You have options with voice and sms for 59$/year, but I use the data only version, mostly for travelling.

If Bitcoin reach this until end of 2024 I pay you a plane ticket to come have a drink with my in the garden of my new house.

nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll coming through with the tech support! If you looking for an easy out the box bitcoin node please consider nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll

I use Umbrel and was considering Start9 for a new node but my main concern would not be solved with Start9, that apps updates are always delayed, like BTCPay and Lnbits are often weeks if not months late on both OS.

For now I went the all manual CLI way but I see its limitation as well, each new app install takes hours (first time), you must triple check everthing, understand everything, you face multiple issues to solve by yourself or github/community support and anything could break of you update the slightliest component in your system. I like to learn but I don't always have the time to do it, and maintenant it right.

Could be, but then each relay would be a kind of tld or how would ypu coordinate between relay? This might better be on the Bitcoin blockchain, similar to ENS on ethereum but then each registery, redirect, A CNAME... will be an on chain transaction, so decentralized name for rich only.

Yeah, while traveling with a prepaid esim for data I killed 3GB of data by scrolling nostr with Amethyst in about 30min. I set to download pictures and gif on demand and don't auto play over sim data but then the experience is super limited. I guess it's not just Amethyst but all nostr client, a kind of middle man compression service (self hosted) could help, any other ideas?

If you don't have enough inbound capacity, you must either rebalance a channel by sending out sats to another node (another wallet), possibly swapping to on-chain or you must ask another node to open a new channel to your node with enough inbound capacity. Zeus, Phoenix, Breez and Blixt use various technics and services to automarically open this new channel but you habe to pay for the on-chain transaction + some fees (usually). Depending how the mempool is busy, these on-chain transactions can cost 2000-3000 sats or 30'000-50'000 sats.

Then you risk that a channel open for a 21 sats zap when fees are tens of thousands or more to open the channel. I prefer to keep it manual.

I think at this point that we can stop using the argument of too big to fail, everyone use it so it's safe, they are large entities we can trust them (oops: MtGox, eBTC, FTX, Celsius, Credit Suisse bank!).

Anyone can decide which mint use and trust for a few sats of change. Use mint of a dev you like, a big company or associations, someone met at a local meetup, a friends, family or your own.

I respect that you want to stay as close as possible to the core Bitcoin experience and ecosystem, in the beggining Lightning was rejected as not real bitcoins, now only a few purist would argue that Lightning should not be used and everytjng must stay on-chain, maybe cashu will become part of the Bitcoin ecosystem and accepted by the majority for some use cases or maybe a better solution will be found on Lightning that avoid larger fee to manage liquidity before accepting your first 21 sats as zap without relying on a couple of big centralized entities.

A cashu mint can create sats without locking actual Bitcoin (Fake Wallet https://github.com/cashubtc/nutshell/blob/f32099bce7ecca54338ebc1a551883fbdb883af2/cashu/lightning/fake.py#L31). So the zaps you receive may or may not be real, i.e. convertible to Lightning sats. So you should either zap those sats onwards, or withdraw to a real wallet asap (claim from the mint).

It this thing takes on and there will be lots and lots of such (potentially fake) sats on Nostr, this will inflate Bitcoin supply and damage it's reputation when many sats turn out unclaimable.

TLDR I hate this shitcoinery.

How can you be sure that the sats in your WoS or Alby wallet are real before you spend them? How can you be sure that you will be able to spend your BTC on a centralized exchange tomorrow?

Same with mint, you are not sure, except you are not expected to keep any valuable amount on a mint, once you have 5000, 10000, 50'000sats on a mint, transfer it to Phoenix, Breez, Zeus or your full node with lightning, then when you have 100'000, 500'000, 1Msats on Lightning that you don't need for spending, swap it on-chain on a cold storage with key properly secured.

It's just a matter of habits and education.

If you have a gun in your hand while someone threating you, chances are much high that you get shot. If you have no weapon, they might rob your cash but it's better than behind dead.

I would love to support a Swiss company vs a US one but no limit order, higher fee and longer bank transfer time were only acceptable because it was non-KYC, now I don't see the point to make such compromise.
