#Kennedy24
It's exciting the have a third party candidate who is doing so well. I have never seen a real 3-way presidential race before.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=da3dlkXzXrs
#Biden is afraid to even acknowledge Kennedy's campaign. He wouldn't want to draw any attention to policy differences. π
#Kennedy wouldn't be sending weapons to Israel, that's for sure.
#USPOL
At least 2019, maybe 2018?
Well, section 702 (big spying powers which have been abused by the FBI hundreds of thousands of times) was renewed. It failed the first three times, but when it became a 2-year renewal instead of 5 years, some people caved.

It was nice to see there was at least some resistance. Maybe next time... π«€
*Technically it was just passed by the house, but there's little question about it passing in the senate or getting signed by the president.

If I were a dominant search engine and there were an up and commer who was a threat to my dominance, I'd try to find a polarizing issue about them and get people talking about it and sharing it on social media. Controversies spread like wildfire! It's an easy win.
I'd also be careful to make sure none of it was tied to me and if that were even in jeopardy, I'd cut off the "partner" who was supposedly doing this behind my back.
It's also important that it come from actual humans who are forming their own opinion... you know, based on the things that they're being pointed to by vauge insinuations.
I feel like I had a real missed opportunity by not being #evil. I think I'd be pretty good at it. π
I'm pretty okay with Amazon killing 3rd party apps from Alexa. Hopefully next they'll start chargimg people to ise Alexa and then we can reach the final phase where they kill off the Alexa entirely.
#privacy Ditch #BigTech
This is about content creators. Making hardware is hard, but maybe find funding elsewhere like https://geyser.fund/ or opencollective.org
Thanks for the reply & suggestions. β€οΈ
Simple. They want to stop #exploits from people who are not #Google.
And that's better than using Google and NOT using #GrapheneOS.
I've abandoned Google myself, but I understand the logic. Most of them are just part way through their journey to ditch big tech. I want to help them, and encourage them to keep going. π«
We're excited to announce a new initiative to get creators and journalists on to Nostr. This is a project organized by nos.social with nostr:npub12vkcxr0luzwp8e673v29eqjhrr7p9vqq8asav85swaepclllj09sylpugg, nostr:npub1w0rthyjyp2f5gful0gm2500pwyxfrx93a85289xdz0sd6hyef33sh2cu4x, nostr:npub13myx4j0pp9uenpjjq68wdvqzywuwxfj64welu28mdvaku222mjtqzqv3qk, nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955, and nostr:npub1yzvxlwp7wawed5vgefwfmugvumtp8c8t0etk3g8sky4n0ndvyxesnxrf8q. The goal is to get a diversity of content on to nostr and show those creators and journalists that the nostr model of zaps and the new subscription content over nostr is a better alternative to centralized advertising driven platforms. #value4value
Please share this with creators and journalists you know who are already on Nostr and also those who might want to join. This will include both getting these folks on to the nostr apps which make sense for them, setting them up with a wallet, teaching them how to be successful on nostr, and importantly promoting them through a bunch of channels on nostr so they can build and audience.
We don't have the deep pockets of meta and tiktok, nor their powerful AI driven algorithms, but we've got something that can be more powerful, people.
Creators and Journalists know they're stuck sharecropping on centralized platforms that can demonetize or delete or just shadow ban their accounts. One day their content gets broadcast to the world, the next the algorithm doesn't even show it to their followers. Their revenue is dependent on getting a cut from an opaque and arbitrary advertising system.
So, share these links, if you're a creator or journalist sign up, and when we start promoting these folks on nostr, check out what they're doing and if you like it, send them zaps. This is open to both existing nostr creators and journalists and new ones we'll onboard.
Is this only for content creators (e.g. vlogs, blogs, and podcasts), or is it also open to people who create open source hardware and software?
I ask because I make an open source hardware password manager and I like sharing updates about it, but I'm not posting with the intent to entertain. Also, I'm a regular person, not a brand (and maybe that's part of my struggle?). Just trying to understand if I should apply. I get the impression the target creators have their π© together mors than I do. π€£
Sorry to hear about the on-boarding problems, mate. Alby support has been decent to me in the past when I had trouble, so hopefully they'll get you squared away soon.
Has anyone on #nostr designed their own #meshtastic device. I see people building existing designs, and I see the documentation discouraging people from making their own designs (in favor of the few designs that are out there), but I figure SOMEONE out there must have the courage to blaze new ground.
If that is you, hit me up. I want to know what documentation you found helpful, how you tie together the existing code versus what you need to write and so forth.

If you like olive oil, I got bad news for you: these high prices aren't going to go away.
In addition to the #ClimateCrisis, there's also #olive blight (Xylella fastidiosa).

