Do you remember when WhatsApp didn't used to support lightning payments?

This is designed to live in whatsapp, as there are billions of people with no other access to the internet, this gives them bitcoin, nostr and AI agents that can provide them with free information and freedom money.

It will also run in any other chat app... by the end of the week we expect to have signal, whatsapp, web, nostr dms, bitchat and Qaul (offline wireless mesh).

Bitcoin for anybody that wants it, no more walled gardens.

Will this work via SMS on a Feature Phone? If so, that would be a game-changer for Africa, where not everyone has a smartphone yet.

As long as you can run on an sms bot on the same network this will work, there is no on device install or specialised hardware required.

This should work on a Lilygo over lorawan :)

If they stand behind they're E2E encryption, then they would only see a bunch of people sending mesages to these phone numbers.

We could hundreds / thousands of different people running brians/id servers though. No global.

Also it works in signal and other chat apps 😉

What an awesome demo

Makes me think about so many things:

- WA user base is massive, there’s the route to market

- so many businesses in Asia I’ve been to use WA, fascinating to see how they could use (eg a hotel in Bali)

- I’ve always wondered how you could exploit the walled gardens, so instead of rebuilding outside them, eg just on Nostr, how could you infiltrate them? This is one route

I think the real big win here will be the agent support.

They can also get access to any information on the internet, all snuggled in via text message.

And if you connect to a remote brain server then you can also bypass local authoritarian restrictions on internet filtering all with no vpn :)

Can something like this unlock "offline" lightning payments? Say this is integrated into a meshtastic network... you could do offline lightning payments intranetwork (assuming wallets are already funded). But if just one of the mesh nodes is also connected online, it could route those offline payments to/from the larger online network... no?

This is something ive been looking for with my young kids. They are old enough to syart using and understanding money but too young to be let loose on the internet and stuck glued to the screens.

We go out and I want them to have a physical wallet (device) they have to be responsible for. But im not paying a cell phone line for them to make occasional purchases when we go out. Nor do I want to deal with tethering each time either. It's also difficult to have a self custody setup for them with these constraints.

Sounds like offline local mesh networks with beacon fixes this!
