Privacy is very likely to be outlawed in the EU (and the US).
What will they do? Arrest everyone using Signal, Telegram, SimpleX, Briar, Matrix, Tor, nostr?
It's like saying SSL/TLS encryption for email is illegal. How to procreed? For Google, Microsoft, Proton to remove encryption? Arrest Mozilla Thunderbird, K9-mail, Roundcube devs? Delete all source codes?
Same as when holding gold was forbidden, some surrender, some hide it and fight for their freedom.

yeah, but autopilot/outbox model fixes this. they can't arrest everyone running a nostr server. well they could try I guess, but then people would just start running them as tor hidden services

Ty it’s happening everywhere and the people who say anything online what happens to them? I know what happens to them and none of us are protected anywhere for our free speech on social media. Government has no laws that protect the people from them.
How secure are DMs on Nostr?
we have nip-04 which are end-to-end encrypted but leak metadata. We have a newer spec (nip17) which hide metadata and are also end-to-end encrypted.
We are working on a new group encryption spec that is efficient for large groups but its experimental.
I recommend using nostr:npub1tm99pgz2lth724jeld6gzz6zv48zy6xp4n9xu5uqrwvx9km54qaqkkxn72 for DMs. I just started using it. It doesn’t let you respond with the deprecated nip-04 spec which leaks metadata. Also check out nostr:npub1h0uj825jgcr9lzxyp37ehasuenq070707pj63je07n8mkcsg3u0qnsrwx8 which uses the signal protocol. You can’t use your existing nsec with keychat though so it’s a little harder to get the conversations started, but better for privacy.
That said, damus is probably our best relay and our best client. Loss of damus would leave a large gaping hole in nostr.

Bullshit, HTTP and email is INCREDIBLY vulnerable to censorship and state action. WTF?
How so?
for starters http and email are not encrypted at standard which means its entirely vulnerable to whatever you feed to it at the base level, so to assert that just having one of these protocols means we are somehow decentralized and free of censorship is an absolutely absurd notion
