its officially been a month today since i started calorie tracking with the loseit app. Here’s the previous month vs current month for everyone who told me it wouldn’t work. The app predicted 2lbs per week on 1600cals per day (1200 under maintenance). Seems decently accurate!

also thanks jack for recommending me the withings scale, makes it super easy to track this as it automatically syncs to your phone.

This is with minimal exercise, just try to hit ~7500 steps a day. Definitely want to improve that

walking pad + standing desk

I miss my standing desk 🥲 i need an office

What walking pad do you use?

I just bought a random cheap one on Amazon

Are you fasting at all or just eating your regular meals but with better food and smaller portions?

This is switching from fasting, to eating when i’m hungry but with lower calories per meal, but more importantly actually knowing the real calorie count vs fasting all day and then guessing the calories for whatever the restaurant put in the food.

So yeah better food and smaller portions

My go to is 4 eggs in the morning, then i have a protein shake at lunch. For dinner I’ll stick to meat/seafood.

I try to hit ~150g of protein this way so i don’t lose too much muscle while cutting.

One thing i noticed is that every meal is much more enjoyable because i feel a bit like i did while i was fasting.

I can really feel the calorie deficit. Every meal is more strategic, trying to feel the most full and get the most nutrition to get me to the next meal.

There is basically no room for alchohol in this setup, so i had to cut that out to keep this up.

High protein/fat makes it way easier to keep the calorie deficit since you feel full longer. Cutting alcohol is crucial, it’s so empty

cheers to that

stearic acid, in particular, is very important because it is a precursor for a hormone that signals satiety. this is why the carnivore people talk about it so much. i have several times experienced after eating about 600g a day for a couple of days, that for a whole day i don't feel hungry.

this fatty acid also is found in cacao butter, so you can get some of this without eating meat, though there is loads of other good things in the beef that help in other ways. stearic acid is a commonly used pill coating material, it's a hard waxy substance that gives chocolate its rigidity and brittleness.

Eggs, meats/seafood, some fruit to quench the sweet cravings is all you need

How are your energy levels?

Very high. I have been insanely productive this month when I was in a rut last month

Great job!!

Calorie counting is just pure, awesome math!

Would you care about tracking your nutrients for a healthy lifestyle and healthy microbiom?

The app tracks macros, i’ve been mainly focused on protein intake but could probably start looking into quantities of things.

Or I could just eat raw liver and not worry about it 😆

I meant minerals, vitamins, omega fatty acids, and antioxidants.

I am most interested in seeing how these affect me. It’s hard to quantify without measuring my current levels and the seeing how a change improve things.

Exactly, you can only improve by measuring.

And you might even be sufficient now

Maybe one thing I learned during calorie counting that you might already know.

Food amount/volume matters for killing hunger, not calorie intake.

You can eat alot of calories in a small cake, and still stay hungry.

Another thing I learned since:

Ultraprocessed foods absorb faster, so you will likely hungry earlier than whole-foods that have a decent amount of fiber in it.

yeah the whole volume eating trend is interesting. I’ve been using pickles and things as a snack to get between meals.

Ice cream is also nice, kind of lower in calories compared to the amount.

TBH just don't snack, eat on a schedule, you'll get used to it after a few days

yeah I ran out of pickles

3500 calorie deficit = 1 lb weight loss, is what I was told. Was fairly accurate back when i tried something like this

What does that even mean. My daily maintenance calories are 2800 (the number of calories needed to maintain my current weight if i did no exercise).

-3500 over how long? I like to think in terms of calories under maintenance so i can at least track it accurately.

I think i see it now. If you want to lose 2lbs per week maybe you multiply 3500 * 2 and divide it over the week, thats about a 1000cal per day deficit?

Yeah that's the idea. Friend of mine who's pretty psycho with this stuff told me this. Held true for my personal study more or less

3500 under your basal metabolic. I guess it should hold over any span, but realistically something like a week. So if you had 3000 basal rate, ate only 2k a day, that'd be about 2lbs loss a week. Just a rule of thumb that seemed to hold for me

Does that app look quite accurate? What’s his name?

The ones I’ve tried have never finished convincing me.

These are readings from my scale, yes it is accurate

Sounds accurate, depending on your bmr. You need to be at least 3500 calories under bmr to lose one lb a week
