-federal-executions-orders-review

on federal executions while the Justice Department reviewed policies and procedures surrounding the practice.

He commuted 37 sentences, leaving three federal inmates facing execution: 2013 Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev; Dylann Roof, who shot and killed nine people at a church in South Carolina in 2015; and Robert Bowers, who fatally shot 11 congregants at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue in 2018.

Earlier in December, Biden pardoned his son, https://www.theepochtimes.com/us/president-biden-pardons-his-son-hunter-biden-5769099

, who had been criminally convicted and was facing sentencing in two separate cases involving tax evasion and illegal possession of a firearm.

Biden is set to leave office on Jan. 20. His successor, President-elect Donald Trump, has https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/113708422880476904

to expand executions for federal inmates in order to “protect American families and children from violent rapists, murderers, and monsters” and restore law and order.

But did he free Ross Ulbricht, convicted of a non-violent offense with a clearly disproportionately long sentence? The hypocrisy is deafening.
