Asking the #nostr meat enthusiasts…

I like meat well done. Like really well done 😬

I was just told that it’s not good source of protein when cooked that way. Please tell me this isn’t so! 🤞

It becomes more carcinogenic the more you cook it

Correct. Fire changes and kills nutrients.

What about boiling the beef, eating the whole soup?

Raw fruit & veg still contain the sun's energy (biophotons), lost immediately on cooking...

Ask yourself.. do you only have sex to survive or do you enjoy different variations of it? No need to answer, just ask yourself. 🙂

I think any process or cooking messes with the nutritional value or anything.

Cooking meat makes it more digestible so it increases its nutritional value.

Probably depends what kind of meat and if it’s ground. I imagine tenderness and fat levels have a lot to do with that too.

I wouldn’t be so sure to say that you get more nutritional value from cooked meat though. Would need to see some studies.

This takes about energy not about nutrition. You’d have to factor in the “cooked out” nutrients with the gained digestion benefits.

Then you’d have to do a study for ground meat at various fat levels and I see none of that here.

macro = macronutrient, the most important of which is protein. This increases the digestibility of protein therefore making it more nutritious.

This study suggests nothing of that sort. They preface by saying “tends to be thin” .. ugh source? Lol isn’t that a good thing?

Again this is all about energy storage aka making you fatter which is probably not what people want out of their raw meat diets. “I need to cook this to store more energy” .. ok.

You’d need a larger variety of studies as I pointed out previously.

Human body is so Smart, and we need to know when it's time to make an adjustment. When no Carb for Energy the body use storage Fat to burn. 🌞⚡🌞

If you eat more nutritious food you will gain weight. Just because people don't understand that doesn't make it untrue.

Yes you’re absolutely right!

It probably doesn’t matter much how you cook meat in terms of nutrient uptake, but well done steak is gross. May as well buy minced or ground then.

I love medium for burgers and medium ->medium-well for steaks, juicy but not bloody!

The juices have a ton of nutrients, and the more you destroy the meat cells, the more overall nutrients you lose.

Like for vegetables, a light steam or seer is perfect, but if you cook the hell out of them, they arn’t near as nutritious..

Maybe try medium-well ones?

Medium rare as a maximum!

Me: leave mine on for a while!

My son: Mom, no.

Lol. I tried it the way he cooked it. I’ll have to work on this.

That looks good 👍

I’m with you!

I like almost everything well done!

Cooking meat to a well-done state doesn't significantly reduce its protein content. Although the proteins may denature, altering their secondary and tertiary structure, the primary structure of the amino acids remains intact. The change in structure may lead to a firmer texture, but the amino acids are not broken down or removed. Some vitamins, like B vitamins, may be lost in cooking meat to a well-done state, but the overall protein content is not substantially affected. However, it is worth noting that cooking meat at high temperatures for extended periods can lead to the formation of compounds like heterocyclic amines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which have been associated with cancer risks. Preferences for well-done meat are subjective, but this level of cooking can change the flavor and make the meat drier and tougher. Despite these factors, well-done meat remains a viable source of protein. The concerns associated with well-done meat more often pertain to potential health risks and the loss of other nutrients rather than a degradation of protein.
