Yes, this is intentional. I wrote it in vanilla JS to avoid using a framework. This way, anyone can just run the index.html file without needing any dependencies or building. It lets the PWA be shared amongst anyone to make it truly usable for censorship-resistance.

Agreed. Federation is just a more complicated system of censorship. And perhaps an even worse form than even on normie, corpo services as the FediBlock doesn’t even really question why someone’s instance is added and only assumes it must be “Nazis”. It’s much harder for such level of censorship without context to happen on Nostr.

From a video you upload, there is a share button and then embed code. You can use that (simple html) to embed your videos from the Plebs video player on your own site 🤙
That’s cool. Plebs is not built like zap.stream and we record the Nostr zaps as part of how Plebs operates for aggregating trending content, and for content creator’s analytics, and more. But no one is caring who it’s actually sent by, simply that the signed zap (kinds 9734/9735) is sent through Nostr. If you’re that worried you can just use ephemeral keypair through account creation and go from there.

It still creates kind 1. It’s also very easy to zap videos. The app creates 3 different kinds per upload, for maximum reach across Nostr. So, that people across Nostr can still zap/watch without being on Plebs itself.
In the settings you can disable all NSFW content 😎

My goal with #Plebs was to make it the PeerTube of #Nostr. I think I’ve accomplished that. But with major improvements, imho, by making it a static site that can easily be loaded locally and leveraging Blossom hosts to offload the content in a way that’s better than ActivityPub. Time will tell, but if video views on PeerTube are any indicator, I suspect Plebs will remain very niche. Though, I wish more people on Nostr would use it to post videos. I pumped a lot of “blood, sweat, and tears” in building it and I’d hate to see it go to waste and become abandonware. A truly censorship-resistant, decentralized video platform with Bitcoin tips via zaps to content creators without any middleman is gonna be huge when people finally wake up to it.
It genuinely pisses me off that Snowden has completely abandoned Nostr. I don’t know if I can in good faith believe another word he says when it comes to privacy and decentralization.
