I gotcha. "fix online free speech, fix the world" is a bit overly hopeful, perhaps. Though I do think it's part of a multifaceted solution to a lot of modern societies ills (pretty sure you're not disagreeing)

True, it’s easy to get hyped. Yet, I think that all adds resiliency to this. We’re still a bit in the chaos of something new but the original idea gets stronger and stronger along the way.

I've been looking for the next best social network / messenger platform for all my life. I've switched between so many things I can't even count them anymore.
Maybe I just became too fed up with all of it and the spark got lost on the way. I'll just keep building on things I believe in, that never fails.
I guess the beauty is this platform seems to work and can handle being turned into almost anything. Maybe this is your last new platform.

Definitely can cut both ways. Cryptography unlocked Bitcoin, and now it is also unlocking a decentralized social media layer. Could be just as disrupting.
Nostr will be the economy of Bitcoin. It’s here where people will really develop the medium of exchange part, without which it doesn’t reach escape velocity.
I don’t think it’s engagement farming. Anyone who has studied bitcoin and read human action is going to be all over nostr and understand how massive the potential is.
Nostr is a new protocol layer on top of the others isn’t it? Why is it so incredibly stupid to compare the potential in this with for example HTTP?
It has the potential to turn the internet business models on their heads for sure. But putting it on the same level as computer and internet is probably excessive. There will be many more, absolutely overwhelming innovations coming out in the next decades. Enabled by mobile internet and bitcoin.
I think that’s mostly because the influencers started coming in here. Still seeing a lot of high signal from the builders.

Really bad take. I was deplatformed before nostr and it sucked ass being on Mastodon, or creating a dozen accounts that got banned by the twitter overlords every time I got to a few thousand followers.
My 12k follower account recently got nuked AGAIN by the twitter overlords and i dont feel anything because I have nostr.
Nostr enables me for the first time to own a social graph and content that noone can censor and take hostage.
Im chatting alongside plebs and chinese freedom fighters who are evading the CCP.

Just saying It ain't right cutting people off their social network. Really really sucks getting all your stuff and your connections wiped off the internet, having to start from scratch again only to be wiped again and again.
I really hope that nostr isn't just a fad, because censorship resistant social media is needed more than ever. Elon buying twitter isn't the answer.

I agree in a way. Overall, it’s too early to tell. I love the idea of Nostr and see how it could benefit, but that relies on continued use and adoption. Right now Nostr feels siloed within Bitcoin culture. However, the growth in use cases seems to be occurring rapidly. If that continues, I’m sure more will come and Nostr could grow into something formidable. Currently, the hype is driving the growth. But will it sustain over the longterm?
I think we cannot imagine what a decentralized data layer can enable in 10-20 years.
These little twitter apps we're building now is just the tip.

The hype is real (within the bitcoin community). Time will tell how widely utilized Nostr will be. But we have our space now and every sad fiat-loving soul who wanders into Nostr has a good chance to stay and become a bitcoiner.

This is beyond all messaging, social network features. Bringing the power of lightning ⚡ and Bitcoin into people's life is a game changer.
We rolled with Bitcoin as mostly store of value, now it is proving to the world that it is the best medium of exchange. #nostr shows how easy and powerful this is with its rapidly growing ecosystem.
This is a precursor to hyperbitcoinization. It is all about connecting the dots.
Granted rival is not Twitter yet. It is mastadon with ~4m user base.
