Why are you zapping such tiny amounts, friends
Do you want to build a revolution or what
Big moves, big vibes đ Tiny zaps wonât start a revolution, go all in, friends!
Youâre getting zapped?!
I'm saving bro, set up something exciting and earn it.
because I'm broke, I need to find a good job first then I will raise my zap amount
I've accumulated a stupid amount of sats just playing games on ZBD. And I don't actually even mean playing most of them. I mean letting them run while my phone is charging as I turned off screen timeout while charging.
I get it if you don't want to load your phone with ad laden shitty games...but it's literally been a couple hundred bucks over the last year. Heck almost worth it to buy a dedicated low end zbd phone.
I guess it's "stack sats" not "spend sats".
You're not building a revolution, you're paying off the debt of a "sovereign" entity with no obligation to yourself.
That's what the value of a "currency" reflects, the "national" debt.
Buy your own debt and pay your own bills; the price of Bitcoin goes up because these "sovereign" individuals NEED MORE MONEY TO STAY SOLVENT.
BITCOIN GOES UP BECAUSE IT IS FAILING. While this creates massive "paper profits" for the balance sheets of institutional holders who will want to borrow more money against it, perpetuating the hyperinflation cycle; you only need to sit out and wait. Watch and wait.
The more expensive Bitcoin gets, the longer you wait. Let the greed cannibalize itself.
Not my debt, not my problem.
Iâd guess itâs value for value based?
How much do you value your Sats vs how much do you value that note or other thing.
Seems like the Nostr influence types might be getting lured into price controls and trying to tell the market how they should value something. Just a coffee sipping thought on the topicâŠ.
My default is 21 sats .. That's a future tailored suit my man..đ
I mean, it's v4v. How much is a short note worth?
For music, podcasts, books, etc, sure, step it up.
But the old adage is 'penny for your thoughts' after all. That said, I did some digging as you got me curious.
The saying comes from 16th century England. There was wild debasement, so an exact inflation adjustment is damn near impossible, but for reference, it'd buy about a gallon of 16th century ale (not known for quality...), a large loaf of bread (which was higher quality) , 1 chicken, or 1-2 dozen eggs.
So, perhaps it's best to see this saying and adjust it to somewhere in the ballpark of 5000 sats given modern purchasing power.
That's not to say everyone's idle unsolicited thoughts are worth 5000 sats, but it does at least five us some context to a well known saying, and we as Bitcoiners should probably be ready to at least understand debasement.
Therein lies the flaw with value for value. What you may find great value in and zap accordingly, someone else may find less value so they zap less. That isnât the issue, itâs how people judge others who zap less, that creates a whole other dynamic that people donât need to be dragged into.
A real world example would be if youâre walking down the street and there is someone on the corner playing guitar and their case is open to accept tips. Now, the five people in front of you just tipped him $5 each. There are many reasons why they may have given that much, maybe they are just generous or they truly found value in the music. Now, here you come and you drop 50 cents in there. Does that mean you didnât find value in the music or that you just didnât have the 5 bucks to give or both? The problem is, from the outside looking in, you could be perceived as cheap because you didnât match what others gave when the reality is one of those other two options I just mentioned. And from the musicianâs POV, he is probably wondering the same thing.
For this reason, zaps should only be made on your profile page, with the sender remaining anonymous. Same real world example, imagine if that same guitarist had a box with a slit at the top, then nobody knows what anybody else gave so there is no pressure to feel obligated to match it and the receiver doesnât know either, so there is no judgement from him/her.
I mean, nothing stops you from just sending an anonymous lightning payment.
As for the high school drama, you can just ignore petty bullshit.
Thatâs not a solution, thatâs a compromise and the drama wouldnât exist if no one knew who was sending what or how much.
If this person who started this conversation didnât know who was sending what and how much, this whole thread never wouldâve started, itâs that simple.
Also, this isnât high school, though I am sure there are plenty of young people on here. This is not the same as it would be if we were all sitting around a table, people tend to get nasty when they know there are no consequences for their actions, so, eliminating the variables that lead to conversations like this seems like the smartest move rather than making compromises because you donât want to start up anything.
Not sure how you propose telling people they have to be anonymous with their tipping.
Especially in a predominantly antiauthoritarian cluster of society.
You donât have to ask them to do anything if you remove the ability altogether. I would like to think most people are zapping because they found value and donât feel the need to let the whole world know that they did.
Going back to my real world example, do you think people who drop money in the guitar case are broadcasting who they are?
Understanding psychology and trying to limit the variables that could lead to threads like this isnât authoritarianism, itâs common sense.
Take care.
A 21 sat salute 𫥠allows me to get all âĄïž zap happy all over Nostr
Every sat matters.
Those zaps are the free market. Acknowledge it and find solutions. â

Still remember my first zap on Nostr. Best feeling ever. đ
Not everyone can afford to fund your lifestyle.
Stay humble.
I'll let this one slide.
Because you add value, I appreciate the work you do for raising Bitcoin awareness and the value to bring to Nostr.
But complaining about low zap amounts is just going to discourage people from zapping.
Making people bad for being poor isn't going to make them act more generous.
âStay humbleâ
âIâll let this one slidrâ
lol donât be such a holier than thou dork.
Youâll let this one slide, who dafuq are you? đ€Šđ»ââïž MUTED, buh bye
Less than 10 sats is less than a penny. They're not even valuable enough to mint anymore. And they've often for years been free at most point of sale systems in the take-a-penny bin because people don't want them.
If he was insisting on a penny from 1500 (~$5 today) it'd be one thing. Single digit zaps are something of a head scratcher. They're technically worth more than a like, but it's a wonder the network is even willing to route them.
Donât get so triggered you side salads.
Iâm not begging. (You know about it when I do⊠coz I make videos about it lol)
Just set your default zap to more than bloody 9 sats and move on.
Or donât, but donât get all high and mighty about it.
No the irony is not lost on me.
In brief, take your wanky attitude elsewhereâđ»
Some like to weaponize zaps as well. Instead of sending a standard 21sats or whatever you client has for default to show you found value in it, I have had people zap me like 3 or 4 sats to try and show me the complete opposite.
To them, I usually just say,, you obviously need them more than I do. đ€Ł
Then there are the ones that zap you 1 sat, it literally cost more to send it, morons.đ€Šđ»ââïž
