do you guys think the human rights activists that joined recently as a result of the purple pilling that occurred at the HRF freedom forum will stick around in the coming weeks and months ? or will it be another failed attempt at onboarding ?

& if so what can we do differently ?

Excellent question! I hope they stay.

sure I guess I hope so as well but do we think they will based on their current trajectory ? most haven’t really interacted with anyone here yet or made more than 3 notes, we’ll see what happens but from what I’m seeing I’ll make a prediction that they won’t be here months from now.. hope I’m wrong but that’s just hope..

You can lead a horse to water...

There were a bunch of National Socialists (Nazi's) that came over from poast a while back who seem to have made themselves a home here. I actually find some of their viewpoints interesting and would never harass any of them for having a different opinion than mine.

They actually prompted me to buy and start reading a copy of Mein Kampf, which is sooo different from what the mainstream media portrays it as that I can hardly believe that anyone ever read it honestly.

So the strength of nostr is that it is a true melting pot of ideas without judgement. Mute someone if you like, but its your loss.

Well that took a turn that I wasn’t expecting 🀣 from your opening I would’ve never expected the rest hahahah but yeah we are very different I exercise my right to use the mute button whenever it’s spam, obnoxious etc it’s the beauty of curating the perfect experience for my individual taste, by you choosing to not mute, you are doing the same, & I love that for us!

the sheep cannot abide.

But the Dude can. πŸ€™

I tried to read Mein Kampf but it requires so much knowledge of what was happening in that time and place that it made no sense to me and I couldn't keep myself interested enough to finish it.

It does take a certain effort but when you can juxtapose what is happening in today's society with what Hitler was observing, you can see and understand the similarities.

Eh, I'd err on the side of caution with that. They turned their hatred for corrupt bankers into genociding a whole group of people. There was nothing noble or just about what Hitler did. In fact, he was a devout Christian with a drug addiction. Two toxic mixes.

Hang the bankers, sure. But leave the innocent people alone.

That a typical response from someone who has not read Mein Kampf.

"Hitler was a genocidal drug addict", which is what "they" want you to believe so you don't look any further into it.

I have read Mein Kampf. And Hitler was a genocidal drug addict. You need to read more about Hitler's physician and "Vitamultin".

You are one of those guys who will always know more than me about any subject.

I have no argument at this point in my reading of the book. Whether or not historical events took a different turn from the original intention is possible. What we have been taught about all of that may have been fake news as well.

This isn't fake news on the subject of Hitler using meth. We have writings from actual members of the Nazi party at the time and had personally worked with Hitler who have confirmed it. What more evidence do you need?

Gonna need the meth. Deliver to me the meth or I won't believe you.

I've used meth and never felt the need to genocide a particular race or religion.

Whats your point?

I've used meth and never felt the need to genocide a particular race or religion.

Whats your point?

Hitler was unambiguously bad, in a way few other people are

You drank the koolaid. But don't feel bad. So did 99% of humanity.

If you scream "six million Jews" loud enough and long enough it becomes fact.

I researched this heavily. It's not some conspiracy the neo-Nazis would have you believe. The figure was something more like 5.8 million, but it was rounded up for simplicity, as even the raw figure they're uncertain about.

You obviously didn't "research" it enough but I don't have the time or inclination to educate you when you already have such a brainwashed bias.

Typical excuse. "DYOR" they say. Providing none of their own which is apparently some smoking gun everyone should know.

It's no excuse at all.

If you had appeared in the least interested I might have helped, but since you know it all, there is no help.

You need to watch this. The Nazis are still in power. The idea that the holocaust didn't happen is part of their psyop propaganda to make impressionable people believe the Jews are the bogeyman for all their problems.

That is a long video, and it is hard to watch because a lot of it is untrue or badly sourced or rumors, so I feel like I'm being led down the conspiracy theory garden path..... even if some of it is true and interesting and useful to know. I wish he (or someone else) had made a shorter more well researched and defendable movie on the same topic. I can't seem to get myself to watch that whole thing.

