True, but I think it’s another general consequence of high time preference. They wouldn’t get away with it if the market had proper incentives and everything wasn’t purchased with debt. I know this is iffy when it comes to failure modes, but the example with car enshrines and things would’ve been less obvious to people and wouldn’t have hit home. I know a lot of people who hate modern washing machines 🤣

It definitely did! We did comfort+ because there was a super cheap upgrade, flight was shorter than planned (had a tail wind), got off the plane super fast, and the Uber got there the very second we reached the loading area.

The we’re trying to make up for the shit show we had on the way down there.

Blogstack.io but it showed up on Habla immediately and I might use that one next time

Never had a substack, but I think the combo of #nostr and long form writing is going to get me over the hump. Not having to separate my networks or my login is actually a huge improvement, and makes the process increasingly seamless.

I'm really loving it 👏🏻

When AI Goes Insane...

(will be talking more about this on the next episode of AI Unchained)

Omg I’m having a heart attack looking at it 😂

Lol this is so fucking dumb. There are SO many “solutions chasing problems” in AI right now. I’ve tried out so many completely useless feeling products recently that are SO excited that they have AI in their product now.

The number of times I’ve been sold on how great it is that AI can write some bullshit for me is incredible. When that’s the one thing I don’t want it to do. When I’m writing I’m doing it purposefully, why would I want a bullshit generator if I don’t have an office job that’s *literally* bullshit?

An encrypted backup of the multisig wallet configuration doesn’t let you steal the coins, it isn’t your key, it’s the wallet generated *from* those keys. The problem with multisig is you could generate a near infinite number of xpubs from the same 3 keys, so if you don’t save it properly, it’s kinda like a fourth key.

Your wallet configuration is critical, but doesn’t spend your funds. A saved backup attached to an account is a great feature one might expect with a mobile wallet service.

Extracting the actual seed from a hardware wallet is a night and day difference. The whole point of a hardware wallet is to have your keys never leave the device. Ledger has built a hot wallet feature into their cold storage product. It’s beyond stupid and a huge security vulnerability.

Some people think AI and AI chat bots are all hype. They couldn’t be more wrong.

Thousands of tasks can now be automated or at the very least done significantly faster with much less effort and by fewer people.

Unlike humans, AI systems don’t get tired, don’t take vacations, and don’t single task. They can access vast amounts of data quickly and find the parts that matter. Reporting, presenting, what used to take hours now takes seconds. Combined with other forms of data connected by plugins, it’s much easier to surface the right data.

Unlike humans, once trained, AI systems don’t require constant retraining. They scale much faster and cheaper beyond anything a traditional human workforce can accomplish.

Which fields are impacted? No, the better question is which fields AREN’T impacted. Data work, customer service, manufacturing, warehousing, healthcare, marketing, transportation, finance, HR, retail, design, development, are just the tip of the iceberg.

AI touches everything, and we are only in the early stages. My guess is there won’t be a single thing we do that is not somehow impacted by AI. At some point, anything you do, touch and experience will have had an AI play a role in making it happen.

We are in a major shift in the way things are done, on a much grander scale than the industrial revolution.

The next 2-3 years will be super interesting to say the least. If the smart phone could change the world in a fairly short period of time, it’s hard too imagine what AI will do for us in the same timeframe. The world may not be recognizable a decade from now, even though every fiber of your being may deny it.

All of this 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻

Hold up, is that a used S9 ASIC mining bitcoin while converted into a space heater inside a sexy nostr:npub1lrjgpa9m2dl6esdah5pq7m005ymwh4glq4aet76q2zlz2f83esfsa2zvrj printed case, or is that just some wife-approved modern art? The correct answer is both!

I finally finished my build using nostr:npub1rxysxnjkhrmqd3ey73dp9n5y5yvyzcs64acc9g0k2epcpwwyya4spvhnp8's easy-to-follow tutorial video. This miner/heater has been up and running on the #braiins pool for about a week, so it's almost time to move him over to my pre-coiner neighbor's house, where he has a cold basement and excess solar energy that he's presently selling back to the power company for $0.03/kWh. We're going to turn that cheap energy into his first sats! Sometimes an orange pill looks like a #iowa #hawkeye themed S9 space heater.

Now I need to build another one for myself. What should the next heater theme be?

P.S. I still blame nostr:npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev for starting me down this miner/heater rabbit hole. Thanks a bunch, jerk. 🤣🧡⚡️

You are welcome! 😘😂

nostr:npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev Guy, I loved your show with Booth on AI. Like you, I want to dive deep and will follow new episodes closely. As a nomad, I need mobile hardware for compute. Maybe you can make an episode about the hardware requirements and what sort of Laptop would do the trick for the nomadic kind. I am sure there are others like me.

