"Nothing can be forecasted with certainty but things MUST be forecasted thus futurism is a necessity" - Nick Land
Feels nice paying for my VPN with lightning
Yeah, the RSS thing would be of great convenience for both you and myself. Good to hear you're working on it. In terms of engagement here, it's probably going to only be me and IM whenever he returns but keep on building. Thanks
I wouldn't want to be ed either
I'm speaking generally about the tendency of those to level criticism our way to lecture us on character, etiquette blah blah blah and in particular, Alp's stance. I'm not talking about you.
Anyway, I can see how you can come to that conclusion but this is just a misunderstanding of the process, what capture means and victory conditions and general SAIF theory. I mean, it's in the name. The primary tool is futurology, hyperstition. Being at the bleeding edge of trends and steering them. With all due respect, what trends do we steer and which people do we capture on Nostr?
Anyway, this has gone for too long. I recommend our reading list and our articles, as well as maybe perusing our tweets. We've been very consistent from the start.
Finally, I can't make it any clearer than this: you need to be able to parse when a core member speaks for SAIF and when they're not. More often than not, they're speaking for themselves. Whether it be sovereign econ or OPSEC or whatever, if you want to live in a Faraday cage then more power to you, you get my repost. But what the project is or isn't, has been consistent and we've been clear on that from the jump.
The obvious case study for viral capture is Remilia, if you're not familiar I can find some reading material to get you up to speed. We're open about our influences and Remilia is an obvious influence re: viral capture.
Sure, building on Nostr is something I encourage but that's me speaking. This message is me speaking for SAIF but not all my messages are like this. I encourage building on Nostr for it's own sake because it's an interesting idea, I don't see how in the present it'd be of any use to the project. Can it become of use in the future? Sure.
I think your reading of the spiritual opsec guide is too on the nose, it was never meant to be that. It was my idea but that's besides the point. "There are two you's now. Meat-you and cyber-you". This has all been clear from the start on Twitter. Viral capture being one our goals, people infected by SAIF going off into their localities, creating networks, infiltrating organisations and institutions etc etc etc. Even our talks on post authorship, fragmentation, rhizomaticization of cyberspace identity and becoming uncancelable that whilst some of us value OPSEC, it is not gospel. I think it's easy to see how one goes from exploring what I've just stated (total mitigation of cancellation) to schizo posting online without fear of consequence. In a way, it's OPSEC but offensive.
Again, I don't see how it's hypocritical when we've been clear on that from the start. "SAIF doesn't care about OPSEC" is a reaction to the recent painting of us as being overly bothered about OPSEC. We don't advocate teaching the masses OPSEC, etc etc etc. It's useful information to have and not need rather than the inverse and it's good etc etc you already know this but I gave you the elevator pitch version of the SAIF vision in my response to Alp. In pursuit of that vision, I'll put all my chips on the table, OPSEC and personal safety be damned.
I think you should maybe stop to consider why people comfortable with the cypherpunk label such as proud and myself would be willing to go along with the move to Discord. You know we're competent, we know that you know that. There is no coup, there is no splintering or in fighting, that's just a meme. Now why would joycat and cypherpunk SAIF stick together if OPSEC were to be this massive dividing line? It isn't because the cypherpunks in the group have a grasp of the vision at large.
Final thing, regarding your messages regarding nostr being ignored. I don't know who you've messaged and on what platform but if it's not Twitter or Discord, you're unlikely to get a response. I've given clarification and feedback myself and I'm still willing to do that but know this, you don't need my permission or anybody else's to do whatever you want. If you like the project and it inspires you to build, then build. If you think what I'm saying is unreasonable, build for your own sake or start your own project etc.
If you want to formulate an actual critique you are more than welcome to do so. You frame your entire thing as "im just asking questions" but you hasn't asked any actual intelligent questions outside of general bait "explain it in 2 sentences or it means nothing".
-Credentials, of no importance. Your identity is of no interest to me.
-You not understanding it means little. There are many people who understand it just fine. You might not be well versed in theory and philosophy which is fine
-If you wonder “what survival” it makes me wonder why in the first place you write an article about a project you have either not read a lot about or you have understood so little that somehow such questions make sense to you
-Another nod to credentials. Just as unimportant as me saying Eco is an academic so his philosophy is good. We prove this through the writing, not through pointing at credentials
-Saying “I’m not saying what SAIF is” is false as you implied knowing what it is by saying X is SAIF y is not SAIF, “my articles can be deemed SAIF” etc. How can you say those things while not understanding it (which you admit in this same post).
