So, in Obsidian, my notes would randomly be completely empty. I'd be working on my TODO list, or my current episode's project file with all my links and writing. Then i'd go away from the app to find something, come back, and the entire note is completely empty.

I would have to close the note, open something else, close that, then reopen the original. It would often take like 3-5 seconds, but it would usually come back. Sometimes though I'd have to do this multiple times.

I tried SO many things... today however, I realized i've been using iCloud drive to host all my notes so i could work from the same list on every device without having to subscribe to syncing services.

I was just moving stuff in the file system and I saw the little "cloud" icon next to the Obsidian folder, showing that the content wasn't synced to this device — and it hit me, iCloud is auto removing the files after there is a timeout and only when i refresh it did Obsidian "request" the file again and so it would get reloaded.

Opened Obsidian and my TODO list was blank again, a common occurrence. I clicked on the cloud icon in the finder to download the folder locally, and it popped up almost instantly. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

The more qubits you add to build larger and larger quantum states, the harder it is to protect the system from heat, noise, cosmic rays. In the presence of noise the quantum state becomes entangled with the environment and then it quickly collapses into its eigenstates which we call decoherence (it behaves classically again).

To maintain the quantum state, you need many more qubits to handle and repair errors and decoherences. They distinguish physical and logical qubits in these cases.

Physical qubits are used for error correction, where the logical qubits are the number of effective qubits you can reliably use for computation.

You may need a million qubits for 1000 logical qubits, but this tech could improve. To break bitcoin or simulate black holes, you need about 7000 logical qubits, which may be 7 to 10 million physical qubits, which is really hard .

The craziest #physics things I learned that I can’t get out of my head is Wigner’s Classification. In some sense the way particles can be transformed in spacetime define the different types of particles that can exist.

The mathy way of saying this that “irreducible representations of the poincaré group” directly result in the quantum information we can observe and in some sense, the type of particle.

One piece of information about a particle we can know is something called spin. Spin can be understood as the angular momentum of an individual particle. Different types of particles have different spins. Light has integer spin (bosons) and matter has half integer spin (fermions).

Different spins changes the way particles behave. Integer spin particles can stack up on each other and can occupy the same quantum state (light), have integer spin particles can’t occupy the same state (fermi exclusion principle, fermions, get it?)

So just due to the way these particles infinitesimally transform in spacetime (poincaré group) defines the types of particles that exist. Pretty fuckin wild.
