Infrared sauna vs traditional sauna - which is better? #asknostr
Discussion
dunno. lemme get my geiger counter.
It sounds like sun-bed vs sunshine. There’s only one winner.
I'm a traditional sauna maxi
Infrared saunas are shitcoins
Reject modernity, embrace tradition.

Finnish saunas and Japanese onsen/sento are elite in those areas, but the average person is better off with an IR dry sauna ; wet saunas at home or at the gym are hotbeds for mold. Couldn't catch me in one.

Wood only. Dry pine preferably.
If going wet sauna, this type of thinking is the way.
There is not much difference in a health benefit. Both achieve the heat shock protein activation, lowering inflamation and inrease endothelial function.
Traditional heat the air in the sauna and hence raise your temperature.
Infra red heat you directly with a less effect to the ambient temperature.
Infra red typically does not go as high as a tradtional sauna in heat.
Ive used both.
The infra red are good on a warm to hot climate.
A cold to cool climate the tradtional feel better imho.
It’s basically this type of heater vs water poured on hot stones… I’d prefer traditional, although I’m not really a fan of saunas. I prefer simply swimming in the sunshine…

Wood fired sauna 💯
water on hot stones all day ery’day
infrared saunas don't get as hot as traditional saunas, but they are very quick and simple. Apart from that, traditional saunas are much better. So, it depends on your needs. If you want to play it safe, have them both. You can have both (infrared and traditional) in the same sauna!
Qualify?
Old school baby! Make sure to add essential oils and kettle bells💪🏻

Each one got different use cases.
Traditional saunas (176-212F) are heated by a stove. The ambient temperature is high, and the dry air (10-20%) open the pores and helps to draw out toxins.
An Infrared sauna (~140F), on the other hand, uses infrared light waves that penetrate deeper into your skin’s tissues - resulting in FASTER heating and deeper relaxation.
Of these two, i prefer the traditional one with some essential oils. But my favorite wet/steam sauna (100-140F and 100%) with good herbs.
Dry saunas are better for detoxification and metabolism boost, while wet saunas are better for relaxation and improved cardiovascular functioning.
I have infrared and wish I had traditional instead. I still love mine, but I wish it got hotter and quicker.
Infrared for detox by a significant margin.
Ok, im going to the sauna now, this pump has me feelin toxic, gotta get that maximalism juice out.
Traditional.
The only reason infrared exist is because it's a shippable product that fits in a box. Versus traditional, which needs to be built and can't simply sit behind a buy button online.
Traditional. Just went to a Spa and it was a great experience 💜
I believe that there is far less evidence that ir saunas have the same health benefits as traditional saunas. I'm sure that they're still providing some heat shock protein synthesis, but not nearly as much. If you can't do both, go traditional.
I have a rocket heater sauna. Is that traditional? It rocks with essential oils & a joint.
Infrared saunas = gentle heat for recovery
Vs.
Traditional saunas= intense heat for relaxation and cardiovascular benefits
Go traditional!

Far-infrared is far superior to aid in deep detox. So much so that one should take binders with them to mitigate detox reactions from toxins liberating into bloodstream. Traditional saunas are nice too, but not near the same benefits. I like both, for different applications. Check out Relax Saunas.
Infrared is a shitcoin. The studies done for health benefits show the löyly - aka steam from throwing water on the rocks as a core component of how that happens. It’s not from fiat maxing cheap UV light. Core components to sauna are Heat, Steam, and Ventilation. Infrared isn’t a sauna at all - it’s a light box. Source: have text books on this :). @nvk would certainly agree with this.
steam sauna
I think the Finns who invented the sauna concept would go with the orginal. Since the skin is our largest organ half an hour in the sauna is a good way to get rid of toxins I believe.