-No one said we are the first people to do anything and we are open about our influences
-Your age is of no interest
-You don’t seem to understand what it is related to (seeing the examples you gave in first post)
-If you want to know what we stand for read the articles. If you don’t understand ask.
-It was defined in my answer. Any further answer of how and what exactly requires more than 2-3 sentences. If you think that makes it mean nothing you have not engaged with any deep philosophy or theory ever.
As stated in the SAIF interview with Qawwam magazine, we welcome criticism. We do not appreciate lecturing. People seem to miss the entire point of SAIF time and time again, and project that onto us. I've explained in my reply the one sentence vision for SAIF. Everything is downstream from that, and any means to inch forwards towards that, we will take. The post misunderstands SAIF, then the author believes he can delineate between who is SAIF and who is not, which articles are SAIF (his) and which articles are too abstract to be understood. What gives?
Anyway, this is all so boring. We're not an OPSEC educational nonprofit. Some of us like to talk about that stuff because we enjoy it, think it's useful to the project, important information for people to have access to or a mixture. Others don't at all. Getting lost in the toolbox and missing the shed that needs to be built.
I'm getting the feeling more and more that the original SAIF movement is somehow inauthentic, too artificial. Kind of just an "non-binding declaration of intent," at worst a more pretentious form of piety signaling. BTW, "non-binding declaration of intent" is also how advertising is defined, which is why legally speaking, it can spread lies about a product or service.
I'm coming to this view more and more, not just because of recent events, but I had this impression from the beginning, from the first so-called "SAIF-OGs." It's not about the abstract, very theoretical articles they write, but more:
- Lack of practical relevance
- None of the SAIF-OGs are active here on Nostr (despite a certain number of supporters in the Muslim community)
- I hardly ever see them talking about Bitcoin or OPSEC
- They're not involved in the FOSS scene and talk too little about it
... just idealistic yada yada blah blah in hard-to-digest articles all the time.
In short, it feels like every crap we modern Muslims set up these days: Fake, without substance, quickly passing. Basically like an Islamic shitcoin.
There are some real SAIF Muslims, don't get me wrong. They were SAIF before the term even existed. Like nostr:npub17veg2gt7ja4dnjhs23jyttvpqlde3ajevlxuumxwghnqmgqwuv4q78cc5z and nostr:npub1uzfp6cgwue2njm86cmyeq7m26y0n58w72acq98sjsnnv4c87002s6857h3 for example. They take the ideas behind it seriously from the beginning. I myself have written articles on my domains that could be classified as "SAIF," but never labeled them as such. But the guys behind https://saif.systems/? Yeah, nice website, so what? It seems to me like this new, artificial SAIF movement just settled into the ready-made nest and is somehow trying to take it over.
I've observed it for a long time, kept quiet for a long time, didn't want to be the critic who ruins a good thing right at the start with criticism. But now? Stay away from me with "SAIF," you hypocrites. I myself will only use the term mockingly from now on. And I'll understand it that way if someone brings it up to me. With a contemptuous smile.
You and many others like you clearly have a fundamental misunderstanding of what SAIF is. As has been explained a thousand times, SAIF was born out of the question "how can we survive and capture the process?" Inevitably, the question of "what is the process?" "What is capture" "what does survival and victory look like?" "Is it possible? Feasible" etc arise hence the "dense" articles as you put it. The founding of SAIF had a mixture of elements who have different but adjacent ideas to answer those questions. Viral capture vs OPSEC. Both are working together under the umbrella of SAIF towards a common goal even if methods differ. The majority of core members contribute by way of man hours, ideas or whatever else they can contribute. If you want to offer up a cypherpunk solution, be my guest - we'd be more than happy to take a look but what we're not going to accept is you sitting there whining and throwing your toys out of the crib because SAIF isn't this or that. Instead of telling us what we should be or what we should do - come with a working solution that isn't "lock yourself to an obscure platform so that your work reaches no one" and then maybe you'll be taken seriously

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allah says: 'I am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to Me, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to Me, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.' "
Looking back on my journey here, it’s clear it took a long time and a lot of luck. Like most of you, I got pulled into cyberspace early on, tinkering with my first computer and diving into the internet. Curiosity drove me deeper. I wanted my machine to do things beyond the typical; things I thought were cool or fun. That led me into the world of computers, then Bitcoin around 2011 (I was really young), and eventually opsec, privacy, and security.
