The big problem with the Bitcoin community is that many see it only as a way to get rich, and getting rich is just a side effect of its nature. In addition, many also long for the returns of years past, and simple mathematics tells us that this will never happen again.

The fact is that every day the world is getting worse, and technology, as the Unabomber correctly predicted, is not making us freer but more enslaved, and we are heading towards total technocracy.

In the midst of this mess, Bitcoin is the only thing that allows us, on the one hand, to protect our wealth from the government and, on the other, to take our wealth elsewhere, as well as transfer it to whomever we want without anyone's permission and out of the thieving hands of the state.

What a year you’ve been.

Left “safe haven” Switzerland for an uncertain future in Portugal.

Experienced one of the wettest Portuguese springs since records began (almost thought we emigrated to the wrong country).

Celebrated Levi’s first birthday in beautiful Cascais.

A 10-hour blackout in April underlined our plans to become fully off-grid.

Enjoyed a perfect summer — sun for about three months straight.

Needed to flee wildfires for a week. Thankfully, the fires didn’t touch our house.

Amazed by the Portuguese autumn — like a second spring, where nature comes back to life after the intense summer heat.

Found our dream land after almost nine months of property hunting — three acres of beauty and pure potential.

Revisited Switzerland for two weeks, which confirmed that moving to Portugal was the right decision.

And so much more.

Lots of pain in letting go of the old life and old patterns. The struggles of creating a new life and settling in a foreign country. Sweat, tears, and uncertainty.

But also enjoying the adventurous spirit. Being able to catch every second of Levi growing up. And countless beautiful moments, filled with joy and laughter.

What’s left is deep gratitude for what has been and excitement for what’s about to come.

I once read this guide from the 1930’s on how to pick out a puppy.

You place the dog gently on its back and then hold it there lightly but firmly.

If it makes no effort to flip itself over it’s a chill/lazy dog who will have a mellow personality.

If it struggles to roll over for a bit and then acquiesces and relaxes this is a dog who will take instruction well and is very trainable.

If it won’t stop fighting you and keeps trying to roll over the whole time this is a high strung dog who will remain high strung. Will be hard to train and needs to be put to work in an active way.

According to ChatGPT this was known as the supine restraint test and it was rooted in dominance theory which is currently debunked.

But I’ve always found it useful as a metaphor.

Are you the dog who fights for a little bit and then gives up? Are you the dog who doesn’t fight? Or are you the dog who will keep fighting until you finally get what you want?
