I’ve had endo before I went plant-based. I don’t have a hormonal imbalance, I have a uterus that bleeds internally so they have to stop my menstrual cycle artificially with hormones.

However, I am slowly transitioning into adding humane sources of animal protein and fats into my diet to slow down inflammatory responses. It’s a process though. If I went straight for a steak tonight, I would be sick to my stomach for a week 🤢

Red meat has been linked to increased estrogen levels which can stimulate endometrial growth and clotting so I have been advised to avoid it and try leaner proteins like fish and poultry. Unfortunately, soy does the same thing for endo as red meat…that’s why I don’t think it’s gonna be sustainable to maintain the plant-based route anymore 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, apex predators with empathy is a pretty difficult combination. I’ve struggled with it in my life too. In the end I had a personal realization the natural world is literally kill or be killed and predators don’t think twice about prey at any trophic level.

Realistically there is a massive amount of life lost in agriculture too and that fact isn’t lost on me either. There is no way around it, for us to live - other creatures must die. And I think being healthy and accepting that other creatures must die is an easier and more honest route than trying to avoid the inevitable while still contributing to the mass death of “other” creatures like insects, rodents, rabbits etc. So much life is eradicated in growing the crops that sustain vegans and vegetarians too. So what’s the point?

I know their (your) hearts are in the right place but there is a lot of death involved in plant-based calories too.

Yeah. I have to do a whole diet change too, but I have endometriosis so they wanted to stop the internal bleeding ASAP so they have to adjust my hormones so I’m not menstruating.

The diet change is gonna be a lot slower because I’m going from 10 years of 100% plant-based (moral reasons/clearly not health) to “humane vegetarianism” (eggs and dairy from local farmer) first and then see what I can do as far as ethically-sourced animal protein. I will probably start with seafood 🤷‍♀️

Even if it’s from a local rancher, something in my body gets so grossed out at the idea of chewing meat still. I do think animal proteins are an important part of a healthy diet, I just sacrificed health for a bleeding heart syndrome for a while and it’s gonna be a process.