I had to step away from computers for a long time. But when I returned, I realized something. I’d developed the mindset of a cyber/cypherpunk. It took time and curiosity and it wasn’t instant.
That’s why I don’t think doomtalk about how we either orange pill the ummah or its over is productive. If it took us this much time to get here, we can't expect people to become Bitcoiners overnight.
You don’t need to convert everyone. You need 10%. The right 10%; people with drive and curiosity already and I'm sure there's plenty to be found.
Whether cultivating this 10% will involve events & summits that require skin in the game or something else, I leave that for you to ponder on.

Self host everything series pt 1:
Intro:
This is the first edition of a journal/blog documenting my efforts to self host as many things as I have the interest and time for.
My background:
I'm a physicist. Due to extreme curiosity, I've become gripped with the latest strain of computer related autism.
Why?
1) Why not?
2) Data sovereignty is the only defense you plebs have in an age of infowar, internet death and jeetification.
3) Let me share something with you from /hsg/: "Home servers are about learning and expanding your horizons. De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your /g/ skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.
Most people get started with a NAS. It’s nice to have a /comfy/ home for all your data. Streaming your movies/shows around the house and to friends. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spin up some VMs. Learn networking by setting up a pfSense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow.
Things that are online today might not be online forever. It's good to have a copy of something because you never know when it might get taken down due to copyright strikes. "
What?
I'll be starting with a network attached storage (NAS). As described by /hsg/, it is a /comfy/ home for my data. My usecase is fairly simple, so I don't need anything too high tech. Lowlife works for now, especially for a first project. So I did the cliche thing and purchased a Raspberry Pi. The 5 w/8GB ram to be specific.
"How are you going to build a NAS on a pi?" I hear you screech. Hats. Expansion boards that are attached to the Pi via FPC cables. I purchased the Radxa Penta SATA hat and a Samsung SSD. Total cost? $167. Not bad.
Guide:
1) Write Pi OS to a microSD card. Install Raspberry Pi imager, choose your device, OS, storage medium, set a username & password and other settings and write the image to your microSD card.
2) Assemble the parts. (Just read the Radxa docs)
3) Set up RAID, LVM, both or something else entirely.
4) Create a directory that will be shared on the network and then mount your LVM LV or RAID array to it. Edit the /etc/fstab file for persistent mounting. Ensure proper permissions are set for the directory (consult Samba docs)
5) Install Samba, edit the /etc/samba/samba.conf to setup the Samba share, then restart samba so that the newly configured shared directory is available
6) Create a user for Samba access: sudo smbpasswd -a
7) Connect to the share from another computer using the CLI provided by the smbclient package or by using a GUI file explorer. SMB capable file explorers can be found on F-droid for android.
8) (Optionally) Mount the share on your PC/Laptop via cifs by installing the cifs-utils package.
Pros:
- Just Werks
- Easy
- Cheap
- Looks cool (pic rel)
Cons:
- Expansion limitation + a hard cap limitation due to the small number of Pcie lanes so network + disk speed limitations. Also, ARM architecture and running Plebian
PS: I wrote this up on my file server and accessed it on my android phone to grab the text to post on Nostr. /comfy/

Kino
The magic behind computing is that the more layers you peel back the more exponentially fascinating things get. Another thing is the fact that kino is usually hidden behind the mundane. Take bash redirections for example. what is seemingly to you "taking the output of one command and using it as the input of another" is manipulation of streams of data. About as cyberpunk as one can get. Computing is magical if you let your imagination roam freely (shame it's not that challenging of a subject however)
I am petitioning the Council of Bradford to dose the regional water supply with 20% nsi 189 on account of the large inbred Pakistani population and the subsequently low average IQ scores. I of course demand a 10% kickback from any resulting economic upturn
Unironically, time based capitulation is going to rayp, and already has to some extent, altcoiners and we'll hear of many rope stories. Stack sats is the best strategy for all IQ bands. Not everyone is made to be a retarded gambler
AI agents are going to be indistinguishable from real humans and the normie mind will be raypd for it. Find and/or create a high trust, high IQ gated community or prepare for digital penetration ad infinitum.
