Just had a thought - Imagine an AI ChatGPT-ish running inside a video game that is designed to act like 1000s of unique NPCs. They all have a personality and you can interact with them and convince them to help you, or make them angry, etc. they could have their own goals or things that you have to do with them and you have to change how you interact based on actually getting to know them.

I definitely wouldn’t have the time to play this game, lol, but it sounds like there is fascinating potential here to make games insanely dynamic, actually have nuanced *social* conflicts and challenges (no more just endlessly killing NPCs), and without any explicit path, but still maintaining an overall structure and narrative. Even crazier, it would involve SO much less work for the developers. Basically describe important characters, what important information they’re know, or object they have, and then let the AI do the rest. šŸ¤”

Exactly

Came here to say this. Last season.

Pretty sure that's why elder scrolls is taking so long šŸ˜…

ā€œOk guys have you seen this AI stuff?… We’re gonna have to scrap everything you’ve done so far with scripting and all the recording, animation, dialogue, actions, and everything for the endless number of side characters and NPCs, and I need you to figure out how to get ChatGPT into the game to play each of the characters so they feel real and dynamic. We good? Awesome, get on it.ā€

& each time you play, or each game anyone plays, could be very unique experience

This seems inevitable.

idea reminds me of Spelunky, old style side scroller. however game is procedual generated, so each game is entire new level design. your idea is that, at massive new experience.

Prediction: less than a year away.

There is also possibility for dateing-simulator for beginners and unconfidents and everyone.

It could include all kinds of date, blind date, speed date, double date, married couples date...

You naughty 🤣

Someone has done this already in Skyrim. It’s a little slow. But works really well. Only a matter of time till all NPCs are running this way in games.

Yeah, it would be, so much more rewarding to keep on killing the NPCs recklessly if they have feelings and goals. :P

🤣

Would be fun to have that in the oldschool Morrowind šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£

I can see it.

You know that it sounds like the start of a Black Mirror episode though right?

I’d play that game

People would literally lose their minds in that world. šŸ”„šŸ«£

Yeah game companies are already integrating LLMs into their flow and the main feature being worked on right now is high fidelity NPCs

I wrote a little bit about this. It’s going to happen on a grander scale too. IRL.

Imagine the future NPCs that will run TSA checkpoints, security, etc. world is gonna get hella retarded

The great benefit, but then also incredibly stupid consequence of this might be as follows:

Right now we have mountains of horrible, completely useless paperwork, bureaucracy & box checking political bullshit approval.

The benefit is that AI will likely take over this ā€œsectorā€ completely. Removing the need for the near half of the ā€œeconomyā€ which is engaged in entirely useless work. These areas will likely become dominated by AI systems producing the paperwork and bureaucratic compliance, and then other AI systems pointlessly checking and going through the bullshit stack.

The big problem is that this releases ungodly amounts of labor that now has to deal with the fiat imbalance that refuses to correct to the new reality. Which means this might actually open the door to sustain exponentially MORE bullshit work and bureaucracy. The room for politicians to invent nonsense that we are all forced to do might expand rapidly as these pointless multi-hour jobs turn into 1 minute jobs.

Fiat needs to die faster

Don’t worry Guy, TPTB has taken care of that ā€œungodly amounts of labourā€ problem with the ā€˜vaccine’.

As far as I see it, AI is a tool for doing tasks to aid in development of projects. Like calculators were for math... But there are people that see it as some religious-like next evolutionary step in changing the human experience to create something in different akin to the Ubermensch. The frankenstien complex. I think it can be a cool tool, that will definitely be used to do further harm to humanity in the quest to become "homo deus".

also, wouldn't completely AI generated games be the matrix?

Not necessary that the game itself is 100% AI generated. You can create a functional narrative. Like a movie that tells the same character story but has new scenes and a different path to reaching the conclusion every time.

However, regarding a game that IS 100% AI generated… yeah it would kinda be the matrix šŸ˜…šŸ˜‚

I have heard that rimworld is pretty fun. Uses Ai to taylor the game and characters. Sounds cool on that aspect, I could imagine if oblivion, fallout, or wildlands was like that, that would be pretty cool.

Would there not be some lost incentives? How would they sell a new game if there was infinite replayability

Indeed. There was a similar discussion on Airchat a few days ago: https://www.getairchat.com/naval/aiexploration (see the NPC section)

As long as Asimov’s Laws were followed in programming even games. eg Anger usually escalates. But who knows where this goes.

Totally sounds awesome and would be a great sandbox to experiment with a.i. in general.

This sounds like actual real life.

You're not the first one who had this idea ;-)
