GrapheneOS is great, nothing like the ROMs of the olden days.

Linux is also great. I'd recommend buying something cheap or bringing an old computer back to life to take away any risk of losing your files.

Both are more resource friendly because they are missing bloatware and spying. I posted a talk earlier today about the war on general purpose computing you control, Linux and GrapheneOS are bringing it back.

Ubuntu isn't that great. For a beginner Linux Mint is a better option IMHO. Mahdood is running it I believe.

Depending on how good the hardware is Fedora is pretty nice too. I run it on my gaming rig.

Since it has come up twice, obsidian is a great notes app. The note files are plain markdown making them portable and editable in any editor, if it were to go away you can't lose your data.

There is a paid plan where they sync inside the app for you. OR, you can use ANY file sync you want to keep your phone and pc in sync. You will know exactly where your files are and they are plain text so no risks of weird binary files getting corrupted or weird file locks.

In the mean time I'm just looking for the exact mechanisms and "brands" responsible for stopping 8K availability.

They've done this targeted gaslighting towards people who pay attention to specs for years:

* Give consumers 2160p with 3K horizontal resolution and call it 4K based on pretending it has 4,000 horizontal pixels when it doesn't and that wasn't the direction we counted pixels in

* Prop up retarded camera prices and phone upgrade cycles by taking insanely long to add this 3K to phone cameras that have more than capable sensors and chips

* Upon finally launching 3K phone cameras, start them at 30FPS while film is typically 24FPS and that's a bigger % difference than the difference between 3680 and 4000/4096

* Ignore the difference between 24 and 30, or pretend it's smaller than the difference between 3680 and 4000, pretending phones can't handle true 4K, to deny this is about propping up insane camera prices and baiting people into yearly phone upgrades

* Ignore the difference between 3680 and 4000, saying 2160p is 4K

* To take the gaslighting to absolutely insane levels, double the 3K / fake 4K framerate to 60FPS in most flagship phones while still not offering true 4K, even at a mere 24FPS, which would now require less than half as powerful of a chip

* Just to remind people who actually care about shit how alone and outnumbered by bloodthirsty extinction-causing consumerists they are, repeat the last few steps with 7K/8K

And now they've released chat bots that pretend to offer un-enshittification of search engines, but now they're enshittifying like search engines so I can't even find out what companies are actually doing what to for example block the third party Open Camera app from doing more than 4K on my phone where the first party app goes up to 4320p "7K" (which it calls "8K").

It feels like there's not even a point continuing in this world, every time I want to make a YouTube video this adds so much fucking planning difficulty because in order to stop YouTube from lying to my viewers about the resolution of my videos, I have to pick between using a format I can't get footage for, or gimping the resolution down to 2160p or even lower.

I don't even own any displays that go up to 2160p, let alone 4320p, but I've owned cameras with sensors and chips more than capable of handling true 8K width for a while now so why the fuck does this have to be so hard instead of just me being able to get footage at full resolution.

It's especially annoying because true 8K is basically the final resolution for screen-based content. Based on HUMAN EYES, I don't think I will ever fucking need a 16K camera if I'm not making footage for VR goggles. It would be nice for video stabilization and cropping and stuff, but not needed. I only need an 8K camera so it's not so fucking hard to stop YouTube from lying to my viewers if I try to make videos that can last for the foreseeable future on all screen sizes (or screen-sized viewing in VR goggles, people do that too I guess).

This type of shit is why I can't learn to code btw - THE ENTIRE TECH INDUSTRY IS DESIGNED TO USE MY ATTENTION TO DETAIL TO FUCK WITH MY HEAD AND STALL ME FOR INSANE AMOUNTS OF TIME ON VERY SMALL THINGS AND NO ONE GIVES A FUCK. So if I stay stuck on this point forever, I guess it's because it seems like such a clear, directly explainable start-to-finish, clear cut, laid out, right in front of you way to show people what I'm talking about.

The military industrial complex fucks the world by stopping people like me from being productive. Instead of being an angry asshole who hurts everyone around me all the time, I would probably be seen as a hero if I was allowed to work. I'd still hate myself, but at least I wouldn't hate what every day is like. And one of the ways they do this is by understanding the psychology of what drives people who try to do the best work they can, and how to make people not give a fuck about that work or those people.

I don't care how egotistical I sound for saying this, you don't understand what I could do for the world if I could fucking code. You don't understand the difference between the world we have in current year, and the world we would have if society didn't allow good people to be pushed out of the computer industry in the early days, before spending decades methodically using psychological knowledge to engineer everything about the tech industry to delay and block any work by better people.

I think this is probably why Terry Davis was so fucked up mentally. He was there early enough to learn to code when it was still possible for someone like this, but then they spent his entire life fucking with him and doing everything they could to make his work meaningless or inject flaws he would have to waste his life dealing with before finally being recognized after his death.

Thanks to Terry Davis I at least have some chance of learning to code, but not so far. I can at least make videos. Not as useful as code, but whatever. Eventually I get through this and something gets made. I resorted to fucking drawing diagrams for my last video because at least I can draw in true 8K. And I had to make 2 different versions, a YouTube version and a nostr version, because I wanted that bird footage at the end but it was only 2160p, so it could fill the screen on the nostr version (8K doesn't really work on nostr) but it couldn't fill the screen on the 8K YouTube version and neither could anything my phone is capable of filming, apparently.

It would have saved hours of time to just be able to make one fucking version of the video and have YouTube not lie about the resolution, or have it be wide enough to stop YouTube's label from being a lie.

I clearly can't buy another phone as long as someone in the supply line is propping up camera company partners by blocking me from using my full camera sensor. But who am I supposed to put pressure on in the mean time? Obviously the phone companies, Qualcomm, MediaTek, and the chip fabs Qualcomm and MediaTek use, but in what order? Who took what actual steps to block this functionality?

The humans with the answers don't want to answer me, and they don't want to let tools like a search engine or a chat bot be available to the public with enough functionality to help find the answers. But if that's the case, fuck it, what else am I supposed to do but wait until either people give a fuck or I die?