So people will either pay through the nose, not have olive oil anymore, or in most cases... a bit of both.
Section 702 allows intelligence agencies to compel businesses to wiretap the communications of foreigners without a warrant, even if they are taking to a US person.
It failed to be renewed again, for the third time in the past 6 months. It will sunset April 19th, 2024 if congress doesn't renew it.
https://www.wired.com/story/section-702-vote-fails-trump-fisa/
Oddly "the program itself will carry on into the next year, regardless of whether [House Speaker Mike] Johnson manages to muster up another vote in the next week."
This section isn't just bad in theory, it's being actively exploited in practice. Again, quoting from the article:
Declassified filings released by the FISA court last year revealed that the FBI had misused the 702 program more than 278,000 times, including, as reported by The Washington Post, against "crime victims, January 6 riot suspects, people arrested at protests after the policing killing of George Floyd in 2020 andβin one caseβ19,000 donors to a congressional candidate."
This sounds like FUD to me.
Has anyone actually seen an infected EV charging station?
If so, where is the payload & analysis?
Good perspective. Also remember that if your hourly rate is $15, that dosn't mean you actually take home $15 per hour.
And just a week or two to pay for a phone might not sound that bad, but when you remember there's food, rent, health insurance, medicine, etc. that all still need to be paid, it starts feeling much more expensive!
It is reportedly so potent that the safety instructions are to "wear goggles and a mask" and some sources specifically say to wear a gasmask. It also has to be processed within minutes to avoid it getting bitter. Sounds like fun! ππ

My sauerkraut came out beautifully! Itβs nice and spicy π nostr:npub1jrx2fk666k5nt8vgak9xwyxlgcwh8fl9rvpwvvcpdthuqkcnptrqdfhtaq approved
Looking forward to doing this again!

Congrats. We just planted horseradish for the first time this year, so hopefully we will be able to do something similar this fall.
I read Proton's take on Passkeys. I have thoughts...
https://proton.me/blog/big-tech-passkey
I have stayed away from the closed source implementations being pushed by big tech companies like #Apple & #Google. I have also steered clear of all #software implementations. So if was nice to be informed on what a shit show it is over there. Not because I want to validate my prior choices (although that does feel good), but so I can help advise people who have different desires than I have.
For me, this is what I want, and why:
1. Completely #OpenSource solution. I've had the rug pulled out from under me too many times to put up with another "sunset" after just a few years.
2. A #hardware implementation. I can use it on a compromised device and still be safe (sans that one login session). This is not true with pure software solutions, including those that use a secure element.
3. Never sync it to any #cloud, let alone someone else's cloud! I understand it's e2ee, but it's more risk than I want to take. I could go into the threats, but I'm trying to be brief here
4. Prefer the ability to #backup and restore, although this is not strictly necessary. It's easy enough to just register two devices to services and never have the secrets leave those devices. But it's more cumbersome than having two devices that are clones of one another. Only have to register one key, and can still recover easily if it's lost or destroyed
I'll admit that this is a high bar. It's still what I want though, and I'm only willing to compromise on that last point.
You might be wondering if anything even exists right now that can meet my demands. I'm happy to say that there is: the Trezor Model T.
https://trezor.io/trezor-model-t
Sure, it can hold the #keys to your #bitcoin, a feature which you may or may not care about, but perhaps more importantly it actually meets all of the requirements for #Passkeys / #FIDO2 / #u2f / whatever you want to call it!
Full disclosure: I do not get any compensation from #Trezor for anything.
#security #cryptography #FreedomTech
Big news, if true. https://phys.org/news/2024-04-breakthrough-prime-theory-primes.amp
Contrary to what the article says, this would at least weaken, if not completely destroy, RSA #encryption & #signatures.
That would mean that the majority of #PGP would be dead! And if the cyphertext is lying around, it could be retroactively broken.
(Side note: PGP supports algorithms other than #RSA, such as #ECC https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc6637 but people almost always use RSA in practice)
To head off two obvious questions, I don't believe this research would affect Diffie-Hellman exchanges nor elliptic curve #cryptography. So #bitcoin would be safe from this breakthrough.
I think it'd be wise to mitigate the single point of failure of "ECC gets broken" or at least have the ability to switch by just changing a configuration option. Bitcoin has neither. TLS and SSH have the latter.
I could use some help getting an SD card working on an Arduino. I'm following the tutorial below and using the example code from the Arduino IDE.
99% of the time it's telling me the wiring wrong/no SD card error. 1% of the time, it says the card isn't formatted.
I have the CS pin correct in the code.
Has anyone seen this before? I've swapped card readers, Arduinios, wires and SD card readers. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-micro-sd-breakout-board-card-tutorial/arduino-wiring
The MISO/MOSI/DI/DO terminology was throwing me for a loop. I swapped the DI/DO pins and now it works like a champ!
