Self custody as we know it is in the crosshairs in America

If the court precendent stands that self custodial software is not free from the Bank Secrecy Act then all self custody software will fail to meet the requirements...creating a defacto ban on running self custodial bitcoin software.

Wallets, nodes, miners cannot comply with the KYC bullshit. This is an inside job between anti bitcoin politicians and the woke DOJ weilding lawfare when they can't win public support or the ballet box.

We are sleep walking into this.

Meanwhile all these soy think boi corpo simps are shitcoining wall street iou's and wearing orange ties.

An 80 year old judge isn't going to give a shit or understand the nuances between the custodial arguements, the nature of shitposting on twitter or the long term implications.

Where have all the toxic Bitcoiner's gone?

huh, larping bitcoiners were never real bitcoiners and there aren't alot of the so called toxic bitcoiners.... left in the USA. bahaha.

Very serious concerns. We must be vigilant. This is where the cucks attempt to garrote sovereignty, and we will be landed back in the prison of banks; Satoshiโ€™s vision/gift to the world sterilized.

Which court precedent are you referring to?

The tornado cash case judge ruled that Fincen custody/self custody diatinction was not relevant to being a money service business.

The Samourai case feds argue that transfering data is custody or some convoluted nonsense like a knife maker is responsible for anything the knife does.

So basically they have the precedent to crack down on all self custody now if they want to?

Close

Lol cool. Come and take it (keys in brain)

I fear the same thing. I think Samurai devs are in for many years of legal fighting even if they eventually get out of it. and they will need our support.

And as btc users, we that are holding keys should be prepared for multi-year periods where self-custody is illegal. Don't cave, perservere, keep your stacks private, spend regardless of your gov't (it's what the protocol is all about!)

Yes. I think normie npubs don't have too much individually to be fearfulย of, however if devs go straight to jail for writing code then the ecosystem is in for a shock.

Bitcoin is Apex asset cuz it allows plebs and ultra poor access to most hardened money .. at practically zero txn fees and no entry barrier ..

KYC is a barrier.. we must fight any and everything that makes it harder for plebs to stack sats !

supreme court would hopefully shoot it down citing the 9th amendment

We shall see. I would prefer that our representatives stop being such fucking retards and pass a clear law. Why we always forced to deal with such hanky panky bullshit?

You know why... Look at the majority of the "leaders" and "representatives" with dual citizenship

they keep the grey area so they can justify going back on their word in the future when it begins to inconvenience them.

I'm too busy being a toxic Nostrich. I can't toxify two protocols, simultaneously.

Don't sell yourself short you're toxic enough

whatever they say -- the sooner they declare us all as illegal, the sooner their slavery system will end

Extremely troubling.

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธ right here

people need to make p2p no-kyc Bitcoin part of their daily existence and private cashu needs to hurry up and take over the world

Can you share more detail?

I thought there was a strong precedent in place that software is essentially speech and therefore protected under free speech rules

No doubt they want to nail Bitcoin, and will try anyway

But I donโ€™t see how if thatโ€™s true

I think itโ€™s related to the Samurai Wallet lawsuit here in the States

Repeal the bank secrecy act

Well, good luck for them trying to implement this. We cannot forget that some laws can be costly for the state to the point of being unviable.

Yay another nothingburger post with no references

Self custodying their Bitcoins ofc.

If you are correct, what are they gonna do, shut down every app, node, wallet, miner, and arrest all of us? I wish them well. They cant do shit and they know it.
