It's pretty off-putting. There's one bot in particular that bothers people to set up a lightning address that I find particularly annoying. Like on one hand, yes, zaps are great, cool. On the other hand, Nostr is a lot to wrap your head around it and then to get hit with a bunch of bots saying, oh, you need to do this and that and this might be confusing to a new user.
I do welcome the new people on introductions, but I'm surely not a bot and I do interact with those new people if they respond back
A bot would say that 😏
Bots don't meme like I do 😁
XDdd Ai still still can't meme yet. It doesn't make sense XDdd But he tried

Hahahaha man this is gold!
Bots indeed suck at meming 🤣
They don't put any heart or truth into it
"is this place filled with bots?"
i am still fairly new. i didn't get auto-replied, i did get auto followed by 5 bots. it's not a good first impression however, i know there are real people out there.
Complete turn off. Thats the last thing i want to encounter when trying a new app are bots
They are annoying, for sure.
Some of them appear to be an attempt to be helpful to new users, without having to manually monitor for new accounts and type up or copy/paste a welcome message, but it's way too overwhelming, especially if they are new to both Nostr and Bitcoin.
They are trying to head-off the inevitable AskNostr questions that will be asked and answered over, and over, and over. But that's the thing. People need to progress to the point where those questions are important to them, rather than have them answered out-the-gate when they have no idea why they might want them answered yet.
Ew
Allahdeen.
In general, clients are dog shit at tutorials. I think that is the best use case if the note has client tags
I've seen new users follow the instructions from the Addy assistant one. It is more effective than some random person saying "Welcome. Get a wallet so we can zap you" then never replying again.
Overall, I don't think they're bad if they're done well & made clear that they are bots. I've seen plenty new users replying to welcome bots that mimic real profiles to closely, too, which is a negative experience.
Obviously, being welcomed by real people is better, but people tend to say hi and move on. The real dilemma comes with their second note.
Let bots do bot stuff so humans can focus on human stuff. As someone who used to welcome tf out of new users, guide them, and check in after a few days, it is tiresome for multiple reasons. One being, they often leave so it feels like an energetic black hole. But if I just get to say, "hey, what's up, that is cool that you're into
I also went through a period where I shared Derek's website, in lieu of hands on guiding. But most people likely don't wanna click on more buttons and read more. They already did a lot of work to get here, in their eyes, I imagine. So beyond the lightning bot, I say add a grow-your-network bot and serve it all up a silver platter, clearly labeled as a bot. Then let the humans do the human-ing with empathy and connection beyond that.
Yes! Exactly! I developed a habit of adopting 1 or 2 newbs at a time. Sometimes it works out, sometimes not. I can't imagine trying to help more than that in one round. It is a lot of work. I found it relieving to see people engaged with the Addy bot. No more: Mobile or web? Which phone? Hold on, let me see if I can find an iPhone person to help. Download this other app. 😂
I reply a copy paste note to each "introductions". If a new user's feed is empty and they have nobody reacting to them, this place can't look more dead than that.
