Bitcoiners are too dismissive of Monero. While BTC is an ideal store of value, XMR is arguably a better medium of exchange.

For some reason Zero Hedge chose this guy of all people for the bitcoin side of their bitcoin vs. gold debate

Nice open protocol with moderators and privileged surveillance

I think an OSINT quiz account on nostr would be fun (e.g., geolocation challenges), zaps for correct answers

It is "Bitcoin Pizza Day" and Nostr and other socials are full of bloggers, podcasters, authors extolling the virtues of spending muh Bitcoin. Telling you 10K BTC on two pizzas was not a mistake. That you should follow the example and spend your Bitcoin because it is "good for Bitcoin". Um, 🐂 💩

This is a PLEA TO EMOTION nothing more. It is not 2010 it is not 2014 it is 2024 the world and Bitcoin have both changed in this regard. There is no need to spend it to prove value to anyone now.

Sure spend it when it makes sense but don't FUCKIN LIE and say that people don't regret doing it. I bought a shotgun for one bitcoin when it was 600 dollars. I don't hate the gun, I don't hate the decision but I look at it often and remember the lessons of "The Richest Man in Babylon" and regret the decision. I don't lie to myself so I feel better and say, "it was good for Bitcoin".

If you must spend BTC buy it and spend it minutes apart and ONLY on what you would spend cash on anyway unless you want an accounting nightmare with tax bullshit up your ass.

Next on "cash you would spend anyway" start evaluating what the fuck that means and stop listening to honest to God BULLSHIT about YOUR need to spend YOUR Bitcoin from others. On your need to SPEND AT ALL from others.

We do not have a spending deficiency problem. Not in Bitcoin, not in dollars, not in FUCKIN ANYTHING. All we do is fuckin spend and spend and spend. We spend money faster than it is earned and have forever but especially since 1971!

Listen to this book, it is free, it is over 90 years old now, it is timeless wisdom and if you are going to listen to BULLSHIT about your need to spend, you need to take the time and listen to this vs. yet another book, blog or podcast that tells you "money is broken and BTC fixes this".

The problem with today's money is it encourages spending. Yea Bitcoin fixes this but only if you FIX YOUR OWN BULLSHIT FIRST. Give a drug user a less bad drug and they are still a fuckin addict.

Listen to this book, or buy a copy and read it. Either way every time you hear or read the word gold, do what Peter Schiff should of done long ago, change it in your head to Bitcoin.

We have hard money but way too much advice now comes from those who never lived when hard money existed. Fiat thinking won't work with hard money. Fiat thinking is spend, hard money is pay for what you need and SAVE. Then put money to work as your slave.

For now, BTC preforms so well there is not need to put it to work, just HODL and tell people that constantly tell you to spend, to fuck off sidways with a cheese grater in their ass.

Too harsh? Sorry, not sorry.

I think spending is a good way to test out and encourage development of bitcoin spending technology. If done properly it can also give you more privacy than electronic fiat payment methods.

But yeah I generally only spend by converting from fiat for that purpose, so never from cold storage.

"The incident once again raises the question as to what the fediverse — that is, decentralized social media — actually is. If you join Bluesky, are you consenting to be part of a network that includes Nostr content?"

This question from the article seems to miss the point completely. With decentralized social media you're consenting to being on the same network as everyone.

There are plenty of sites where I don't think it's controversial, although for sure there are grey areas.

I'm almost always opposed to restricting access to anything on the internet, but I think different principles come into play when you're talking about kids. We can't really think like libertarians when considering what freedoms children should have. And allowing unfettered access automatically extends to kids.

They mention the example of age verification for in store adult content, and hardly anyone has an issue with that. But then they rest their argument on access to legitimate speech also being limited by age verification, and that's the part I find weak and unconvincing.

Their argument seems pretty lame to me. If at least one third of the content is sexually explicit, it's a porn site. Why would requiring age verification be a problem, if it might discourage kids from accessing it? I don't think an adult's right to KYC-free masturbation is more important.

Downloaded all of my Amazon data today and it's pretty creepy what they store. I could hear audio recordings of questions I had apparently asked Siri when I tried it out many years ago.

True. Although it can cripple you if you aren't careful.