That’s a great idea actually! I’m building a computer that’s just as decked out as I can get currently, but I think as the space develops there will be a much clearer direction and choice of hardware that’s still a bit vague right now. But with Mojo (new language) and new models of chips that will be AI optimized, there will be a lot to unpack with hardware choices.

I think they’ve been running the airlines through the banking system so every time a bank is insolvent a flight gets canceled.

I think that means we are fucked 🤣

In 3-5 years I think all the most important and useful AI tools will be free.

Same. I didn’t use it very much anymore, but getting it clean ASAP. I always knew trusting someone so focused on shitcoins was a terrible idea, but I hadn’t thought they’d be THIS stupid nostr:note1hm60paxnp8326f5vg6x977tef9pclul5lrd05xetsgysutddkk4qhz5vvk

I questioned whether I'd post on Twitter at all honestly. But there's still a bunch of people over there that deserve a "thank you" that wouldn't see it on Nostr

Dude, I’m talking *about* wokism. Woke IS racism. And I’m specifically referring to the “White Fragility” and explicit segregation from that group and stating the fact that this has been the dominant cultural force and has been politically coopted. As well as the fact that it’s destructive and hateful.

Funny enough, your immediate equating racism with only a particular racial dynamic (ie. Racism can only against black people) is actually an indication of just deeply rooted the ideology is. They’ve managed to hide the painfully obvious and comical irony that racism *cannot* be race specific.

I think you are both jumping to conclusions and not reading my actual posts. Move slower & be less reactionary. I could apply those principles more often myself.

With the wrong philosophy and values, there is no problem too small that you won't manage to completely screw up.

With the right philosophy and values, there is no problem too large that you can't overcome.

Just had a thought - Imagine an AI ChatGPT-ish running inside a video game that is designed to act like 1000s of unique NPCs. They all have a personality and you can interact with them and convince them to help you, or make them angry, etc. they could have their own goals or things that you have to do with them and you have to change how you interact based on actually getting to know them.

I definitely wouldn’t have the time to play this game, lol, but it sounds like there is fascinating potential here to make games insanely dynamic, actually have nuanced *social* conflicts and challenges (no more just endlessly killing NPCs), and without any explicit path, but still maintaining an overall structure and narrative. Even crazier, it would involve SO much less work for the developers. Basically describe important characters, what important information they’re know, or object they have, and then let the AI do the rest. 🤔

Lol, you need to generate boobs? But of course.

More seriously though, Stable Diffusion is an open source image generation tool that has rather incredible capabilities. It takes quite a bit to get the hang of the many settings and customization techniques, but it’s super powerful once you get the hang of it. You can find all sorts of custom trained models on huggingface.io and civit.ai.

MidJourney is a paid option that generates cooler out-of-the-box images and better understands the context you are asking for, SD is much less intuitive for prompting and more bullet point / listing details oriented. MidJourney has some sort of prompting mechanism so it better grasps what you *mean,* so it’ll give you what you are looking for better. You’ll need to explore a lot of customization tools and prompting extensions with SD to fine tune, but you can eventually produce comparable images. I use MidJourney for ideation and compositing a lot, and then Stable Diffusion to narrow down, edit, and create a specific look or concept.

If you just want to generate boobs though, you can download Stable Diffusion, grab a simple model for porn and go to town 😂. Civit.ai specifically just has all kinds of porn, it’s ridiculous - literally like 2:1 porn:normal stuff lately🤦🏻‍♂️. Basically all the paid and public tools are restricted, but SD can generate whatever and is run locally.

If you own a record player, but don't get "Everyone's a Scammer" on vinyl... then what value does your record player provide *really*? 🤔

Second, yes we should be making that judgement as engineers, just as everyone who worked on it has always done, or the system literally could never have worked. It’s not a judgement of “which transactions should be allowed or which people should have access,” which is the principle you seem to *want* to apply, but doesn’t. It’s about what *kind of data* is allowed, which cannot be avoided.

Again, you seem to be sacrificing the extremely unambiguous concerns of security and design of an engineered, open protocol & network, for abstract libertarian principles that cannot apply unless the system works in the first place.

You are falsely equating the conversation with censorship or specific ideas or specific people, when that isn’t what it is, anymore than the blocksize is a “censorship” of all the people who want to use Bitcoin but can’t fit their transactions in.

There are engineering realities that we can’t hand wave away with moral declarations.

I’d bet Thomas Massie has

I haven’t done the math but I doubt it, however at the pace it’s starting and the degree of leverage/insolvency with much less runway for others to buy up the liquidity, (demand & trust falling fast) it very likely will surpass it.
