Storing files on the cloud is vulnerable. Tapes degrade, NAND wears out, hard drives die.

Yes, we put a high-powered pico-laser in the power button of the Umbrel Home so you can stop paying rent to Big Cloud for storage.

Own your data, physically and forever. On a rock.

Buy yours today: umbrel [dot] com

Why'd you ruin it? We could have had a bunch people all excited about the rock and integrated pico-laser on the umbrel! Boooooooo

I wish this were true!

$99 per rock?!!

Fucking steal of a price. LFG!!!

High-powered laser...

In the...

Power button.

But... 🤔

Noice.

That's a rock I can believe in. Love you guys. Umbrel for the win!

That's so cool! I'd love to store my 30TB of data on an asteroid!

Whatever it takes to keep Rock relevant forever🤣🤣🤣

The incredible technology of the future is already here.

The incredible technology of the future is already here.

its a node and seedhammer all in one.

Funny, but seriously, this should be developed into a real product. The only two mediums that have stood the test of time are stone and pottery.

😂😂😂

Interesting concept, but Umbrel is designed primarily as a plug-and-play self-hosted server for apps like Bitcoin nodes, Lightning, Nextcloud, and more. While local storage is key for privacy and resilience, etching data onto granite seems… a bit extreme.

If durability is the goal, wouldn’t a well-maintained RAID setup with regular offsite backups (or something like IPFS for redundancy) be a more practical solution?

That's all well and good until a volcano springs up in your living room. I'm working on a new product right now that stores keys on self replicating nanobots. You can't lose your keys if there are 10,000 copies per gram of soil globally.
