Something I’m rather firm on is that if you have the ability to make children and you do not. You are in 99.99% if circumstances making a gigantic mistake.

Children make life worth living.

Children provide instant meaning to life.

They inspire planning and care about the future.

They increase joy.

They make life novel and exciting again.

They’re innovative, surprising and imaginative.

They reflexively shape us as we attempt to shape them into better versions of themselves/ourselves.

If you have children and they have children you will be increasingly surrounded by life as you grow old.

If you do not, you will be surrounded by death as everyone you know slowly dies.

You will never regret having kids.

You will certainly regret not having them.

If you have kids you are honoring the sacrifice and suffering your ancestors had to endure by passing the torch forward.

If you do not you are dishonoring them by wasting your life on the meaningless pursuit of your own pleasure.

These are very strongly held immutable beliefs for me.

My son is 15 years old today. I remember the day he was born, just like it was yesterday 🥹 It was the scariest and most exciting day of my life.

Being a parent is incredibly rewarding, but also incredibly hard at times too. He wanted an electric scooter for his birthday. We got him one. He's currently riding it all over the place. I am scared to death that he's going to get hit by a car. I probably worry too much.

I usually feel awful after flying long distances. Some people travel well, and that’s not really me.

I usually can’t sleep much on a plane, even in business class, so I forcibly skip a whole night of sleep basically, and end up with a headache and full body aches.

Over the years I’ve picked up some techniques to minimize it, but clearly not enough (travel for me used to be “hellish” and now it’s much improved to just “awful”).

What do ya’ll do to minimize the negative impact when traveling?

People really don't realize how utterly dependent modern surveillance is on the idea that everybody is carrying a phone — which is always tracked. Their car has a cellular modem in it — which is always tracked. 99% of investigation is one guy and a search box. If you're not low-hanging fruit, you aren't gonna merit the Eye of Sauron of manual, well-resourced, focused team attention—and if you did, you probably planned ahead for it, right? Because it's not a mystery what would get you on Santa's Naughty List.

Anyway, the point is that even in a big city, the phoneless guy in a "covid" mask is going to be invisible to anything less than that exhaustive manual investigation — at least for a few more years. That may go away once they start networking all the cameras and having AI start trying to match up clothing sets moving from camera to camera, butthat capability is hard to hide, so it'll be in the news. And it won't work that well in places with less camera density and, perhaps, for people who wear the most-common outfits (the visual equivalent of a "shared fingerprint").

Remember: Phones are useful, but dangerous. And the people who will still wear covid masks to the beach are helping to normalize facial obscurity—regardless of their intention. Don't be mean to them. Encourage them to wear them everywhere. For passport photos. In police booking photos. At the customs desk. Family portraits! The sky is the limit—let them push the boundaries so that you don't have to.
