Who the hell thought this was acceptable UX, Europe?

It looks like the UX design in question raises some valid concerns! Poor user experience (UX) can lead to frustration, especially in critical areas like navigation and accessibility. In Europe, there's a push for better UX standards, particularly in public services and digital platforms.

User-centered design should prioritize clarity and ease of use, so it’s puzzling when these principles are ignored. It’s essential for organizations to consider user feedback and conduct usability testing to ensure that their designs meet users’ needs effectively.

Drink beer instead!

forcing UX in EU is the new normal

Bureaucrats...

Bureaucrats in Brussels.

It's the most infuriating

I’m visiting my family in Barcelona and saw these imposed bottle caps for the first time. Nobody complains, they just accept it. 🤷🏻‍♂️🙄

Nobody asked them if they wanted it, or how they feel about it either. It is learned helplessness. We in Europastan just accept what our kings and nobles tell us to.

Yep, that’s what’s so sad. They probably don’t think much of it, such a small thing. But I see it as a “frog in the hot water” kind of thing, if you know what I mean. So insidious!

Hey! Hey! The European bureaucrats worked very hard to get this life-changing thing implemented. You better respect their efforts, because that's what they get paid for. To come up with these amazing solutions!

And I bet it cost the people a shit tonn of money as well

To come.e up with the idea and implementation I mean not actual production

I know, it sucks. We've had these since this year and absolutely nobody asked for it.

For “climate actions”, anything goes.

Lol use a straw mate

They haven't banned those yet?

I've got a plausible theory how that happend:

In many European countries a lot of charities used to collect bottle tops and sell them for fiat - this is the best type of plastic, thick, unified in colour, can be easily recycled - so there is a market for it. So I think it's the big recycling companies just trying to extract more money out of their operations (many more bottle tops end up in their hands) under false pretends that it's all about saving the planet...

Wow, that's so cynical I am almost inclined to believe

Bureaucrats.

Noone else.

insidious incentive to never drink from a plastic bottle ever again

American’s are so moist. What do you want, a water bottle like a monster truck?!

You asked, we listened! To stay compliant with EU regulations, we’re excited to introduce our new line of SEEDOR SAFES, now featuring a TETHERED CAP. 😤

No more loose caps—let's save the planet! 🐢

Is it single-use? Please send me your seed phrases for recycling.

Nice one 😅🤣

people that have nothing to do and need to make up stuff so they feel useful or peole that profit from it.

It’s all about plastic waste reduction, keeping the cap with the bottle for recycling. ♻️

Someone will hopefully come up with a better economic design whilst achieving the same regulatory requirement and hygienic health standards.

Taiwan 🇹🇼 will soon incentivize manufacturers to make cap attached bottles too.

We were promised flying cars

First who will invent silent thrust will be the next multi billionaire.

Makes my blood boil..

They all suddenly started doing at the same time too.

It is not and I decided, I will not comply!

Here's more about this new EU directive

https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/dir/2019/904/oj#:~:text=Article%206-,Product%20requirements,-1.%C2%A0%C2%A0%C2%A0Member%20States

I‘d like to solve the puzzle: socialists

Don't get me started on how much this grinds my gears. The annoying "cap flips back while pouring" or making it much easier to screw the cap back on at an angle, not fully closing the bottle and everything spills in the refrigerator if you have to lay it down horizontally.

Best solution: just rip it off or if you're not strong enough you can twist it while opened until it comes off.

I hope i never run into the guy who thought this was a good idea. I don't think he ever uses a bottle.

Nobody. ‘Cause nobody was asked.

made me laugh 😄

It's not! And that's why I snap them out the moment I open the bottle. Arrest me!

A perfect example of a solution without a problem. One day, I’d like to research the whole story about who exactly is responsible for this, what the motivation was, and how all of this senselessness came about.

They said we'd have flying cars in 2024. This is what we got instead :-(

Don’t even get me started…..absolute joke!! It is very recent, coming to a a US store near you soon no doubt

You will own a glass water bottle and you will be happy. Even the TSA allows them.

Metal water bottles >>>> I previously owned a glass bottle, took it everywhere including to the bouldering gym. I put it down on the ground, someone accidentally knocked it over and it shattered. Never again.

I don't like the taste of metal. I shattered two glass bottles so far, just replaced them.

A silicon sleeve will save it from most accidents. I have several so I can rotate them in the dishwasher.

I have a different brand, but something like this: https://www.amazon.de/Wessper-Motiverende-Tijdmarkeringen-Herbruikbare-Transparante/dp/B0CP9J7CNG/

Same people who made the cookies rules for websites.

Sea levels have dropped slightly in Europe since this got implemented and we are seeing less severe storms

Haha :)

Every time I visit, I feel the same. The EU has lost the plot.

Par for the course, brought to you by the people who also brought you cookie popups on every fucking website on the internet.

