The benefits is it makes it costly to spam, a lot of people have proposed lightning payments as a spam filter for things like email, it rewards the end user for viewing advertising directly. The downsides, maybe there is some technical problem with consuming network bandwidth, but that just provides node operators with routing fees. Maybe it pushes up fees on the network, or reorganizes fees to account for the amount of data sent?

We do need one though, IMO, I dont know what it would look like or how itd work, how consensus could be held to a reasonable standard, but I do think we need some kind of pseudonymous decentralized or federated DNS service. Hes putting the cart (dual income) before the horse (inflation), but I dont think its good that every household is being forced into sending their kids off to day care/public education so both parents can work. I think in any society there will always be women working, but a paradox of egalitarian and rich societies is that gender roles stratify as it becomes more efficient or just more preferable for women to take care of the home while the man takes a job. There will always be outliers with women that enjoy working or are really great at making money, but the idea that every woman should be pushed into it runs counter to how society runs when times are good.

Certainly seems so, it reminds me of 2021, fear and stress are slowly ratcheting up. Theyll keep up the facade until people start breaking it down, its like the covid hysteria, they were never going to "give you back your freedom" no matter how much locking down or masking or vaccinating you did, they were only ever able to pull it off because people complied and they had to back off when normal people stopped caring. How that translates to a very narrow realm of people like us is hard to say, most people I know dont bother with so much as a VPN.
