"Also, these kinds of violations don't generally get enforced unless the violations are egregious."
John Oliver actually considers the arbitrariness of the enforcement of regulations to be a defense of Chevron Deference (the recently overturned court doctrine which had effectively hamstrung a defendant from challenging a regulatory agency's interpretation of a law)... He later offers a plea to "elect people who value ... the Rule of Law". 🙄

I had a similar problem using Cashu.me (desktop browser) a couple days ago... though, it almost seemed like the problem was with the nostr:npub1kvaln6tm0re4d99q9e4ma788wpvnw0jzkz595cljtfgwhldd75xsj9tkzv mint wasn't responding or something. Regardless, the tokens seemed to be marked as both spent and pending within Cashu.me; and it wouldn't allow any transactions after that. I ended up Exporting Active Proofs and Reset the wallet, and all is well now; but, I feel like I should let someone know.
If this is the wrong place to let someone know, sorry for the longish explanation. Cashu.me doesn't seem to have a Nostr profile that I could find - which would be great for reporting bugs.
Could you help me test this? I'd like to learn two things:
1. Is the content unlocking after payment?
2. How was your payment experience? Was it smooth?
12 sats a test!

Resistance is futile.
Civilians of many other cities were targeted during WWII as well, so it was certainly standard practice. That so soon thereafter, the civilized world collectively declared targeting civilians a war crime by the 1949 Geneva Conventions suggests to me the would-have-been offending governments themselves simply operated without regard to any moral compass.
So, to me, classifying it simply as 'legal' (until 1949) would be a bit more accurate than 'just'.
"Who is in fact the Commander in Chief at the moment?"
Jon Stewart has an obvious bias against Trump - which is perfectly fine (I'm rather indifferent myself). So, when even he refers to our *current* President Biden as "our *former* President" without a hint of irony, you can't help but ask yourself "Who is in fact the Commander in Chief at the moment?"
It's true that Stewart doesn't mind making anyone the butt of a joke. And, in this clip, the current administration is in fact his target. It's just that his reference to Biden as "our former President" is clearly not part of the joke. It just comes across as just a genuine Freudian slip.

There will only be Land Value Tax - because they will figure land is way easier to assess taxes and confiscate. Plus, it would effectively conscript landlords to be the de facto tax collectors of their tenants.
Hmmm. I was unable to zap mike@mikehardcastle.com, but looks like mhardcastle@getalby.com worked fine. (I hope that's you 😉).
I'm using NWC with Cashu.me - which I believe is a very experimental wallet - so maybe that has something to do with it... I've been zapping plenty with it though for weeks now; and, this is the first issue I've run into... I've even been zapping from different clients. So, who knows? 🤷
PS. Any idea why I can't seem to send you a zap? The zap button on the note is disabled, and zapping your profile just didn't work.
An Orange Pill 🧡 Story:
Ignoring war or a dismal start to Uptober, I have an interesting tale to tell.
My wife nostr:npub1p90ddrdr0ss4t2slc9pl8amgt34mq2r9u3r26sumaw5s4k3v0w2qc3mq38 had coffee at a neighbours today. The neighbour is aware I’m in to Bitcoin so asked my wife some questions about it. Luckily my wife is extremely knowledgable and a very eloquent speaker about Bitcoin having listened to me every night go on about it for nearly 4 years.
The neighbour asked:
How can somebody make up a currency and just make money out of thin air. Not even the government can do that.
My wife started to explain that is exactly what governments do, but the neighbour interrupted her to say, “But we have the gold standard?”
Luckily my wife is well versed in history and Bitcoin. The conversation went well.
However, it blew the neighbours mind and she asked my wife to stop talking because it was too much for her to absorb, while acknowledging that everything was wife was saying was indeed correct.
She remembered the government printing money during the pandemic and also in 2008 after some prompting.
The pill has been taken, let's see how long before she is fully awake.
I'm always shocked when I hear there are sill people who think we're on a gold standard. Then, I remember being there myself once. It really only takes one quick look at the FEDs balance sheet (even when I first did more than 20 years ago) to realize how incompatible a gold standard would be.
Most definitely! I'm already using a combination of npub.cash and Cashu.me for my zappiong needs; and it's working great!
I experimented with adding Nutsack.me to that stack for NIP-60/61, but it didn't seem ready yet (or I just don't know what I'm doing).
Regardless, the more reckless options the better!
What if the October surprise is that this strike was done on purpose so Kamala can come in and say she helped negotiate a deal. Right now, she is polling at a record low for a Democrat amongst union workers. It's almost the perfect setup and would make sense why they had no urgency to push for a deal. Let it go on long enough where people feel some pain, then come in and play the hero. Her numbers amongst union workers would sky rocket right before the election. https://v.nostr.build/OQV0YRxGrlbefCWg.mp4
Whether Kamala likes it or not, the current administration party's candidate always inherits the credit/blame for the state of affairs left by that administration - even more so for Kamala, being an executive of that administration. And, as blowhard James Carville once famously popularized: "It's the economy, stupid".
The modal voter isn't going to care who caused or ended the strike. All they'll know is that the economy isn't working for them, and that the strike will have made it worse. So, while I hear what you're saying, it wouldn't make much sense to me for her or her supporters to have purposely orchestrated this strike. But, then again, I would never put anything past a politician in desperation mode.
Just an aside: for me, I'm pretty sure the new user that cant follow anyone was related to having created my own nsec offline. It seems many clients don't know what to do if you don't already have a follow list to add follows to.
LOL! Apparently, "reporting the facts" isn't in itself "a consistent narrative".
I mostly consume podcasts (or any other content when available) via Youtube (free version). I generally don't mind ads at the beginning as long as they aren't excessively long. What I find most annoying is a podcast being interrupted by a Youtube native ad followed by a direct sponsor spot. So, for channels I'm not familiar with, I'll just skip sponsor spots impulsively. If it's a channel i know is likely to also subject me to Youtube native ads, I'll most likely skip any sponsor spots guilt free. For the rest, as long as the sponsor spots on a channel are consistently reasonably short (and few), I'll likely put up with them - especially at the beginning.
PS. If there's a way to block Youtube native ads on my AppleTV, I haven't been motivated enough to figure out how, yet. It is what it is. 🤷
Maybe they're just mindlessly flowing to whatever is getting them the most engagement at the moment. i.e., this smells of audience capture. Whereas, capitulation would imply some sort of independent thought behind it.