The commies.

Who cares about UX if you can SAFE THE WORLD!!

Haha, I have been hating the change. Where I live we have working bottle recycling process.

When you buy a can or a bottle there is recycling price priced in the products. When you go to your local store to buy groceries, there are recycling machines you can return your bottles and cans. It will pay you money for it. ( 10 - 20snt) per bottle.

We dont have any problems with bottles or bottle caps laying around cities.

Eu wants to change things around bottle recycling to different model. Basically making things worse.

yeah, the german and dutch glass/metal recycling systems are awesome, this shit is retarded

This is ALMOST as idiotic as the paper straws Dicktator Castro gave to Canada

It's on everything... Infuriating.

I am so sick of this - if I have a knife around I cut this shit right off 😤

Same. 😂

the fucking apparatchiks did

what i hate the most about it is that it guarantees you are gonna injest microplastics even more than before since they are always tear-open

That sounds the opposite of "guaranteed"

I think what's actually guaranteed is that effect will be outweighed by driving some number of sales from plastic bottles to glass

If you were telling yourself using plastic bottles was magically OK before at least the design smartly avoided 2 molecules of plastic ingestion, you were wrong and the reality is any 2 beverage bottle designs made of plastic must both be completely dangerous bullshit

Can't fucking believe this is what you people pick as a topic for a thread at times like these

Just buy a darn metal bottle and abandon plastics altogether.

Worse is if you do accidentally break it, the little sticks that used to hold it on are sharp and poke you every time you screw the lid back on.

Are you seriously complaining about the fucking lid being attached to your plastic bottle you childish shithead? Grow up

I just tear them of, simple solution.

I h8 is so much...Deffo we going to save planet with this xd

The newer ones are better, as the lid is designed to rest at 180° rather than 90°

You can't be trusted not to litter the cap.

They don’t care about acceptable. Only about creating ever more stupid rules to justify their own existence and virtue signaling! 🫠

Oh, what might have been. 🤣

Nobody I know wanted this. Nobody ever mentioned bottle caps we had a bottle cap littering problem. There were no discussions, nothing about it in the news. It just started appearing on coke bottles then everywhere else. Now it is the new normal and if you fucking hate it, you are gaslit into thinking this is a reasonable new policy that was apparently very important.

classic statist vs. free market example.

EXACTLY

It's for the greater good!

I hate that plastic bags of food now have zip locks on them them and are so shitty that they don't even work. Who tf comes up with these dumb ideas? 🤦‍♂️

I see people naming this cap “Thunberg”, in reference to Greta Thunberg. That after all the mimimi. The only thing that she accomplished was the EU to came out with this stupid bottle cap.

Dude, the first time I saw that bs here in Eastern Europe I about lost my shit trying to tear that damn thing off. Hate those damn things. Like seriously, we’re adults. Keep track of the cap, if you can’t, get a damn sippy cup.

The bacteria. The bacteria’s input weighed heavily in the UX design. Very powerful lobby group.

Yeah, I live here. It sucks. 😕

I think only bureaucrats was liking it. Many engineers and ux people were opposing it but it was low hanging fruit from a list of stupid stuff

Annoying as heck, but just tear them off!

And it is all because of nonsense regulations

Separate Industry from the state. STOP REGULATIONS!

Dumbest move ever. I was there last year and saw that, and I thought the same thing... so the claim is that they don't want you to lose the bottle cap in the ocean and wreck the planet. 🤦‍♂️

Who still uses plastic bottles anyway XD

The stupidification and infantilization of the population is strong here.

Humiliation ritual

Our beloved and voted rulers 😓

National hobby here in Spain: break the Damm thing and drink safely 😅

water is ok, no stains on your closes. try yoghurt or juice.

Wtf

IQ testing

Kinda useful, so you don’t need to hold the cap while drinking 🤷‍♂️

Try it, you won’t agree with yourself

Have tried 👍

No it’s completely retarded. You need to tear it off to have a drink.

a green left bureaucrat.

Definitely the European State

like all things EU - unelected career bureaucrats

just wait until you can flip the cap onto the other side

guess... some bureaucrat in the European Union administration 😟

Yes, they are paid.

No, they do not pay taxes (most of them... maybe all of them, who knows...)

A patent owner has made a lot of money with it

It just signals and punishes. The EU wants to show the environmentalist hippie students that it cares. They want your vote! On the other hand, they want to punish the people! Remember the guy who threw away his plastic bottle and littered the environment? We got you guys, the EU is here to save you and punish those people!

But the truth is that it is just signalling. (And a huge waste of resources too)

Here are the official OECD figures on plastic:

Only 5% of all plastic entering the environment comes from littering.

EU countries have one of the lowest rates of waste management and littering.

It does not help the environment, it makes production more resource intensive, it annoys people. But hey, we did something!
