People started cutting corners just as soon as we stopped calling them applications.
This feels like a direct shot at someone on here who has launched some the most legendary apps, (Wikipedia, Instagram, Patreon) but abandoned them all in totally dysfunctional states.

We’re not touching the video as far as I know, but something else might be going on since I’ve seen a lot of this on all media hosting services including Primal..

ive been seeing this on most videos viewed in primal lately, as another data point
all videos are screwed because of conflicting standards and licensing of h264. the google and the apple, made sure that you can't just encode to a single format to be playable by all.
not sure the solution, other than, encoding for each and autodetecting / playing the one depending on the player like all youtub and media hosts do..
h264 is fine, h265 has licensing issues but for H/W, AV1 is fine too. I think it’s likely a bad H/W encoded video that can easily get corrupted (look bad due to missing key frames or some other crap)

Did you download the video from YT? I wonder if they started doing some sort of “optimizations” to discourage downloads

The video being bugged makes the point that much better. A seemingly-endless sea of bugs is indeed discouraging, maddening even, but it’s hopeful to think that once the app is done… it’s done.
As Visualize Value on X puts it: build once, sell twice — aka Build it well once so people can reuse it infinitely.
I don't understand, I've never seen software be done. Usually, it's the new hardware that forces the change, or a security flaw, but it's also just a never ending support cycle. But sure, sell that thing twice I guess 🤔 still won't be done unless it's a rugpull.
Sure but maintenance is different than building the foundations & new features.
Build the foundation once, like bitcoin’s consensus rules and base system for example…
ah ok.. ya im getting ptsd from people thinking they can just write something in a certain amount of time move on and it's 'done'. Satoshi is the only one I've ever seen pull that off.
It takes years to build timeless foundations… Satoshi is one of the only ones I’ve ever seen do it too.
Linus made git and moved on pretty fast too though, encouraging others to maintenance it afterwards.
He says he wants to improve 1% every day by 2025.

more important metrics are:
- does it work
- does it do what you want?
- is it maintained, if not, do not expect any future updates
