So a group of financial “experts” is suggesting that people use financial “experts” to plan for retirement…
Hmm. How about no.
I’ll continue to be nearly 100% self-sufficient so I only need very little Fiat, work a little here and there to stay intellectually challenged and grounded with “normie” culture, and then buy #Bitcoin everyday with any remaining Fiat I have until I die.
I have no interest in 401ks, ETFs, stocks, bonds, investment real estate, or fiat savings accounts. I only want real property, and that’s #bitcoin.
Let’s see who fares better with time.
Haha please don’t. :)
I hope both you and they find a path to peace and contentment as soon as you’re able.
We’ve all got different paths but that doesn’t mean they still can’t sometimes lead to the same place right? :)
To be fair, having kids for some is an important part of their loves and how you raise kids, the societies you encourage them to be a part of and the ideas you expose them to are a function of your own exposure and creativity. Most don't know they are being lied to constantly. Some wouldn't care even if they did. But many are questioning things and bringing up kids differently. Look at the increase in home schooling over the past 20 years! And at the extremes, look to the Amish for how distinct a culture can be while co-existing with sheeple culture.
Re overpopulation - I refer you to a lecture by Hans Rosling which elegantly explains what cause the population explosion from 2.5B to 8B and where this might go. TL:DR - pop explosion was a function of global industrialization improving life conditions at a time when people needed 6+ kids to have 2 survive to adulthood and will likely stabilize somewhere around 11b. We can discuss later if we can carry this or not. Here's the lecture if interested: https://youtu.be/2LyzBoHo5EI
Just watched the video and yes, I completely agree with the guy.
I think the cat is out of the bag and we are most certainly going to end up with around 11B in the near future.
That level of over-population to me is absolutely next level dystopian and I struggle to even imagine the famines, conflicts, environmental damage, and scale of human suffering that will result.
You have managed to strengthen my resolve to never bring another pointless life into this catastrophe in progress. I didn’t think that was possible. :)
Er… You may not like my number one… :)
Let’s just say family doesn’t have to include kids?
I’ll leave it at that and slowly back away. :)
This is the freedom I have and I can confirm, it is pretty damn awesome.
Make just a few smart choices and this life is within everyone’s reach.
Sounds like a great way to spend the day. :)

Hey thank you for the link!
I’m always interested in incorporating new perspectives into my thinking and will definitely check it out.
My personal feelings on the matter of over-population is that a global population of approximately 50 million would be pretty ideal.
If we reduced the population by 50% with each generation by only having one child per couple, that would get us there in about 5-6 generations without too much difficulty.
Personally I plan on never having kids because I’ve seen it go wrong far too many times to maintain any naïveté about the actual risks involved.
As an example, pronouncing six teenagers dead after a roll over accident into a swamp and shallow drowning in mud would be enough to change some minds I think, but doing so day in and day out just makes you see the world differently I guess.
All those teenagers had great, kind, capable, and very well intentioned parents btw.
Happy thinking!

Thank you. I’m don’t personally place any value in prayer or religion, but I appreciate the gesture and the sentiment with which it is offered. :)
Nope. How did you reach that conclusion though? Would it help to confirm a pre-existing bias?
As for my mute list, I mute anyone that posts low effort content or begs for sats. I think you ended up on it because of the regular single word posts you make that just weren’t interesting.
Happy to discuss this topic further though if you’re up for it.
Hope those lungs are feeling better by the way. Your children deserve a healthy parent after all.
The world is a pretty awful place but, for what it’s worth, being a realist doesn’t have to make you feel depressed.
You have already found nature, which is one of the best therapies out there. Dogs do a pretty darn good job of it too.
If you add in physical activity, which it sounds like you do, you may have the occasional bad day but give yourself a pass and know that you won’t feel that way everyday.
What it boils down to for me is making the best of the life I have. It’s definitely not perfect, but as long as I can take care of myself, I will extract as much damn happiness from this clown world as I can.
Please pet that sweet dog for me. :)
Way to go bud. Keep it up.
We can disagree on many things, but appreciating your body while it still functions will never be a bad idea in my book.
You do you friend.
Some of us actually like to think for ourselves though. :)
We are fed so many lies by those seeking to exploit us. The concept that bringing new life into the world is somehow required for a full and satisfying existence is, I suspect, the greatest lie of them all. The worst part is that the poor kids being thrust into lifetimes of suffering and servitude have absolutely no say in the matter.
Like #antinatalism, we are taught nothing about money, about corporate profit models, about death and dying, or about how to live a truly happy life.
EVERYTHING we are taught is instead designed to keep us distracted, dependent, depressed, afraid, obedient, docile, dumb, poor, and (re)PRODUCTIVE FOR THE MASTERS.
As this thread nicely illustrates, most parents cannot even consider this. They have to retreat in their logic to idiomatic expressions such as “fill the earth” or non-sequiturs such as “but my child will be different”. Few, if any, will be able to overcome their guilt and massive cognitive dissonance associated with their failed reasoning to reproduce.
This much I can understand, as I would feel immeasurable sadness if I had forced someone I love into a life sentence of suffering and servitude. The mental gymnastics I would bring to bear would be no less impressive and desperate. I would likely also call out to religion or other “faith” based heuristics to help assuage my guilt.
The problem though, is that even though there are already 8 billion of us, we are all raised by people who have made the grievous error of reproducing. Expecting these same people to be able to acknowledge their mistakes while at the same time trying to overcome the massive machine that pumps us full of pro-life propaganda unfortunately means that the over-population problem is unlikely to be solved any time soon.
Since 1950 alone, we have gone from 2.5 to 8 billion humans. The implications of this are absolutely staggering to consider yet we’ll continue to hear virtually nothing about it.
Keep breeding folks, everything is fine, nothing to see here.

#thinkdangerously
Well that’s one way of looking at it. :)
Thanks for the explanation. It’s nice that we can all see the world so differently.
Does there need to be 8 billion of us?
Sex is the original shitcoin.
Virtually unlimited supply in reality but heavily marketed to seem very exclusive and special.
What is in fact truly rare is an equal and faithful partner that wants to help you become a better person for your sake, not theirs.
Spend time and money finding that. Not some stereotypical bimbo with vanity as their main selling feature.
