It will be a used Pixel 6a to try it out. Right now I still use an iphone 8 and a Samsung Android without SIM for wallets and where my identity is not needed, a "semi-private" normie phone how I call it.

Google designs the Tensor chips. Samsung is merely the foundry partner that manufacturers them for Google. Switching to TSMC is not a guarantee for better performance as the fundamental design is flawed.

The Qualcomm snapdragon 8 gen3 is a superior chip that would better serve a GrapheneOS phone.

Tbh I'm okay using some of my old devices in a limited way (e.g. ipad for drawing) so long as my data remains local. The main thing is not to rely on Apple and definitely don't buy any *new* hardware from them.

For mobile I've been using Pixel + GrapheneOS for a couple of years now, and my main laptop is Linux.

I've been on NOSTR for over a year now and in bitcoin for about 4 years. As a non techie I've tried everything that some of the plebs here talk about. The problem is that I don't understand what this stuff does. Im running my own start9 server, with my personal nostr relay but for some reason it doesn't work. I'm running amber on my burner pixel with grapheneos but I don't know what it does. I'm also running a relay on my pixel with citrine. I don't have a clue what any of this stuff does. All I know how to do is buy and hold btc in a block stream jade and ledger wallets. Im trying to learn it but there's so much here that its overwhelming. I'm semi retired and have plenty of time but for most people that are not where I am I can see how all this would be extremely difficult.

GrapheneOS -- and any custom ROM for that matter -- are way, way, way outside the capabilities of a "regular" user to install. That's not on the developers of GrapheneOS. It's a great project!

Choice is great, but the only way to bring privacy and security to the masses is to make it the default. Google didn't pay Apple billions to keep it the default on Mac for no reason after all.

Running GrapheneOS on Pixel phone might reduce your worries.

If you are flashing GrapheneOS yourself, I don't see how it matters (unless you are afraid of targetted attacks).

None of the two are acceptable. You are lucky that have a Pixel. Stick GrapheneOS on it and you have one of the most private systems possible. Then learn how to use that apps and download them in a privacy conscious way.