I've watched it in its entirety and have fact checked everything that wasn't opinion or eluding to a possible truth. Not sure what you've found to be unture? Care to share?

The quote from Rothschild was the first thing that got me fact checking. Of course controlling the money is more power than being the elected leader... but there is no source - I don't believe the Rothschilds ever said the quote, or if they did it was scrubbed from history because there is no credible source. The person who is claimed to have said it (as shown in his movie) wasn't even alive in World War I, he died in the 1800s, but the movie at that point leads you to believe otherwise. So that kind of pissed me off and led me to feel like I was being deceived and indoctrinated rather than being educated.

I totally believe the JFK assassination was multiple shooters arranged by powerful people and the CIA was somehow involved. But I don't conclude precisely who or why because I haven't dug that deep. Maybe this movie could give me more info, but it's hard to watch when I already don't trust it.

OK I'm watching it again. It does have a lot of truthful information in there. Lots of other things I'm checking on check out as true and there's a hell of a lot of info in this movie. If most of it is true, and it weaves a narrative to an interesting conclusion, it is worth suffering through a few poorly sourced bits.

I assume the freedom folks have a bigger chance of staying than the tiktokkies as this whole thing makes more sense for freedom than attention πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I made the same assumption when they showed up, but I remember seeing the tiktokkies magnitudes more active than them, but we’ll see right..

Keep onboarding and go often on nostr

I hope they stick around. But they need to be aware that people here will say what they really think even if it hurts their feelings, and they need to be able to argue back in turn, and live with dissent. I think they can and I think they will.

The CIA uses organisations like this to topple governments, and not to spread democracy or human rights as is claimed, but to preserve US hegemony. Did toppling Ukraine in 2014 lead to more human rights? Just the opposite.

If these organisations can avoid being the tools (witting or unwitting) of the CIA, I welcome their activity. Human rights are very important, and people stuck in oppressive regimes are human beings that deserve just as much rights as you and I do.

I agree with what you’re saying and also hope they stick around n find footing! It’s important.

If they leave that's not gonna be because we could have done something different.

Their inevitable return however, will be because of censorship or deplatforming in all other places.

I agree about the last part but I also don’t think our onboarding and discoverability is perfect just yet

It’s closer to good enough than very good

You're probably right. But isn't the problem more on the design/development of the protocol itself, rather than what I, a regular pleb, can do? If there's any way I can make this place better for onboarding in a non-dev way, I'd gladly hear it.

Maybe this already exists but I'd venture to say a video warehouse/listing of nostr where everything is explained in sectional topics or something like that. It overwhelming to take in a truly decentralization of social media for those who weren't exposed to it.

nope I don’t believe that exists yet and it truly would be very helpful

Are you asking if we think they'll love us for who we are, and if not, if we should change for them?

My thought is that, if they don't appreciate our questionable memes and autist takes on... everything, then they don't deserve us!

Nostr is for the bold.

It really a question of how cool they are. :D

is their target audience on twitter or nostr?

We need better software, better clients. Clients that help people discover more accounts and bring up older posts again, without further manipulation.

Most people's first touch point with a new technology doesn't stick.

Think about your Bitcoin journey.

If many come to visit few will stay, but everyone will remember the nostr.

When they come back in two years and see what has been built they will understand the potential.

If they came on here and campaigned for zaps for specific projects they're personally engaged in I think it would help them understand the potential of the protocol if they aid in its active user base.

human rights foundation needs to investigate human rights on nostr.

The best thing that could happen to bitcoin is of it was made 100% illegal to own or use. Raising the bar to onboard should be the priority. The only people trying to "make it easier" and "for everybody" like Andreas and Dorsey are avowed socialists. Bitcoin was created to free people, not entrap them, which all of the custody services do.

i think they’ll stay. we should attempt to welcome them and engage with their work, so they know it is reaching an audience

Has anyone made a list of them and an intro post? It’ll help a lot if they get engagement.

I don’t think so tbh a list of them I haven’t seen yet

maybe Gigi can make one, can’t tag him rn
